Very disappointing experience from a business we have supported for more than three decades. We…read moreshop here several times a week and have generally trusted the pricing and customer service, which made this situation even more frustrating. A loaf of Brioche bread was clearly marked at $5 on the display stand, but it rang up at $7 at checkout. When we questioned it, the clerk went back, took a photo of the display and explained that the sign was only meant to "draw attention" and was not actually the price for that bread. That explanation made little sense, especially since the bread on the display appeared to be the same product. My wife later called and spoke with the manager, Kelly, regarding what we viewed as false or misleading advertising. Unfortunately, the response was dismissive and unapologetic. Rather than acknowledging the confusion or offering to make it right, the pricing display was defended by claiming the marked price applied to bread on the other side of the stand. What concerns me most is how many customers likely never notice these discrepancies. We only caught it by chance, and I suspect many others simply pay the higher amount without realizing it. After being longtime loyal customers, this experience and the lack of accountability have caused us to reconsider shopping here. Leadership should be aware of how situations like this are handled because customer loyalty can disappear quickly when trust is lost.

The store itself is extremely clean, well kept and the staff is helpful. I am sometimes disappointed they don't have certain brands or flavors ( Mikey's regular flavor English muffins) and a few other things. Sometimes I wish they carried more local type items, night shade free bbq/ketchup that is made in KC. I can typically find all of my healthy food here, for my everyday cooking. When you become a member ( super easy and you get points and coupons) they have speciality prices on things like organic eggs, avocados, bacon, kombcha. These special prices are all the time for members. Totally worth it for organic avocados and eggs!!!! They sell other items in bulk, organic almonds, cashews, coconut shreds, spices, seasonings and such. Makes it really easy to refill your jars at home and much cheaper then always buying new jars. They carry grab and go items, health and beauty items and supplements/vitamins. If you are looking for a healthy grocery option, head to NG. Sometimes their veggie and fruit prices are cheaper than Whole Foods, sprouts and Hyvee ( and better quality).

Their produce department looks well maintained and properly sourced, they have a decent supplement department, their bulk spices are significantly superior and less expensive than their competitors, and you can't beat their pricing on eggs if you are an NPower member. The store always looks clean and the employees are always friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. My only complaints are the food selection in the store as well as limited fresh meat options (almost everything is frozen). And, I wish this location was larger like the ones in Lenexa, Lawrence, and Liberty. If it was larger, I would shop here more often.

As much as I would like to support a locally owned business, I just can't justify it with the type of service they offer in the store, their selection, and their pricing.

As it happens, they did have the product I was looking for (white chia seeds) but for the most part if you're looking for groceries neither of these stores are your first option. You need to go to Whole Foods, Natural Grocer, or the surprisingly complete health food departments at many local Hy-Vees! Service was friendly and efficient -- the woman at the counter could go right to the shelf where the white chia was located and the price was OK (it's very popular these days, it seems, so it's not inexpensive). If this location isn't near where you live, DO call them before going to save yourself a wasted trip. But if you're looking for supplements you should be happy camper here or at Emerald Forest! The shop is in a strip mall at the SW corner of 151st and Mur-Len in Olathe.

At the location there are 56 DIFFERENT FLAVORS ON TAP that can you sample before filling a bottle. It looks like the Keg Flavors are online if you want to check before going - I'm not sure if these rotate, but there are dozens of more common fruity flavors and some unique ones as well. Here are some of the more unique ones I'm seeing currently listed: Cayenne Mango, Cold Brew Coffee, Key Lime Pie, Margarita, Root Beer, Raspberry Balsamic, Spiced Cider, and some flavors with CBD. I watched the "Our Story" video linked on the website and learned Tea-Biotics kombucha is made with a real SCOBY, raw ingredients, organic green/black tea, and reverse osmosis water. I also learned Tea-Biotics is Woman-Owned & Operated (Certified WBENC). When I visited last weekend I grabbed a bottle of the Elderberry Mango and tried the Elderberry Lemonade on tap and both were delicious. I believe if you bring in your own bottles you can get a cheaper rate or discount of some sort but I'm not seeing confirmation of that on the website so TBD.

I randomly visited the Lenexa Sprouts location for the first time since it opened. I used to live…read moreright behind this lot before the store was built, and what an upgrade! I wish it was around when I was living in the area. I would definitely be a regular customer! I visited on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, and the store was organized, neat, and easy to navigate, which was a lovely start. I had two main items on my mission: grabbing the Back to Nature Peanut Butter Creme Crackers (a snack I became obsessed with after a trip to New York!) and picking up a specific protein powder for my mom, which was on a great Buy One, Get One 50% Off deal. However, the real highlight was the service, thanks to Dahlia, a head cashier employee who stopped to help us. Dahlia was incredibly kind and went above and beyond. She walked us through the free rewards program, explaining not only how to find coupons but also detailing a huge deal: if you buy $100 or more in health & beauty products (including that protein powder!) within a three-month span, you will be able to get 30% off your next purchase. She explained that the purchases history for this deal resets after the three months are up. She even took the time to offer personalized recommendations, sharing her own experience with thinning and oily hair and suggesting specific shampoo and conditioner products for me to try. After Dahlia helped me with the rewards sign-up, I checked out with a different cashier. This cashier was also super nice; she knew I was setting up the account and proactively made sure I either entered my phone number or had my rewards barcode scanned before I paid, guaranteeing I got my points for that trip. The service didn't end there! I had a $3 off coupon for the protein powder that wouldn't go through due to the store's poor cell service/Wi-Fi connection. Dahlia, without hesitation, simply gave me $3 back in cash to honor the coupon deal--that is truly above and beyond customer service. I highly recommend this location! The product selection is great, and the atmosphere is pleasant, but the staff--especially Dahlia--is what makes this store shine.

They are well stocked in what they provide, and you can typically find your Aldi items and get into the line to check out fairly quickly...and then wait for an hour to get through the checkout lane. Ha! Having multiple checkout lanes doesn't mean that they have the staff to man them. Only one was open on my visit, and ahead of my small handful of items were folks with grocery carts spilling over the top. So yeah. So I stopped in at the Emerald Forest during lunch one day. I was pretty sure this local health food and supplement store would carry it. They did have mineral salts deodorant -- two varieties in fact. The health and beauty section was probably the best-stocked part of the store, so I browsed around in the toothpastes, soaps and lotions for awhile. Every product I picked up was cruelty-free, and most were organic too. I made my way through the rest of the store more quickly because unlike the health and beauty aides, the other sections weren't quite as well-stocked, that is until I reached the vitamins and supplements. Emerald Forest's selection rivals GNC in this area, which must be their bread and butter. If you're used to the robust offerings at Whole Foods you won't be impressed by Emerald Forest. When stacked against giants like Whole Foods, you have to come in expecting that merchandise would be on the low side but here it's almost non-existent. I stopped counting the empty produce bins and shelves early on. Selection was scarce for many of my usual staples - cereals/granola, yogurt and pizzas. Their selection of herbal teas weren't bad with a full line of Celestial Seasonings, Yogi and Stash teas. Unfortunately, I have had the pleasure of experiencing Trader Joe's and that makes me almost shy away from any other place because their selection, pricing and service always outshine the rest, including Whole Foods or Wild Oats. For small shops, I always look for quality, selection and the friendliness of the workers, all of which were lacking substantially at Emerald. Not my kind of jewel.

There are never any good coupons, promotions, or discount days, but even so, I continued to support your business, spending on average $17 a visit. When I politely asked the employee for a bit more fruit, especially since there were only five blueberries in my bowl and plenty of room left, I was told that management has instructed staff to put no more than five blueberries in each bowl. They are not allowed to fill the bowls anymore. This is a lousy business practice, and it speaks volumes about how little you value your customers. There's a new açaí bowl establishment just miles away that offers BOGO days, a rewards program that actually counts, and bowls filled to the brim. You can keep your five blueberries.
