The best thing about NG, 100% organic fruit and veggies. You don't have to cipher through to find the organic veggies and fruits you need like you do at most grocery stores. The store itself is extremely clean, well kept and the staff is helpful. I am sometimes disappointed they don't have certain brands or flavors ( Mikey's regular flavor English muffins) and a few other things. Sometimes I wish they carried more local type items, night shade free bbq/ketchup that is made in KC. I can typically find all of my healthy food here, for my everyday cooking. When you become a member ( super easy and you get points and coupons) they have speciality prices on things like organic eggs, avocados, bacon, kombcha. These special prices are all the time for members. Totally worth it for organic avocados and eggs!!!! They sell other items in bulk, organic almonds, cashews, coconut shreds, spices, seasonings and such. Makes it really easy to refill your jars at home and much cheaper then always buying new jars. They carry grab and go items, health and beauty items and supplements/vitamins. If you are looking for a healthy grocery option, head to NG. The store is smaller than other Natural Grocer locations, but it is still far superior to the Whole Foods that is located across the street. Their produce department looks well maintained and properly sourced, they have a decent supplement department, their bulk spices are significantly superior and less expensive than their competitors, and you can't beat their pricing on eggs if you are an NPower member. The store always looks clean and the employees are always friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. My only complaints are the food selection in the store as well as limited fresh meat options (almost everything is frozen). And, I wish this location was larger like the ones in Lenexa, Lawrence, and Liberty. If it was larger, I would shop here more often. read more

I have been very unhappy with the quality of produce at this location. The last apples and cucumbers I purchased were inedible. I have had this happen several times. I do like to purchase essential oils and personal care items and supplements here. read more

This is a pretty good market. It's considerably cheaper than Whole Paycheck, or Hen House for that matter, for the things I want, although it's a different kind of store so the comparison only goes that far. I stopped here a month or two ago when they first opened, the customer service was extremely eager :) and have been back almost every week. I hope it's okay and not hurtful to mention the following, I mean it positively - also they had some differently abled staff, specifically one very helpful young woman who was reading my lips mostly and did a great job of showing me to the Mary's Gone Crackers I could not find. I like to see this kind of diversity in hiring, makes the world a better place. It's close to my house, and you go here for packaged/bulk things mostly, though the vegetable section is surprisingly good. Also, they usually have some bags of veggies they need to shed for $2, and those can be a great deal. (from this quick sale cart tonight I got 2 huge rutabagas (fine), a huge green idaho potato (it'll trim) and a tomato which was fine for that. Also a rotten small orange and two smashed kiwis, but I just threw those out. Think I'll make pasties this weekend!) Good selection of every vegetarian prepared meat substitute known to man or beast, some frozen, some in the fridge for convenience. I like this stuff and my dear friend is vegetarian so I do cook with it. No Central Soyfoods smoked tofu though, I can't find that stuff in KC I guess national grocers don't stock local Lawrence KS products. Wide variety of bulk packaged nuts, raw, roasted and flavored. I really like this grocery store. It has an extensive section of high quality supplements, as well as a well stocked natural health and beauty department. It carries many of the same organic items and brands as its main competitor, and sometimes even better alternatives. The most significant difference between the two is there is no deli here, no salad bar, no seating area, no coffee bar and nothing made in-house. But that's ok with me. The one thing that bums me out is their underwhelming produce section. Though it is all organic, the produce looks unappealing and never seems very fresh. It's also quite small, relative to other grocery stores. Small selection and not much looking fresh. This is one downside. Bring your bag. If you don't, the Nat Gro will kindly send you away carrying your purchases in used boxes. Which is also fine with me. This Olathe location is huge. Shopping at Natural Grocers instead of other health food markets (ahem.... whole paycheck...) can be a smart-money saving adventure. Last week, I bought snacks for the football game at my local Natural Grocers. On Sunday, my husband opened up a package of sausage (the kind you slice and have on crackers with cheese) and it was moldy. I didn't know when I would make it back in so I took pictures of the mold and tossed the sausage and wrapper. Cuz eeeew. Today, I walked in and spoke to a manager and asked if I could just "exchange it" for a new one. She said I would need a receipt or packaging to prove I had it. And that they are "cracking down" on "this". I stayed calm and repeated my self, again pointing at the picture, explained I dont keep moldy things in my house, explained how I toss receipts once I reconcile my account. I also explained how I have a choice to spend my hundreds of dollars a week at the Whole Foods that is the SAME PARKING LOT at their establishment. I shop at Natural Grocers 2-3 times a week and spend most of my food budget there. Nope. She wouldn't give me another sausage. I told them I would no longer be spending my money there and walked out. I called coorperate. Sparing the details, the woman on the phone wouldn't do anything for me either. I am so upset. I want to keep shopping there. They could have told me that in the future, ABC is their policy. They choose to lose me as a customer. I can and will go to Whole Foods now. read more

This store is so much easier to shop than Whole Foods - not as crowded, fewer "attractions" - just groceries. They mark things down to reflect impending "sell by dates" and have a section in the refrigerated area where you can find some good deals. I really like that the bulk food is packaged as I have seen some things going on at Whole Foods in the open bulk area that make my skin crawl - people are pretty gross..... I'm glad this store is here and hope they don't have to exit because of the new Whole Foods just across the parking lot. read more

I really like this place. I feel like it's pretty reasonable on most of the items. I will find things cheaper every once in awhile (Target had a sale on Amy's frozen entrees) but for the most part it's my go-to store for more healthy food. Definitely like it better than Whole Foods. read more

Visited Natural Grocers for the fist time, which I absolutely loved! Normally I buy my organic and gluten free items online, but now I have easy access to them, and mostly everything has doesn't prices. I really hope this place stays a while, I will be visiting often!
