Broccoli under cooked, loaded baked potato not loaded, iced tea warm, ribs very good! Had a $10 off coupon, had to ask server twice to take it off our bill. Yes it is a newer restaurant for Rockford, but to charge $15 for a salad with no meat! Only really 2 choices of bbq sauce on the table...mopping sauce way to much vinegar. This restaurant can not handle a group of 14. They take no reservations. The girl behind the counter said it would be a 45 minute wait. It was over an hour. Then when we were finally seated and ordered our food. It took the food 90 minutes to arrive and it was cold. When asked about when the food would arrive I was told the restaurant was busy and the waitress did not know. If you venture to eat here make sure you have 3 to 4 hours to spare. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else. Went there for lunch at noon on a Monday in a group of 3. Place was not too busy, but we stood at the hostess station for a good 3 minutes before being seated. Had to grab our own silverware. We along with at least 3 other tables asked about the temperature because it was freezing- like so cold that people were leaving. After being told they couldn't do anything about it, about 20 minutes later when the manager came over to talk to my friend about the feathers he found in his smoked wings he did tell us that they adjusted the temperature. Manager never actually apologized, just asked if he wanted more feathers (wings) and told him "obviously we'll take care of the wings." The pulled pork was cold, the 1/2 chicken was dry, the fries and broccoli were the best things I had. The server was very nice. This place won't last. read more

It took over an hour for my husband, myself, and one of my daughters to receive food. My other daughter's food somehow went missing, and it was almost an hour until she got her food. I ordered the brisket, which was extremely dry, along with mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. He was disappointed saying the pulled pork was dry, the slaw was not a slaw and his baked potato had to be sent back it had sour cream he asked to to omit. I ordered the stacked potato and salad. I loved the salad, but again the pulled pork was very dry I took it off my potato. The waitress was not attentive. I liked the resturant decor. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming. Decided on Smokey bones tonight as my boyfriend and I had had a good meal at the mount Prospect location. This however was quite the opposite experience at the Rockford location. Upon arriving we were told there was a 25 minute wait for a party of two. We were both hungry and were discussing other possible options. The hostess overheard us and told us the wait would actually only be 15 minutes. After being seated everything went well until I opened up my napkin to take out my silverware. My fork was disgusting, food and sauce were still on it. After waiting quite a while for our food to arrive (chicken tacos and a pulled pork sandwich) we quickly noticed both our meals were cold to the touch. Not warm and definitely not hot. We let our server know and he offered to take it back. My boyfriend decided to keep his pulled pork. We waited an unacceptable amount of time for the tacos to be remade. During that time my boyfriend had eaten his entire meal. Within this time the manager had stopped at our table how our meals were. We brought to her attention the food was cold and and silverware was filthy, which she said were unacceptable. She offered us a bag of donuts on the house. This was surprising, as she didn't offer to instead take the tacos off the bill, which still hadn't made it to the table while my boyfriend had finished eating. When my tacos arrived for the second time they still weren't hot. But the manager came back and made a remark that "those tacos must have been better this time". Truthfully, they still weren't hot! After I had finished eating, the manager came back to our table and said here are your donuts. I said to her "I think it would have been more appropriate to offer to take off the tacos from the bill, since my boyfriend had already finished his meal before I even got mine. If I've ever had a problem at a restaurant, the server always offers to take it off the check." The manager responded with "I'm taking my donuts back then." I think she intended to be humorous, but that was definitely not the appropriate time for that since she should be focusing on customer service. She then seemed upset that I asked for it to be taken off, but said she would. The server came to the table while that discussion was happening and it apparently made him not want to come back to our table. We waited even longer to pay for our bill since we were paying in cash. The server was good, but failed to close out our table when we were waiting for a long time for him to take our cash. Unfortunately for him, I took away the larger tip I was planning on giving him because he failed to come back to the table and take our bill, so I just left the cash for the bill on the table and he got a very small tip as a result. In addition to all of that, the restaurant was absolutely freezing in there! We were both shaking the entire time, and even looking around the restaurant there were other customers with their arms crossed and cold! This was my third time coming to the restaurant since they opened in Rockford recently. Each time the service has been terrible by far, but tonight topped it all. I was very disappoint with this restaurant for many reasons. The 1st was it took 20 mins to finally be greeted by our server. She was a lovely and sweet girl but the service was bad. After she took our drink orders we didn't see her for another 25 mins and she didn't even come back with drinks. Having 2 small children with us and waiting that long for drinks is unacceptable. After she brought my daughters root beer float she didn't leave a straw. Try drinking a root beer float without a straw and getting a big scoop of ice cream hit your face. We waited over 5 mins before I was able to stop a different server and ask for a straw. We had 4 drinks and they all came out one at a time and my husbands drink was wrong. When we finally placed our food order we had already been there an hour. We waited another hour before we finally got our food. And our food came out separate. My daughter got hers then 10 mins later my husband and I got ours. It wasn't until another 15 mins later my 3yr old son got his. Try explaining to a 3 yr old why he hasn't got his food yet. And we tried giving him some of our food, but like most 3 yr olds they are picky eaters. Only thing he eats is hot dogs and chicken fingers plus he is lactose intolerant. I was not impressed with the food and the prices are a bit high. If the food was amazing then I could see the prices being high. I ordered my burger medium and it came out medium rare. With the horrible experience we were already having with getting our food at a decent time and the lack of seeing our server, I didn't want to chance it asking for a new burger. I do not recommend the krispy cookies. Giving it was the first week smokey bones was open I knew it was going to be crowded and longer waits but I didn't expect to be there over three hours. We went there on a Sunday night around 5 pm for my son's birthday. It wasn't very crowded and were seated right away. My son and I got the bone fire for 2. We were told that they were out of smoked chicken wings and let us substitute a meat of choice so we substituted brisket. Most of the meat was EXTREMELY overcooked. Im not sure who taught Smokey bones how to bbq but this ain't it sis. We started our meal with the fried pickles, they were really good. We had a kids Mac n cheese, which was good. It was very rich and cheesy. I had the bbq chicken sandwich, which had no flavor, I cannot have cheese or bacon so maybe all the flavor comes from them, but I had them removed, who knows. They need to learn how to Season their food. We had the grilled salmon salad, which was on the smaller side but was still good. We had the Belgian waffle sundae to finish... what a waste of money, the waffle had no flavor and they gave us a melon ball size scoop of ice cream. The service was absolutely slow, which was funny because they were not busy. The portions did not match the prices. When my husband went to the bathroom he saw a staff member take out a towel from his uniform, use it to rest on the urinal, wipe off a picture. Been here twice and both times I was very disappointed in the food. The flavor is terrible and not what I would expect from a place with this name. They need to fire the chef because he doesn't know how to flavor his food, very bland!! And the salsa, omg the salsa, terrible, it taste like it's tomatoes from a can. I had the brisket tacos the first time and they weren't any good. They need to take lessons from Famous Dave's on the brisket. Second time got the chicken nachos, yuck, didn't even eat them all. My wife and I went out to eat there tonight and it was the worst experience we have had in a long time. We ordered the platter for two and it was more like an appetizer for two. There was very little meat, no sides to speak of, the meat was dry and way to salty. Our waitress was not attentive to our needs and we only saw her once after we got our meal and it was as she was walking by toward the end of our meal, she didn't stop and give us time to let her know about our meal. When we were able to talk to her she got the manager who came to the table, leaned over the table, did not introduce himself, or say one word for that matter. We spoke first, realizing he wasn't going to say anything, and when we began to tell him about our experience he asked why we didn't send it back, we told him we didn't even see our waitress to make that an option, he said he would talk to her and walked away not even offering one word of apology. read more

Ate dinner here with my parents on Memorial Day and had an interesting experience that was overall very good with some odd happenings. First off I have to say that our server Justin was amazing. One of the other servers didn't show up for their shift so he was clearly over booked with tables but he did an amazing job staying on top of everything. I had the 1/3 rack of ribs and smoked sausage combo with steamed broccoli and baked potato and it was all incredibly tasty. Now to the odd stuff. First they had run out of clean silverware at one point so we got our food before we got our silverware making eating difficult but Justin was on top of that as soon as he realized and went back and rolled the silverware himself. Near the end of our dining experience we find out that they are now also running low on clean plates. I'm not sure exactly what was going on and all of that could potentially be blamed on the fact it was Memorial Day so they were busier than normal. But I have never known a restaurant to run out of silverware and plates before. Aside from those things I had a great time here at Smokey Bones, this would easily be a 5 star rating otherwise. read more

Went there on a Saturday with girlfriend , first off the hostess tried seating is at a table we said we want a booth, now kind you there were plenty open , so she proceeds to sit us at a booth not against the wall so it was and open table type booth and it was with attitude !! The ribs were very good I good the rib feast , comes with two sides and corn bread , I got the fries and corn , corn is ok with like jalapeños in it , so it took forever to get the food and it wasn't that busy , then took forever to get the check ! Even called the server with the little video screen thing at the table it flashed red for fifteen minutes , never came by ! Other serves were looking at it . So we paid on the the screen thing at table and left, but not before calling the manager over , he just said they are understaffed and what not didn't really care about the bad service we told him about . First we were missing a salad which came with one of the meals. The loaded baked potato was dried out and looked to be a day old. Horrible, horrible. Was suppose to have bbq brisket on the potato, the meat was not brisket! The pop was carbonated water only. I ordered a chicken sandwich which lacked the bbq sauce as described and was something I can't even begin to describe! I bit into it and the chicken was so rubbery i couldn't chew it. I sawed through it and the chicken was grey, green and yellow. So rotten! How could they even think it was ok to serve food of this quality???? So me and my parents went here after a busy and stressful day, and we sat there for over 20 minutes waiting for for our waitress and no one showed up. So we left and when we were leaving we told the hostesses and all they said were "oh okay" very monotoned and they shrugged. It was not even busy. The place wasn't the busy but we are bar people so we can sat at the bar and it took one of the 3 bar tenders 15-20 min to acknowledge us and half and hour to get food and drinks ordered. Then we waited over an hour for our food, The was subpar. My husbands food was not only wrong, but also cold, plus the baked potato tasted like peanut oil. We talked with the manager who said he would take care of that meal for us only to take $5 off after we waited another 20 minutes for our "corrected" bill.
