I called around and came across Workout Anytime and talked to Brenda (owner) and she was very helpful and offered to let me workout there and give me 24/7 access to the gym during the Holidays. I used to live in Newark about 10 years ago and was very familiar with the area and was happy to see this new addition. The gym is is not all that big, but has pretty much every machine you could possibly want to use. I especially like the virtual bike trainer, something I have never seen before with a spin bike. They also offer a hydro message machine that is really nice. My only complaint would actually be on the virtual trainer bike as with most spin bikes you have at least an RPM or Mileage display. This has neither so as the virtual instructor is giving you direction you are trying to match leg movement vs keeping the RPM's he is requesting. My suggestion would be is the add a display on the bike for this or just get some spinning bikes that have this already on it.

Yes, an older building, a little cramped in the locker room and other areas. But easy access, plenty of parking, friendly staff, and the workout area (the only one I actually used) was great. Medium-sized, plenty of machines open on a weekday morning. Looks bigger with the walls of windows, and mirrors on the interior walls. Everything clean and in good shape. It even has its own wetland/natural area outside, with picnic tables. Hopefully they will rebuild here, because it's a great location.

I joined to take advantage of the gym and the swimming pool, as I was recovering from total knee replacement so this was the perfect situation for me. They don't have a great variety of gym equipment, but there's enough there to suit your needs. They have a great staff that is attentive and willing to work with you, no matter what the situation. I wish they had longer hours, but that's ok. They're open long enough for the great majority.

I like the mix of folks that work out there too. It's a good mix of cardiac rehab folks, Grant employees, and other random folks. A lot of older folks so I never feel intimidated by the seriously fit young folks at other gyms. The small size and non chain affiliation make this gym a "best kept secret" that most folks have never heard of. I almost hate to yelp about it because it is so nice and quiet there now.

I went to a fitness class two days a week for most of the last year I was there and tried to make sure I scheduled around it. And I am not typically a class-goer. Though there's no pool, I was motivated to learn how to swim through the life coaching sessions I bought. Now that I can swim, I wish there was a pool, but not a big deal. Population: As Susan H. mentions, it's not your typical loud, grunty hardbodies population. Instead there are people with a range of abilities, so it's not intimidating. It was motivating to take a class or work on equipment with people in their 70s who could run rings around me. This gave to something to work toward, maintain, and then improve upon. I will say that dude do not know how to put their equipment back and like to ignore the no cellphones rule. What's up with that sense of entitlement? Parking used to be a bit of a nightmare, especially in winter, because I'm convinced hospital staff were parking in the deck who weren't supposed to. However, it vastly improved in the last year or so. Still, use the green deck if you want to get to the fitness center and take the elevator to the 9th floor. Also, there's usually plenty of parking on floors 4-6, but you'll likely get stuck behind some numpty driving 5mph or trying to squeeze their stupid SUV into a spot [thisbig]. Finally, it's easier to back into the spots, which are freakishly small. If that's my only complaint, you know this is a good gym. In a previous life, I would usually last for eight months at a gym before quitting or going maybe once a week. I stuck with Grant for two years and it will be hard to duplicate the experience.

I'm extremely frustrated because I was super excited to try the new gym, but their lack of communication/updates is a huge turn off and is very unprofessional. The work out was great, unfortunately part of the particular workout is running down the strip mall sidewalk in front of the pub and back. There is a reason I choose the privacy of a gym. The equipment seemed kind of run down but still usable. The workout was great! I was sore and feeling great before it was even over. On my way out the staff had asked me to stop by the desk to officially check in. At this point they said my Groupon was good for 4 weeks and offered 3 to 4 different packages around $100+ a month. I asked if I could wait to decide once I have been there more than once and the woman at the desk said this was a 1 time offer and price would go up if I decided to sign a contract later locking me in. I was also told there is no month to month membership available. Having been to other nicer gyms that offer more amenities for same price or lower, I declined. The pressure sale is a major turnoff and will guarantee no business from me, it's not cool. I chose not to return ever. High pressure sales tactics aren't only illegal, they're bad for business.
