My initial review was great, however recent visits have caused me to make an update. This place is absolutely filthy. Is it that difficult for someone to deep clean the place one a week? Once a month? The table was sticky, the sauce bottles was disgusting, the window sills had very old food on them and we had to fight with gnats during our entire meal. This spot has been on my list for a while. Well we finally decided to try it out. First let me start by saying there was nothing wrong with the service. They were attentive and happy and alert. Their tap machine blew up and I couldn't order a beer that either I wanted to try or that was available by bottle. So I passed and got unsweetened tea, which here in Virginia, not so good. My wife ordered a mixed cocktail. It was sweet and fun. Then she ordered the app sampler which was actually a lot of food and all of it pretty good. Which left me hopeful. I ordered the two item combo. I got brisket and smoked wings with baked beans and baked potato as sides. The garlic bread was nice the beans were tasty with pieces of meat in it. Very nice touch. The potato was small. Wished it was what you expect from a bbq joint big sizes. The wings were nice and big but the flavor was just ok. The brisket should have been the star of the plate but I found it spongy and tasteless. The meat should taste good and the flavoring adds to but this time the flavoring was better than the meat and it made me sad. Not sure if I'll be back. Ambiance is very nice inside restaurant. You can grab a corner booth if you're being romantic or having a business meeting or got to bar and watch sports. Pretty waitresses not hooters bit cool. food. Liquor is present - tastes good not watered down. Service in the restaurant is MUCH better than ordering on door dash or grub hub. Ordering on door dash is hit or miss. I have had undercooked chicken twice. So never order online. read more

On a dark and stormy night I was looking for great bbq. I have always enjoyed Smokey Bones here since we don't have one where I live. Nat was my waiter. He was great and helped me order my sides. Most popular are the baked beans and slaw. I ordered the pulled pork which is always my favorite. Even the manager came by and asked me how everything was. So 2 years later. Last night February 15, 2024 and the Service was excellent, the food was really on point and manager checked in with us. Our waiter John was great. He got our food out In a timely manner and it was all hot and ready to eat. Drinks from the bar were also on point. Not sure if there has been changes in management but what ever the changes have made a big difference. Only one thing is the women's bathroom needed major attention but manager was informed. The family was getting together for 4th of July and needed some food last minute. This review is strictly for the take out food we ordered and had at home. Pulled pork: It was good. It was flavorful enough, a bit dry, but ok. Macaroni and cheese: Definitely cheesy. It was pretty good. Cornbread: It was huge and in the shape of an oversized muffin. It was pretty good, and wasn't too dry. It came with their house walnut butter which was just ok. Baked beans: Personally, I felt it was a bit too sweet and not enough bold. It followed suit to the rest of the food which was just ok. Their mashed potatoes and gravy was yummy. I like the texture of the potatoes and the gravy was seasoned well. They were nice enough to throw in some garlic bread free of charge to accompany our large order that ultimately added up to $160. As far as the food, it was just ok. read more

Perfect start for a night out drinking. But I'm only writing this review to rave about our waitress! So happy we took a table! Our waitress was Trinity. You could tell she was so tired from back to back shifts, and all these places are dealing with pandemic issues; short staffed, low or no stock, and grumpy people, but she pushed through and made our night! She was quick to stop at the table first thing and grab our drink order. We had barely sat down. And she came back with them almost just as fast. Our order was next and when it took a few minutes longer she was at our table letting us know and apologizing for the wait, which was nothing. She was polite, attentive, and had a super positive attitude even through all the bullshit these restaurants are facing. I placed my online order at 5:48pm with a 6:10pm pick up time; didn't get my order until 7:19pm only after following up, prompting the clerk to check, only to be told (again) 5 more minutes. I had asked for extra BBQ sauce and noticed I didn't get it and when I brought it up to her attention (female, blue sweater) she quickly said it was. I pulled all the donut sauces and baked potato condiments and advised her the extra BBQ sauce wasn't there. She seemed bothered but went and got it. A few things to point out. During my nearly hour wait after I paid for my order, a worker in a pink sweater with no mask used her sweater to go to the register and do something on it. At this time it was 6:42 and my order still wasn't ready, despite Door Dash orders having minimal to no wait. An entire family was seated, ate and left while I waited for my online order. The dine in Host (male, curly hair) seemed to be just playing with his pen, reorganizing menus over and over, texting or on his phone talking, while the take out clerk went in and out of the kitchen. Door dash ppl came and went (3 orders) and I'm still waiting on mine at 6:50. Host Clerk only asked women about orders while Men, we just stood there. One male customer asked for his money back after waiting a long time himself. I ended up asking the dine in host about my order, after he proactively attended 2 female customers with their orders. An Employee from the kitchen came out with his mask under nose, coughed and then headed back in. When I asked about my order, the take out clerk (female, blue sweater) was Visibly bothered and came back and said "5 more minutes"...again. When I got home, the donuts were hard, cold, as were the ribs order. The fries were stiff, and the 1/3 rack of ribs was mostly fat. I understand that things get busy, but this isn't the first occurrence. The staff seems uninterested in customer service unless it suits them somehow (ie male host taking care of female customers and ignoring males). The manager when he came out to refund a customers online order simply said they're backed up and he can't do anything about it. This leads me to believe that it's either a flawed online order system, bad staff or a bad manager...or a combination of all three. Nonetheless, the front end host staff was dismissive, rude, unapologetic and disinterested in customer service. This was by far the worst experience ever with Smokey Bones, and it seems to be getting worse. read more

Decided to stop and eat here on our way back home, and I was so geeked when I saw that sweet potato waffle fries could be a side option. I am a sucker for sweet potato fries. My, my my. This place is HORRIBLE! The only redeeming quality was our server Praise, she was great. Let's start with the drinks, they don't have Tito's! What establishment doesn't have such a popular brand of liquor. I ended up getting absolute and cran. That came out with a rotten line wedge in it. My friend ordered some kind of drink special that's supposed to change colors, well, it didn't. She asked the bartender and he swore that it was made correctly (remember this for later). Thursday 6 pm. Seated right away. We were promptly greeted by our server. Soo many beers and drinks! I get it. We got smoked wings as an app and they were fantastic. Seriously no one else is doing this. We got a full rack, brisket, and the mad nachos. The dry rub for the ribbs was overly salted but cooked ok. The brisket was nice and thick cut (i remembered a thinner cut). The nachos could feed four people well. The atmosphere says bar, the waitresses need a sweater lol. The music was so strange too. Thanks BFFs It was time for a heavy meal and I wanted meat. Now I know saying that will upset my new vegetarian friend but hey you're in Maine. I walked in and was blown away by how beautiful this place looks. Nice big bar in the center of the room. The wood furnishings complementing the surrounding stone brick area. And there was even a cool little fake fireplace to make the place look homey. I looked up homey for correct spelling. And I scored. I got two lovely servers Sam and Victoria. Sam was the lead and Victoria was in training. I couldn't pick an appetizer so Sam chose and she chose wisely. I received fried pickles. Read about them but never had them. I now regret what I missed. These things were addicting. Tangy, tart and let's face it anything fried is good even vegetables. I was going to get the Hawaiian Ribeye for old time sake but chose the crate a combo plate. Smoked wings, spicy sausage, onion rings. Sam chose the baby back ribs and baked beans to complete my meal. And she chose wisely again. Sam if you read this don't get a big head, gee. There was nothing on this plate to complain about. Everything tasted great and the service was fantastic. My partner and I were pretty hungry and wanted to try this place as we have passed by it many times since moving to the area. The service was really slow while the dinning room had maybe 10 tables with people, it was over 10 minutes after we were sat we finally got our waters! We ordered the mini nachos to get something in quick, they were really good, but mini really is mini lol. We ordered there Sunday menu, they had an online scan code for that menu. The server didn't know the prices of the items when asked, she had to go check. I ordered the 3 little pigs sandwich with baked beans and my partner ordered the pulled pork sundae. The server alerted us it would take over 20 minutes for our food, not sure why as it appeared they had a good amount of staff. We both agreed the meats were over cooked all around. Went here mid day on a Saturday. No wait at all, it was hardly any people in there. For appetizers: We got loaded fries they were $6 for happy hour, not bad but probably wouldn't get again. For drinks: We got the Blushing Strawberry Sangria 10/10, Sweet Bourbon Peach Tea 8/10 (the drink was good just wasn't cold) and the Triple Rum Punch 8/10 (was a little tangy) For food: We got the Grilled Cheese Brisket Sandwich and the Brisket Platter. Best cornbread with pecan butter fall 'out the chair!' For a chain this is a pretty good spot for some BBQ. Ribs are tender, beef brisket are also tender, and pull pork BBQ is also good. A little expensive for the quantity of food you get but oh well. The burgers are alright. Its pretty much a thick patty without much season. The wings are also good comes in different seasonings. I've tried the Memphis dry & buffalo and both were delish. A little salty tho. Came here because we were so bored and couldn't decide what else to get. Upon entering they have signs posted from the floor to the ceilings regarding social distancing. The booth for take out is straight ahead while the bench to wait to be seated is close by. As we were lead to our table we noticed every other table was available due to social distancing. Also they have paper menus which are EXTREMELY LIMITED I mean nothing that you really want is available so we decided to get the loaded cheese fries and drinks. I couldn't even get a loaded baked potato which is what I really wanted. The fries were $10 and not worth it. It was a small portion and the bacon was nonexistent. I've eaten at other Smokey Bones with good results. However, not only was the food not great but neither was the drink situation. 1. Ordered an Oktoberfest... keg blew half way, slightly less on a 22oz fill. Instead of either not charging and bringing me that or offering me another selection immediately, I waited approx 5 minutes before I was told that they were changing the keg.... which by the way never happened. Because I was sitting there and saw the half filled glass, I said just bring me that until the new keg is taped and we'll go from there. Actually charged me $7.00 for approx 10 ounces of beer, calling it a pint. 2. Ribs were definitely from yesterday... possibly the day before. They were tender because they were basically mush from being reheated at least once, maybe twice. 3. Steamed broccoli was basically boiled broccoli doused in garlic butter.... again totally mush. I realize we are going through some tough times however, still a paying customer and deserve to be treated as one with quality food and hospitality. Such a disappointment. read more
