We booked Smokey Mountain catering for our wedding in November 13'. After a few email exchanges with Jennifer she offered to have us for a tasting. Keep in mind we did not book anyone yet. We tasted the Tri-tip, BBQ 1/4 Chicken, Santa Fe Ribs, and Pulled Pork. We also had the Caesar salad and Steamed Asparagus. The tasting locked in Smokey Mountain as our caterer for our outdoor wedding! The tasting was full of delicious barbecue that wasn't fulfilled by overloading any of the dishes with sauce, all the meat was genuinely juicy and presented tastefully. We also had Jennifer and Smokey mountain do our water service, champagne pour, cake cutting, and bar service. All of her staff arrived on time and ready to go. They had simple yet beautiful place settings and had everything set up at the exact time they said they would. The bartenders were great! Nice, friendly, and followed any requests I had for how we wanted our bar to be ran for the event. We received numerous compliments from our guests about how good our food was. The food was served buffet style by servers in chaffing dishes that kept everything nice and warm. They cooked all the meat on site on a giant trailer sized barbecue right in the backyard! I can't wait to finish the leftovers that they gave us! They also took care of the cleanup from the dinner and were entirely self sufficient. I would love to hire them again. read more

We got married back in 2017 and had Smokey mountain cater. Jennifer was fantastic! She helped us out after we felt pressured into a contract with another caterer. Jennifer met us for a free tasting and even let us take home the left overs. The price and food were great! All our guests raved about how good it was and the fact they got seconds at a wedding. We even had a good amount of the food to take home. Thank you Smokey mountain for turning our bad experience with another catering company into a great one we are happy about. Jennifer is wonderful and the food is delicious!! I am very happy the the venue recommended her as I could not have been happier! She let us do a tasting when we had just started looking at caterers, which usually you have to book the caterer for the wedding beforehand. She was always very responsive and we heard lots of compliments from our guests!! I really appreciated that my husband and I had food right when we sat down so that we got to eat before mingling with guests. Also, the smell of the onsite bbq was amazing!!! read more

There is a lot that is influencing this review. I've waited for a while before posting it so I can stick to the facts and not emotions. Prior to tasting: Kind of hard to get a hold of. Not super responsive to emails and had to send multiple requests for information and tasting. Tasting: I was happy that they did not charge for the tasting and she was fine with including my father since he was contributing to the cost of services. The food was good and she said the actual servings at the wedding would be larger. We ended up ordering chicken and tri tip (although I asked for brisket, she put tri tip on the invoice and that's what we got), the green beans, red potatoes, salad, and rolls. We had also requested 70 orders of pulled pork sandwiches (2 per order). Prior to wedding: Jen offered to pick up our wedding cakes from Sams Club if we ordered them. She also offered to order our rentals for us so we could get a discount. We were super appreciative because it was gonna save us money and time so we thought "Awesome!" I asked her to use a specific rental company that was charging significantly less that any others and because the rental company that she recommended had been extremely rude to me when I tried to go to them on my own. A few days before the wedding she came out and we discussed where everything would be set up and we made some changes to our rental order. She let me know she would not personally be at the wedding as it was the last one of the season and she was letting her assistant take over. I let her know there were 2 cakes they needed to pick up, she said no problem. We adjusted our order to include 93 meals total with the appetizers. Wedding: The day before the wedding the rentals showed up from the company I explicitly told her I DID NOT want her renting from. At that point I felt like there was absolutely nothing I could do as it was less than 24 hours to the wedding. On my wedding day I was super busy, I didn't even speak to the caterers when they got to the house. After the ceremony and photos, I came back to the reception area and noticed our cakes weren't there. My maid of honor went to talk to the caterer that was there (Jen was originally not supposed to be there, her assistant was) and was told they were on the way and would be there in an hour. My husband and I were pulled in a lot of directions and were not offered any appetizers. After the wedding my maid of honor came to me and told me that the caterer had brought rotten pulled pork and had decided not to serve the pulled pork sliders. She said they had told her they would serve some meatballs, but I didn't see any appetizers served to any of our guests (most definitely not enough for 70 people as only 60 people came to the wedding). Dinner was served and everything tasted fine, I felt like the meats were given in smaller quantities than was promised but that wasn't a huge deal. I was told halfway through eating dinner that they had run out of plates and silverware. My grandparents who were hosting the wedding provided more paper plates for them. I was called aside by my maid of honor who had been going back and forth with the caterer about the cakes and told that they only had my sheet cake, but not my tiered cake. I went inside to find Jen in the kitchen with several containers with cupcakes in them. She let me know they had lost, yes LOST, my 3 tiered wedding cake that they had put into their freezer to prevent it from melting. She had gotten the cupcakes as a poor replacement. To say I was upset is an understatement. The night went on and once the wedding was over we went inside for the leftovers and found about 12 chicken breasts and 1 piece of tri tip. Again there were 30 LESS people than what we ordered food for. We didn't get anywhere close to the amount of leftovers we should have. After Wedding: Cleaning up the next day we found that they had not put down any tarps beneath the barbecue they used and there were grease stains all over their patio and we had to pay for a pressure washing company to come and clean up the mess they left. I strongly feel like we are owed a refund for this debacle. I knew some things were not going to be perfect and if it were one or two things I could even understand and let it go, but the amount of mistakes they made and the amount of balls dropped is absolutely crazy. The food is good, the price is ok, Jen is super sweet, but the execution was entirely sub par. I feel like I was overcharged for the rentals, because I know for a fact that the rental company they used was more expensive than the one I requested, They did not provide appetizers that we paid for, but did not refund us for them, they charged us for the amount of both cakes and we still have not seen the refund for that either. read more

Many have been at upscale venues and country clubs, Jennifer catered our daughter's wedding and did an incredible job! She handled every detail from booking to closing up after the reception. I really like to spend time shopping around for things, and I chose Smokey Mountain because they were reasonably priced, very nice on the phone, and had good food selections. They caterered my wedding, and it ended up being delicious! The chef and servers were so nice. Prior to booking: We chose Smokey Mountain Catering for our wedding. They were recommended to us by our wedding coordinator so we thought we'd give them a try, and we're very happy we did! After a few emails back and forth, Jennifer invited us for a free tasting prior to booking. My fiancé, my mom, and I chose a couple options for salad, meat, and sides from their barbecue menu. Not only were the three of us able to try different options of the delicious food for free, but Jennifer also offered us lots of advice for the event from wine choices to how to cut costs in between serving us the food. After booking, before the wedding: This is the area where the four stars, rather than five come in. We booked Smokey Mountain about 10 months prior to our event. Whenever my fiancé or I tried to email/call with questions, it was often difficult to receive a response. It often took days to weeks to hear a response. Not a big deal being that we booked so far in advance, but at times a little frustrating during the planning process. (This was also something that our wedding coordinator had warned us about). However, when we did get a response, Jennifer was always very apologetic for the wait and very helpful in answering all of our questions! She was very flexible and always had options for questions we had. Day of the wedding: Everything went perfectly! Set up and take down flowed smoothly. The food was hot and delicious! They bring all their own equipment and cook it right on site! We had the caesar salad, grilled chicken, tri-tip, bbq baked beans, mashed potatoes, and mac n cheese. My least favorite was probably the mac n cheese. It was different from the mac n cheese they served us at the tasting, and was not as good. Overall though, it was a great meal and all the servers were very friendly/helpful to us and our guests! I would definitely recommend Smokey Mountain Catering! read more

Smokey Mountain catered our wedding this past Saturday for around 165 guests. They were recommended by our venue coordinator and we are very happy that we chose to go with them as our caterer. Jennifer has been extremely wonderful throughout our wedding planning. Communication was great since I like to email and ask questions often. Any questions I had, I would get a fast response. Jennifer has been kind and professional throughout the entire process. We did a tasting with another group and was able to try out food that we had requested and also what was requested by the other party. We ended up choosing for our wedding: the southern style pulled pork, grilled chicken breast, roasted corn and green pepper salad, italian pasta salad, roasted red potatoes, and gourmet mac n cheese. We hired Jen and her team to cater our wedding and they did a great job! She was very patient as we asked a ton of questions during the planning process and even made some changes close to our wedding date. Jen also accommodated our last minute requests and headcount changes without any complaints. We opted for the tri-tip and salmon and both were delicious (the tri-tip was grilled on-site as we did an outdoor wedding). We also ordered cupcakes and ice cream sandwiches for dessert, both of which were delicious. However, if you want to have any kind of special display for dessert or want it presented in a certain way, like on nice platters, make sure you bring it yourself otherwise. Also, make sure to check if they bring additional signage to your event as they did at mine - it was a lovely nice gesture but did not go with the overall decor of the wedding that I planned and looked out of place. This company has been owned by Todd and Jennifer for over 20 years and every event they cater for me has proven why they are still going strong and running such a successful company.
