Whenever my bestie and I are looking for a good restaurant to have a nice dinner and meet to catch up over our busy schedules, we suddenly find ourselves craving the fantastic salads at Baker's Crust! We always choose the Greenbrier location in Chesapeake since there's ample parking available, and the service is very good. Tonight I tried a new salad, the Lemon Basil Harvest Blend, and I appreciated our server, Jackeline M for asking if I preferred the dressing on the side. Yes, please! I'm so glad she asked! This mixed greens salad has some star ingredients that caught my eye: charred artichokes, green olives, and grilled balsamic chicken. Yum. I'll be ordering this salad again. My bestie ordered her favorite bc combo with Tomato Soup and the Wine Country salad. She says that soup and salad combo never disappoints. She finished it! But, we always save room to share a trusty bc favorite dessert: the Wimbledon (strawberries with whipped cream crepes). Although it's no longer on the menu, the Greenbrier location always whips it up for us when we ask. It's an oldie, and a goodie! We enjoy the cozy atmosphere of Baker's Crust and find that our dinner catch ups over their delicious food and dessert are always long overdue. A friend and I had lunch for a business meeting and the ideas were good, but the meal was mid. Last time I was here I had plastic in my Alfredo then today the sandwich which is normally made with fluffy crusty bread was more like wonder bread panini. Stopped in around 7pm on a Thursday and was seated after about a five minute wait. The place was clean and had a comfortable, casual vibe. Service was excellent. Kara was my server and she struck that perfect balance of warm and friendly without feeling scripted or like she had just completed a corporate training video on "How To Smile At Guests." I ordered a blackberry margarita that isn't even on the menu, and she later came back with genuine curiosity about how it turned out. That kind of attentiveness is rare. The margarita itself was excellent too. Bright blackberry flavor and, thankfully, not drowned in simple syrup like some places seem contractually obligated to do. I ordered the fennel sausage and sweet onion pizza. Worth noting: pizza is half off on Thursdays from 4-9pm and all draft beers are $5, which is a very dangerous combination if you have even a moderate amount of self-control issues. Flavor-wise the pizza was good. The fennel sausage was nicely seasoned and worked well with the sweet onion. The one issue was the cheese. It did not appear to have formed any sort of meaningful attachment to the pizza. Each slice came with what can only be described as a full cheese blanket sliding off the top like a landslide. Not ideal. I'm not sure what the technical pizza science is behind making cheese actually stick, but whatever that step is... it may have been skipped here. Overall though, service was quick and friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the margarita alone was worth the stop. For entire I got the chicken & veggie bowl but substituted shrimp for chicken, it was a &3 up-charge but the size of the shrimp was decent so I couldn't complain. Went here Wednesday around 5 pm for Happy Hour and their Burgers and Bourbon night. It was busy at this time, but we didn't have a wait for a table. To drink, I ordered the Harvest Sangria (10/10) I loved the flavor and fizz. I did taste the Blackberry Bourbon and felt like it was overly strong and didn't have an actual blackberry flavor. To eat, I ordered a Maple Bacon Smash Burger (9/10) it was cooked well, fresh, and flavorful. Only thing missing was it not having a lot of sauce on it because it was a tad bit dry. On a frigid day the server first said the has no coffee of any kind, that they got it from somewhere else. Now what Breakfast, Brunch & Dinner spot doesn't have coffee? I was torn between the Pastrami Benedict and the Pastrami Hash, both was which were billed as being from Carnegie Deli in New York. I asked him if it really came from Carnegie and he confirmed. I settled on the Hash, which I now regret. The hash wasn't like a hash I had ever eaten. The pieces were large with a three egg covering, which I ordered medium but were actually well. The pieces of what must have been pastrami were crunchy. It appeared to have been a dish prepared hours earlier that has sat too long. The service was good except for the server having forgotten the coffee refill we had asked for. He had to be reminded. The decor was lovely. The granite table top where we were seated was the same pattern as one of my bathroom vanity choices. The booth was padded and quite comfortable. I was surprised to see in their bathroom the same fixtures I used in mine. It was a comfortable, happy feeling place which appeared to be popular with those who live in the area. The location is in an outer parcel of Greenbrier Market Center, a large shopping area on the southwest corner of Greenbrier & Volvo Parkways. My rating is 2.5 rounded up to 3. We enjoyed Bakers Crust for a quick casual meal. I was glad to see some gluten free options although I was they offered more gluten free breakfast food like chicken and waffles and pancakes. My boyfriend's chicken and waffles looked great. The chicken was a little tough, so tough he accidentally dropped his knife trying to cut it, but the waffle was soft with great taste. I will say the gluten free bread was soft, which isn't always the case for GF bread. The sandwich was simple but good. I also enjoyed the side salad. I have been to two other bakers Cross but this is my first time in Chesapeake. Large inside with elegant yet casual decor. We ordered their mimosas that we're on special. We went to brunch on a Saturday morning. We'd been there for dinner but never brunch. It was busy but there was no wait. Everything was okay. Not spectacular, just okay. The pancakes were not fluffy at all and a bit flat. Our blueberry pancakes had way too much blueberry on them. Which honestly may just be a preference. They don't serve specialty coffee like a cappuccino or latte, however you can get regular drip. The bartender was friendly and attentive. She offered some great suggestions on appetizers as well as entrees and she also gave me a rundown of the drink specials. Now, he did tell me it's not too sweet but I think that falls down to personal preference. It was sweet just not sickly sweet. It was delicious. I would have liked the filling to be on the thicker consistency but I'm not complaining because I loved it and with a side of bacon made this a perfect brunch meal. My friend ordered the sausage and gravy over a biscuit with over easy eggs. This meal was hardy and filling, a great proportion for any hungry individual. We went around 12PM, the restaurant was clean, quick service from seating to ordering. I have been to this location several times, it's a hit or miss when it comes to how packed it is or the service and food. I definitely would recommend Bakers Crust. I've had this location and the Ashburn location. I would not recommend going to the Chesapeake location during extremely busy time or if you have a really large party. It seemed as though our waiters were a little overwhelmed. As far as taste goes they're always good just this time our food was extremely cold. However I do give grace when you have a really large party during busy times. What's not to love? I've been going to Baker's Crust for years and have yet to have a bad experience. I mean, every once in a while, something might be a little off - slower than usual service, french toast on the dry side - but any restaurant has those days. Even the best of the best has the occasional off day. That said, this spot is pretty darn consistent with solid food and service. I'm partial to their artisan sandwiches with homemade chips (which made me a big BC fan in the first place) and brunch items. In particular, I'm currently obsessed with their chicken and waffles. The chicken is always fried perfectly and the waffle has the best mix of light and slightly crispy outside with a soft, fluffy inside. Few places make waffles as well as they do here. The other day we had their calamari for the first time. Definitely won't be the last because it was some of the best we've ever had. The only thing I wish they'd do with this location is to lighten it up a bit. My favorite location is the OG spot in Norfolk where it's so open and airy. This is a smaller location that sometimes feels closed in, especially when it's busy, despite all the windows. Hopefully, they'll do a little remodeling down the road. read more

We started with the tavern chips which were massive! I wish ours had a little more bacon spread throughout and more of the cheese layered in the bottom, but they were delicious and the ranch is sooo good! The pick two is a wonderful option for lunch and the portions are plentiful. I got the mortadella and buratta sandwich with a Greek salad, This sandwich will be my go to each time.
