I was in the Dundalk area by chance and decided to give Smokin' Joes Grill a shot after seeing others' reviews. I think it's worth mentioning that I've never had pit beef before so I am by no means an expert as to what's good or not. I will also say however, that what I ordered, the open face pit beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy was ok. The entire plate was swimming in gravy so that took away from what could've been a better meal. I did ask for gravy on the whole sandwich and the mashed potatoes (because the picture on their website looked like gravy only came on the mashed potatoes and I do like a little extra) but I wasn't expecting a to-go box literally full of gravy, so that's probably my fault. The texture of the beef mixed with all the gravy and mashed potatoes was a bit unpleasant and soupy and I periodically had to pick burnt bits and foil out my mouth so that also took away from the experience. They seem to have a pretty vast menu and I had no idea what I was going to get when I walked in. The young lady that took my order was very friendly and helped me come to my decision so the customer service was good and I appreciated her patience with me. As far as ambiance goes, while I was waiting for my order, there was an older man waiting for his order that was yelling at the tv about how Joe Biden hasn't done anything for this country and that Trump only told the truth. I try not to get caught up in politics with strangers because it really can be off putting but what can you do. I wouldn't do the gravy with a side of open face pit beef sandwich again but there's so many other options I'd like to try in the future should I find myself in the area again. This is a little gem in Dundalk... A small establishment with limited seating inside, and outside seating which is not recommended during this time of the year. Service is friendly and pretty fast. I had the baby back ribs, tender and tasty. Half slab was delicious, but next time I get the full rack, so I can have seconds. It comes with 2 sides, coleslaw and fries in my case. Omg we found this hidden gem while out looking for a quick lunch and it did not disappoint. It's situated in a small neighborhood area so you may pass it but we found it and during the time it was. It busy at all. All the food is cooked fresh and prices are within reason. I ordered wings and my hubby ordered chopped cheese (cheesesteak) and fries. We both had plenty left over so that is always a place. It's a small quaint restaurant but the staff was great and even provided samples of homemade items to try. I also had the beef hotdog with chili and cheese added - also really good. The black bottom cupcake was decent, but in my opinion it was a big overpriced. The plain cheesecake was decent as well. I personally wouldn't get dessert from there again, just wasn't worth it. Customer service was phenomenal! The owner was really personable and professional. Interior and exterior was very clean. Stopped by because I saw the sign and wanted to try it out. Big parking lot and I guess lots of people eat here. I looked at the menu but I couldn't decide what I wanted to eat. I was thinking brisket sandwich looked good so when I got in and asked the cashier he said they ran out of it. I said ok wow. Must be good them. I ordered a roast beef sandwich minus the roll prepared medium. He said it will take a few minutes and I said ok. I had taken a seat and waited. The front of the house is kinda small but has a few tables for people to eat and it looks clean with a few pictures around. Drink machine on the far wall waiting for some action. I did not order a drink so not going to get any action from me. At the counter they have a cold case with various deserts you can purchase. I was good so I did not order any. Finally, the sandwich arrived. Sorry no pics but trust me it was good. The beef was cut thin and tender. The aroma of the meat was smoke and warm and juicy. The Roast beef was delicious and if I had the roll it would have been even better but for me if the meat is good it should be able to stand on it's own without bbq sauce. The roast beef was seasoned with salt and pepper and spices that reminded me of Texas style bbq. The gave me one small mini cup of bbq sauce. The sauce was delicious and taste. It was thin like ketchup. I like it. Good flavor with a hint of Kansas city flavors. I like Carolina but Kansas city is ok. This is a good spot for roast beast. As much as I love five guys or burger fi... you have to give this place a shot over those places any day! This place can cook a mean burger and cook it perfectly! Every time we have ordered from here, the food is done with precision and flavor! They have a great selection and the price is very reasonable ! Their pit beef and turkey is also excellent! I would recommend that you eat this quickly after picking up as the bottom bread gets so wet from all the juices.. and that was the only thing that made it less enjoyable. In terms of sides I love their fries and macaroni salad. Personally I wasn't a big fan of their cole slaw and I loveeeee cole slaw but theirs was very runny and not enough slaw IMO. read more

It wasn't my choice but I enjoyed my meal. The cashier was new and in training yet very pilot and tried to be thorough. There was a constant flow of customers which was a good sign for me, a first timer. There's a couple tables for eating in, which we did. It was clean and stocked with supplies & condiments. First time visit and it won't be our last. This place does a slammin' business, plenty of to go orders. Some eat in, a hand full of tables, but also have picnic tables on one side of the building. I ordered the smokehouse burger of the month, huge 3/4 lb with fresh cut fries, ahhh, fresh and hot. Burger was med rare, just as ordered. Beautiful smokey flavor that was a delight to the taste buds. Husband got the corned beef combo, also smoked, that included a lg drink and fresh cuts. He thoroughly enjoyed it. The only negative that was going on was the counter staff yelling out (not speaking loudly) names when the orders were ready-it was not necessary, just way too much noise in a small room. I can see them talking loudly to the kitchen staff behind them about orders, but this rose above loudness. Really detracted from the meal for those eating inside. read more

I came for dinner last night and ordered 20 wings, a triple cheese bacon burger with fries and a drink, an order of mozzarella sticks and an extra order of fries. When ordering the wings I had asked to have half mild, half honey garlic and the lady immediately got aggressive and said they can't do things like that so I asked to have the mild sauce on the side. To say the least, I never got the Buffalo sauce. I will say the wings were delicious, albeit a little over cooked since they were kind of hard. The burger was huge, just half of it filled me up. We were missing an order of fries and the mozzarella sticks were over cooked where some of them had all the cheese exploded out of it. Believe the high star Yelp reviews. I was really in the mood for pit beef after we were exploring the beach out in Essex. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. The first good sign that this place might be better than expected was the fact there were two strangers chatting in the parking lot about how this place compared to other famous pit beef joints. One person was raving about how much meat they got in their entree. That was promising. So we go into this small little square building by the side of the road and placed an order for two pit beef sandwiches on kaiser rolls (you get your choice of bread), side of Mac n cheese, plain Jane hot dog, fries with old bay, and potato salad. We may have over ordered. There are a few tables inside and they were already taken but luckily there was a rows of about six picnic tables outside. The food came out quick and they even helped us take the tray outside. The minute they saw the dogs they asked if they ate meat and of course they did because basically my dogs eat everything but lettuce. And then they brought out a whole to go container of assorted meats and ends. The dogs went bananas. Every item of the human food for consumption was great too. I got medium rare beef and it was sliced and prepared so thin and tender. Also there was a heap of it too. The sandwich easily could have fed two people. I made sure to get tiger sauce and raw onions at the fixins bar too but the meat could have stood on its own. The Mac n cheese had lots of gooey melted cheese, clearly freshly home made. The fries were thick cut and heavily addictive. Very much like beach fries. The staff was closing up (they close earlier than most places-8pm) and get they keep checking in with us. We learned the place has been in business for about a year. Apparently they have awesome pulled pork but it they had run out that night. That is even more reason to come back. What a great little place! The service was wonderful; we had questions about the menu and they were incredibly patient with us. They were smiling, kind, and efficient. I got the open faced pit beef. My husband ordered a chili cheese hot dog. Both came with fries. It was all delicious and the portions were generous. It is a small place with just a few tables but most people were carrying out. I had been wanting to check this place out since the early summer but never was able to because I was only in Dundalk on Mondays, they're closed on Mondays. So this past rainy Sunday I said "Self, today is the day to grab them dogs". O, I forgot to mention that the hot dogs posted on yelp are what drew me in. I love a good hot dog or 2! The place is easy to find and has its own private parking lot with plenty of space. They have outside seating available for warmer days or if you just feel like sitting no matter the weather. Inside is very clean with about 6-7 tables. You place your order at the counter while trying not to be side tracked by the goodies in the glass case. They have a large menu so choosing what to settle on can be a little difficult. If you're like me, just order several things and decide on which to eat later. The only reason I gave them 4 stars and not 5 is because I ordered a 6 pack of deviled eggs. I was looking forward to those deviled eggs. I eyed those eggs in the glass case!!! The eggs did not make it into my to-go order. I wasn't upset because they weren't on my receipt so no money lost but they were the first thing I said when placing my order. I've been looking forward to this night: a return visit to Smokin' Joe's! We arrived around 7:35 pm after a CCBC Dundalk baseball game. We stood at the counter for a minute or two before we were noticed and able to place our order. They were cleaning for their 8pm closing time. No problem. The gal at the counter told us from the onset they were out of beef, sausage, pulled pork and sweet potato fries. That's a good thing as food is prepared fresh daily. So I ordered two smokin Joe dogs with chili and cheese with fries and a drink. My son ordered the black and Bleu burger combo. Food was good. Hot dog a bit messy and they gave us a ton of fries! One dog and a half ton of fries came home with us. Joe's is a great food value and they did not rush us out as they were closed when we left. I like this place and will return. read more

Finally, a yummy place to get food in Dundalk. Believe me I've been looking for my go to lunch place. I ordered the cheeseburger, fries and a sweet tea and was so impressed. I ordered for delivery and the food arrived warm not cold and not soggy as can be the case at other places. The fries tasted fresh cut. The sweet tea wasn't overly sweet which was a relief. This place has to be one of Dundalks best kept secrets. Just writing this post had my mouth watering. The burgers are amazing and massively stacked! The ribs and pulled pork are seasoned to perfection. I find the portions are huge! Like Dundalk huge! From a price point I find they are fair especially considering the portions. Ok, now I don't particularly care for grilled anything but decided to try this place while in Maryland. I ordered the pulled pork, mac and cheese and fries. I love the pulled pork and the sauce but the meat is pureed which is not very appealing to me. Nevertheless, the meal was still wonderful. The fries are fresh and taste wonderful. The mac and cheese is so-so but I still enjoyed it. Overall I was pleased with my food and will definitely be going back. The restaurant is small and in a stand alone location. The service was fast and there aren't many seats for the patrons. I found a seat in the corner and went to work! Ok I started coming here when the original owner opened a few years back and the food was good. Stopped in today because I had a taste for a pit beef sandwich. Didn't know that they had new owners until the young lady behind the counter told me they did so I wasn't really expecting much. But I got my sandwich fries and drink and the same for my 14 year old daughter. Well I was surprised because the pit beef sandwich that I ate had the best flavor I would put it almost right up there with chaps pit beef. The only thing that held me back from giving 5 stars was the Kaiser roll that I chose didn't hold up to the meat, it fell apart quick. Great food, great customer service, one glaringly fatal flaw: they put black pepper in their Mac n Cheese. I've ordered their Mac n Cheese as a side now twice, and both times I've been disgusted at first bite. It's a shame because the last time I'd ordered with my toddler in mind, but there was no way he could eat that. I just threw it away after barely two bites. Macaroni and cheese is such an American classic that any seasoned chef would be wise to note any deviation from the norm needs a warning in place so any diners are advised well in advance of the difference from what they might be expecting to what they're actually getting. I enjoy spicy food. I enjoy diverse cuisines. Warn a girl before you desecrate the golden noodles with black pepper. Four stars because everything else about this place is a thumbs up. read more

I have heard good things so I decided to give them a try after work. The service was horrible. I ordered my food and their register went down so I had to wait for them to fix that. It wasn't that bad until I got my food and after asking for a Turkey sandwich with fries I received just sandwiches. I then had to pay again for fries. I asked for sauces which I saw the guy grab them and somehow they didn't make it into my bag. As I get home and open the sandwich it is the driest Turkey I have ever gotten. No sauce. After specifying lettuce and tomato, those things magically didn't make it on the sandwich. The only pleasant thing about this experience was the fries. Solid 7/10 on that.
