If you're nervous about starting crossfit, this is a great gym to start off in. A majority of the coaches are women, classes are diverse across age, gender, and race, and they are queer friendly, all of which are very important to me! Every month they have a 101 class that's meant to be an on-ramp course to ease you into "normal" crossfit workouts. They often run deals on these classes that bring the price to around $50 for two weeks of 6 classes, with a deal of ~$50 for unlimited classes in the first month after 101. Membership prices vary depending on how often you want to come in during a week: 2x, 3x, or unlimited. The schedule offers a lot of flexibility--there are a few early morning workouts during the week, noon workouts on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and 5 pm workouts (and later) every weekday (5:30 on Fridays). The noon and 5 pm workouts mean that it's very easy to pop into the gym if you work in downtown Lansing and live elsewhere, as I do. On Saturdays they have morning workouts (usually partner workouts which are beginner-friendly) and Sundays they have open gym from 2-4 pm.

Always clean and inviting and the teachers are all very friendly! Pure Barre is a low impact, full body workout that uses movements with a small range of motion to effectively tone the body. I have seen such a difference in my strength since taking pure barre. Especially in my abs! I love starting my day with Pure Barre. Their positive environment leaves me feeling accomplished and ready to take on the day!

They always focus on doing the right movement and modifying the WOD (Work out of the day) as per your body/physical abilities. I started with the on boarding program and it really helped me understand the different movements and it also taught me about how I can scale an exercise to work my way up the ladder of fitness. Not to mention, all the folks in class are always kind and generous; making me want to show up every day and give it my best.

The coaches are welcoming, knowledgeable and encouraging. I love that the workouts change every day, challenge me physically and use different equipment all the time. Some days we use kettlebells, bosu balls for push up or other stability training, they have battle ropes (killer!), TRX ropes (love!), free weights, dyna balls, sand balls. You name it, they have it and use it! My favorite thing about this place is the workout format and how it changes every day and is ONLY 30 MINUTES! I joined in January, but finally committed to consistently attending 3x/week and have seen gains (my clothes fit better and I've lost inches!). The coaches provide encouragement and modifications for each exercise as well, so any fitness level can be successful at Holt FBBC. Because it is an investment, there are usually trials you can sign up for to make sure you will be committed.

I finally did it in June and I thought I was all set but nope they charged me 40.00 on June 30th and then charged me 50.00 on July 1st. Stating the 50.00 is to help pay for their new gym equipment. I had planned rejoining in the fall but after that I will just find another gym.

The music: for the most part, they have turned down the volume a bit, but it seems to depend on who is working that day. Some just crank it up. They also seem to choose the music, and I have spoken to several members that hate the music selection... I really don't want to lift heavy to 3 Non Blondes. You aren't going to please everyone, so why make the music front and center? TURN IT DOWN! Equipment: They have a great variety of equipment and bars, as well as a box with belts and various apparatuses to use while lifting. Every once in a while something will break, but I don't ever remember seeing it down for more than a few days. Kudos to Conquest for staying on top of maintenance. Cleanliness: I gotta admit this is one of the cleanest gyms I've been to. There's always someone vacuuming or wiping down equipment. Turf area: they do allow access to that training area for an up charge to your membership. I'm good with that and appreciate that I can use it when there aren't group sessions going on. Olympic platform: this is still a sore spot for me. They installed one, but it's not a real platform... it's a cutout of the rubber flooring and they put wood in it. The coating on it has worn off and doesn't provide the grip that a real platform does. Please get a few real platforms!

The class was as fun and Carrie's instructions were thorough without being long winded. She also talked through modifications and advancements to make sure everyone was comfortable and could participate at their level. The pace was great and kept the class moving- I realized we were nearing the end and was shocked at how fast class had gone. Clean and beautiful studio. Love the varying times of classes and offerings to meet different schedules- plus it's so easy to schedule on the app!

This place is a joke. The instructors do the same routine every class. They say they'll give hands…read moreon adjustments, but never do. They pace up and down the aisle and I often see them looking out into the parking lot. Music is always an issue, either a speaker doesn't work, the playlist is crap, or sometimes I've had a music-free class. The good instructors left after the opening and they can't seem to find good replacements. Front desk staff can't seem to figure out how to scan socks and a girl with braces welcomes you to the studio by snapping "did you check in" the moment you walk in. The 12 hour cancellation timeframe is bs. Your kid gets sick overnight and too bad, they'll hit you for $15. If you've ever practiced real Pilates, you'll recognize this place as a joke. I'm surprised more people haven't been injured from improper, and uncorrected technique.
