This food is better than any BBQ place within 800 miles and as good as any BBQ that I have ever eaten anywhere. I have lived in the South and this stuff is just as good. We were so excited to try this place. A cool environment, but the food was subpar. The brisket was not very tender, and lacked flavor. The BBQ sauce was good, though. The Mac n cheese was cold (along with brisket) and the waitress promptly replaced it. While the brisket was warm, the Mac n cheese was still cold. The baked beans were flavorful. A friend recommended this restaurant to me. I didn't expect much because Utah is not known for its barbecue but I was pleasantly surprised. Had a chance to eat lunch here while on a business trip. I travel all over the western US and try to grab some bbq wherever I go. I smoke meats at home and would consider myself a bbq junkie. Easily some of the best brisket I've had in my travels. Moist with a solid rub which was not too salty. A- The turkey was also very juicy with excellent flavor. A The ribs were a bit overcooked in my opinion and as a cook who uses lots of different flavors on my ribs I found them a bit bland, but this is a matter of personal taste and you may find them just right. B- Family owned and run, the people here are very friendly and I had personal conversations with 4 of them and was given a tour of their smokers. Ambience and staff - A+ I don't write reviews often, but I enjoyed the food and the friendly proprietors and will return on my next trip to Salt Lake City. Smokin Bones BBQ was a fantastic choice for lunch. The joint was packed the entire time we were in there. The BBQ was so delicious. I had the double steak burger and was unable to eat the full meal which included two sides. It was conveniently served in a to-go box which was very handy to pack my leftovers. They have an awesome longhorn bull oven where they cook their pizzas. (Kids would love it) The staff was very friendly and greeted everyone that came in. Very personal touch in the food prep and delivery, you can tell that they love to BBQ and the quality of the food they serve is a true testament on their commitment to taste. So Ive been into this place over 8 times in the last 2 months and the double Burger, Ribs, are amazing. Everything is good but my favorite is his smoked food is amazing. The burger has shredded pork on top of the burger pattty, If you want the ribs be sure to pre-order the day before and make sure your name is on one since it usually runs out daily since he makes it fresh. read more

This place is pretty good. Both my husband and I ordered the two meat plate and the servings are very generous. I loved the barbeque beans and the pulled pork, brisket, and cornbread were good. One thing that was kind of weird was the lady who took our order at the counter asked us if we wanted to purchase any Canadian candy bars for dessert. I am not sure where the Canadian candy bars fit in at a BBQ joint. Another odd thing was the barefoot children hanging around behind the counter and around the restaurant. I assume they were the children of one of the employees there? Ultimately the food was good and I was happy to support a local company. I would try it again. read more

I was looking at quite a few different things on the menu, but was intrigued by the Navajo Taco. I hadn't seen anyone in the restaurant with it, nor did I see anyone in line in front of me get it. IT IS MASSIVE! It takes up almost the entire to-go container, but the taste is great. It is definitely a two meal order because of how dense it is; the baked beans, the smoked brisket, gooey mozzarella cheese, and the delicious fry bread. I also was able to try the turkey, which was equally great. Very moist and great flavor, would highly recommend it to anyone in search of good portions of delicious barbecue. We ordered out lunch here for the other half's birthday a couple week's ago. He's a huge BBQ fan so we like to try places whereever we live. He ordered the Ribs and pulled pork , with a side of mac and cheese and creamed corn. I ordered the pulled pork with the same sides. We shared an order of mixed sweet potato and regular french fries. I do wish they had a couple different varieties of sauce and that they gave more sauce, but their sauce was good. His ribs were a little on the cold side, probably due to this being a takeout order, unfortunately. The pulled pork was excellent. I wish they had an option to include coleslaw with it and not have to add it as a side, because I prefer my pulled pork with coleslaw. The creamed corn and the mac and cheese were excellent. Overall, a good experience. I do prefer to eat my BBQ in person so I can drench my food with sauce but the turn around was quick and the food tastly. This place is fantastic. Out of all the BBQ places around there isn't a better option than Smokin Bones. I usually get the Steak Burger which comes with pulled pork, cheese and a steak burger patty and bbq sauce. I also love their BBQ Pizza, but it's always hit or miss if you can get it. Sometimes it isn't available for some reason, which can be frustrating as it is absolutely amazing and one of the best things on the menu. Lately it doesn't even show up on the online ordering menu. When i can get it i usually get the pulled pork pizza. I literally crave the pizza on a regular basis! read more

First time here and had the brisket sandwich, beans, coleslaw, cornbread and sweet tea. I am no barbecue expert, but found the sandwich unremarkable. Not enough BBQ sauce. It was served less than Luke warm. The meat was stringy, dry and yet soggy to chew. Does that mean it has been soaking in water? Not sure why there are rolls of paper towels on the table; not enough sauce to even cover the sandwich bun, let alone be messy enough to need a towel for clean up. I liked the beans the best. Corn bread and coleslaw ok. $17 for this lackluster gastronomic adventure, kind of on the steep side. There may be other things offered here that may be redeeming. Checked to see if everything was there, they forgot the pie, bbq sauce and forks. While I was waiting, about four people came to the counter asking for forks. By the time I got home which is 6 mins away. The food was already cold. The ribs and steak burgers were good, except one of the buns looked liked it had mold on it. Not really in par with other big names in Utah (Bam Bams, R&R, Five Star) I had the 2 meat plate for $14 (after tax). This included beef brisket, and turkey with bbq beans and cornbread on the side. I think the first cardinal rule when it comes to authentic bbq is you always include buttered toast and a pickle with the meal. These niceties where not observed. The brisket lacked a good rub, remaining on the bark. The consistency was similar to a corned beef. The brisket did not show tell tale signs of careful smoking. All in all, the brisket was a mushy mess, and needed some better direction. The turkey tasted and had the consistency of an obvious brine. There was no smoke line, the fat content of the turkey was non existent and thus had no savor. The beans tasted just like Bush's canned beans. And the cornbread had nothing fantastic to report either. This restaurant carries a bbq name, but lacks the bbq flare. The meats I tasted here would not last an entry round at a Kansas City judging panel. read more

The ribs are great, the sauce delicious... sadly the picnic concept and horrible seating make me resentful of the prices. Also watching the staff cut, measure and weigh the meat makes me feel like I'm in a butcher shop. Many of the people I see coming in order to go and I always wish I could too. If you want ribs go early in the evening as they are very good quality and they often run out. Avoid the beef brisket if you like nice slabs because randomly I'll get what looks like shredded beef. read more
