the best chicken in town sign

This place is a Virginia Beach institution, apparently. I stopped in with my mom and we got chicken fingers dinners, collard greens, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, and they came with hush puppy puffs. Them puffs was bangin'! The chicken was delicious, as was the mashed potatoes. Don't get the mac & cheese. The pasta is overcooked and the cheese isn't real. Shame. The collards are okay, but when you've had mine, none measure up. Pollard's is more on the vinegar-y side and chopped really small. I prefer bigger pieces of collards and a bit on the sweet side. Service was excellent. They like if you call your order in ahead of time, because they stay busy. Lots of people take their food to go. The decor is nothing to write home about, but it's clean. They also have a pie case that put 5 pounds on me just by looking at it. Go. You'll enjoy it.

My #1 go to for NC Pork BBQ. Not much to look at on the outside, but ask yourself why the parking lot is away full with locals.

Its pretty quiet in there. They have a deal for $28 with 10 wings, 10 oysters or 10 shrimp with fries. They also sell cheesecake and cake at the front. They have several sauces to choose from. I got wings way sauce which is sweet n spicy. Theres also blue cheese and ranch for $.50 each. I wanted the shrimp because it was my safe zone, but i got the oysters for some reason. The ride home was unpleasant because it smelled rank. My stomach was doing flips. Those oysters didn't smell good at all. They may not have been old or anything. I forced myself to eat one and it tasted like it smelled... I threw them away.. I didn't wanna suffer later.. Smh. The wings and fries were good though. I did like the sauce. The fries are battered and tasty. Next time I'll stick to wings and shrimp. Their food is pretty good besides my oyster shenanigans!!! Lol. Check them out. 3.5 stars!!

You would never suspect the great atmosphere of this venue from the location. But the charm of the place really isn't the story. This is the kind of place that offers a gastro pub menu and they do not disappoint with a familiar yet unique menu offering some truly great dishes and perhaps the best burgers in VB. Definitely coming back.

Our first table ended up being under a spotlight that was directly in our line of sight (it looked like it was meant for the specials board), so we asked to move. Staff was accommodating and got us to a better table quickly. The space itself is really nice. It was clean, rustically decorated, and the live plants in liquor bottles on the tables are a nice touch. Our server was friendly from the start and took drink orders right away. My daughter and I had sodas, and my husband ordered the Southern Charm Old Fashioned off the specials menu, which he enjoyed. The menu is on the smaller side, which we actually like. One unique detail was the option to "buy a round for the kitchen," which we thought was a really nice touch and decided to add it when we ordered our appetizer. We started with the fried deviled eggs after a friend recommended them. They were creative with three styles (classic with pickle, togarashi ginger, and crispy prosciutto), but overall a bit on the dry side and not as flavorful as we expected. We asked for Dijon, but they don't have it. Our server suggested and brought out the Baja dipping sauce instead, which did pair well and kind of improved them. My husband had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it. He said the fish was flaky and well cooked. I ordered the Union grilled cheese, which unfortunately seemed like it had been sitting a bit before being served, as the bottom was soggy. It was just okay overall and not particularly memorable for the price. The sweet potato fries on the side were the clear standout. They were crispy, the perfect balance of sweet and salty and honestly the best part of the dish. Our daughter had the kid's smashburger. It was exactly that. Service throughout the meal was good. She was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and there when needed. The main disappointment came at the end. When our meals were served, the server actually offered sauces at the table (ketchup, mayo, ranch, etc.), and specifically suggested items like the baja sauce for the eggs and ranch to us. Because of that, we were surprised to see several charges for the sauces on the bill, especially since they were offered and recommended at the table with no mention of any additional cost. We were also charged a credit card fee, with no signage anywhere (entrance, hostess stand, or menu) indicating that paying with a card would include an extra charge. It just left an unnecessary sour note on an otherwise solid, casual meal. Nothing was bad, and nothing really stood out as exceptional, but the lack of transparency around those final charges really impacted the overall experience for us.

It's the kind of flavor that keeps you coming back... which explains why I've been here three days in a row And the Bao buns?? Easily one of my favorite things on the menu. The staff is super welcoming and actually takes the time to walk you through everything, which I always appreciate. The sides are solid across the board, but I had to try the Korean corn dog--and I'm saying it confidently: best one I've had in Hampton Roads. If you're looking for your next go-to spot, this is it. I've visited the Hilltop Bonchon a handful of times since it opened in November 2022 and the vibe…read moreis laid back, laid back to the point where, as a customer, you may find yourself checking your watch multiple times. One thing this location has going for it over the Norfolk Bonchon is that parking is readily available. When I originally pulled up, there was such ample parking that I felt like taking up 2 or 3 spots. You don't have to worry about parking at all - something I have to account for whenever I'd visit downtown Norfolk. Upon entering, their venue is roomy. The bar alone looks bigger than the entirety of the Norfolk Bonchon (not really, but Norfolk is small) and there are plenty of tables, seats and TVs. Based on the setup, this would be an ideal place to watch a game while eating some fantastic fried chicken. Service is maybe this Bonchon's biggest hurdle. The quality of service, based on my experience, has been hit and miss. Often times, the most you'll be doing is waiting as I've experienced employees who are new, don't move with any urgency, and/or simply don't listen. During one visit, our server was still in training when they decided to let her help us by herself. That resulted in us receiving incorrect orders, and something as simple as refills went unfulfilled for long periods of time. When her trainer took over, things went more smoothly, but the damage was done. To balance that out, I dined by myself one Sunday afternoon and there was only 1 server on the floor. That server was on top of things - he knew the menu, offered and explained the menu, and helped me throughout, even hooking up silent refills. That was an excellent experience, good enough to keep this Bonchon within my Hilltop rotation. Combined with 1 or 2 solid visits, this Bonchon is overall good to go. I will still stick with the notion that service is inconsistent, but at the same time I haven't seen a single employee twice (meaning turnover here is high). Final note - it's never been busy during any of my visits, so I don't know how well they're doing here. Mind you, I've never come in on a Friday or Saturday night but I fear that this Bonchon might not make it long term. Regardless, their chicken is excellent (albeit pricey). Thank you, Bonchon! We fell in love with the place before even getting the food. Which, we got way too much of because the portions are huge. We always try to sample a bit of everything so we had plenty to take home. We had the hot snow onion drumsticks, soy garlic tenders and red pepper gizzards. The gizzards were mostly for me as I enjoy the texture. My kid and wife are not fans lol. The spice level on the red pepper sauce was there but not overwhelming. But the chicken, oh my lord the chicken. The snow onion was an experience I've never had with chicken before. We've had Korean style fried chicken many many times but never like this. I'm not even sure how to describe the flavor. Savory with the sweetness of a good Vidalia onion and a hint of heat. Perfection. The drumsticks were super crispy and super juicy. The soy garlic tenders were also very good. Strong garlic flavor with the umami of the soy glaze. We were also recommended by the nice lady that they just started doing fried rice so we tried it as well. It also did not disappoint. Very flavorful but the kid ate most of it and they're picky. Seriously though I can't recommend this place enough. Please go support this awesome little family. If we're ever in the area again, we will for sure stop back in.

That is totally incorrect as our fully trained Dog was in your reception area no longer than 12 to 15 seconds before we were told we could not bring her in. And they were told she had to have a vest that said service dog. I've taken her to many other establishments here in Virginia Beach and no problems whatsoever. As for my experience, I'm retired but I have 45 plus years in the business. I've operated multiple outlets at one time. Also restaurants that have had over 400 seats. A major comparison to your tiny outlet. I've even operated a restaurant where we once did 418 covers in a sit-down full-service restaurant from 6:00 until 10:15. It is called knowing how to turn the tables. It is still a record to this date. So I definitely know that I have the experience to make a full and clear objective comment regarding your restaurant. As for the Ho chi Minh comment, maybe you folks should approach the Virginia Beach city council and tell them you need to close until they get the road condition improved. They should be willing to give you a government handout after all, I am sure you took one during the covid epidemic. By the way, I have over 10 years experience with the department of Defense/ United States Marine Corps operating their food and beverage outlets. And during the epidemic we remained open after 3 days because we set up a food to go program that serviced our military personnel. Just work on improving your little outlet. You may be getting better comments in the future.
