Pulled up to an interesting-looking restaurant, actually drove past it at first. We were greeted by a few very friendly people who told us to sit wherever we liked. I ordered a water to start, but they were out of lemons. A bit disappointing, especially at 10 o'clock, since I always get water with lemon. I usually don't eat much for breakfast, so I decided to just get two hotcakes with a Conecuh sausage link. The food came out relatively fast. The pancakes were delightful. They were light, fluffy, and tasted similar to Cracker Barrel's hotcakes. The Conecuh sausage link was a great pairing. The owner came over to the table multiple times to chat with us, which was a nice touch. Overall: interesting exterior, decent interior, very friendly people, good food, and good vibes. Smokey Hollow is a classic small-town Southern diner although it looks like an old hole-in-the-wall sitting next to the highway at Exit 119 on I-65. The decor is an antique car motif with salad bar in the middle of the restaurant with tables and booths for seating. We came in at 9:30am on a Saturday morning for coffee and breakfast- and tables and counters were clean and tidy. Smokey Hollow is known locally for their food and for their loaded hamburgers. One of the cooks is gluten free, so they are familiar with the requirements to maintain and I felt taken care of with an order of a 5 oz steak, 2 eggs, grits, and an obligatory "hold the biscuit" for $7.99. The steak was cooked perfectly. My husband's pancakes were thick and fluffy! The salad bar is good size - and everything you need. It's not extensive but adequate and fresh. Since my first visit, I have started ordering a one-visit salad bar and it's perfect! Two stars taken for an older restaurant in need of a few repairs (cracked floor tile, etc.). This restaurant was right off the interstate, so the location was great for a late afternoon meal. The decor was a 50s style diner, but the building was not in the best shape. It took awhile for anyone to get our drinks, and even longer to take our orders. We were traveling, so the wait time was rather disheartening. The food was convenient-I think everything was popped into a microwave. They had a salad bar, but there wasn't a lot on it. However, the salad was fresh and the ranch dressing tasted nice. I give this place two stars, mainly for the server. She was working hard and did a great job getting condiments and giving refills. She was impressive! I probably would not choose to eat here again-time off the road when heading towards your destination is precious-and it took too much time, with absolutely no payback for the delay. read more

This is a five star review relative to the type of restaurant that it is. Smokey Hollow is a small town, old style diner. Nothing fancy, and southern food that is tasty, fried or gravy-covered. I stop by today, traveling through and passing my hometown. I was in the mood for a nostalgic lunch. I used to come here when I was a teenager. Not much has changed. Seat yourself. I got my old usual....hamburger steak with gravy and onions, side of fries, and a sweet tea. Everything tastes the same. Wasn't disappointed. This is a "meat and three" type restaurant. If you want some southern cookin, give it a try. Nothing fancy, but a great little hole-in-the-wall for some local cuisine. read more

This restaurant has potential, but needs a lot of improvement. For me, First impressions are hard to overcome. Upon entering we noticed several empty tables with dirty dishes still piled up. Once we were seated and our order was placed, the appetizer of fried pickles came out without all needed items with it. It was to be served with ranch. We asked more than once, but never received it. Our meals were served of fried catfish and chicken quesadillas. The quesadilla had hairs in it. They brought my son another meal. I will say my catfish, what I ate of it before the hair incident, was good. When the check came, there was no discount for the meal. I would at least would have expected that meal to be free. Overall. I was not pleased with the way the whole situation was handled and we will not be returning due to the overall lack of hygiene. I did not include pictures out of respect. read more

We were traveling and wanted a homemade meal. This was not the place to stop. This was possible the worst meal I have ever tried to eat!!! I got the grilled fish and it was right out of the freezer and was raw and my baked potato was cold and hard the butter would not even melt. Went there for lunch with my family a few months ago. The place only had a few customers at one table and the other tables were dirty. Two waitresses were standing around and looked at us like we were foreigners. We waited a few minutes and still no waitress so we left. I had not been here in many years but I saw the sign that said now nonsmoking so I decided to try it with a friend recently. I have been back several times since. The decor is dated and dingy but the food is good. I have only been for lunch and the salad bar is always fresh and well stocked. My husband got the stuffed burger and really liked it. I had a meal there the other day, the ribs were great, however the tables were nasty, the waitress forgot my silverware , along with the table beside me. the califlower was soggy and the french fries were microwaved. the fried pickles were ok, but soaking in grease.
