What I appreciate most about the club are the friendly people. The lifeguards, swim coaches, snackbar staff, and Chuck Cooper consistently work hard to ensure an excellent experience. The front desk staff are always welcoming, and management frequently reaches out to members for feedback on improving the club. They also do a fantastic job of keeping membership rates consistent. For instance, they allow me to add my wife to my membership during the summer for an additional fee, and then I can return to my previous single membership at the same rate when summer ends. The central location of the facilities, along with the friendliness of both the members and the staff, makes this my favorite place to work out in Louisville. It's been wonderful still having the pool open outside. Most outdoor pools close on Labor Day. Blairwoods is open year round! Thank you!

They now have a Mobility class on Saturdays that helps stretch you out. Classes are at convenient times for me, no matter what time of day I want to go. The instructors/facilitators are friendly and helpful. You have to go through introductory sessions so you learn the correct way to do lifts, etc. I haven't found an instructor that I don't like. The gym and equipment is clean and they even have showers! Great gym and I'm getting stronger and leaner!

I was not in very good shape but I felt welcomed and invigorated. So whether it's your first time in the gym or you're a star athlete there is a place for everyone. The community is supportive, inspiring, and motivating. The atmosphere and music is amazing, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else to work out. They offer a free trial, I believe it's 7 days and right now there is a 4 weeks for $69 special. Typical memberships can be purchased 1 month, 6 months, 12 months or 18 months. They even offer camp packs of 10/20 camps. Contact your local Burn for pricing. There are tons of camps through the day, I believe each location has different times so check your local Burn for their times but Crestwood camps start at 5am all the way to 6:30pm. Child care is offered for most camps and there are also a few coed camps, each location has different code times. I highly suggest everyone give it a go, at least do the 7 day trial. You will be sore, but it will be worth it.

The current location is awesome... so spacious with so much equipment. Everyone is friendly and the staff is always so helpful, encouraging, knowledgeable, and will challenge you if need be. I've made several friends there as well, where we will hold each other accountable which also motivates you to keep going. Each day is a different designed workout for specific areas of the body with music playing through their systems. It's nice to not have to think about what you need to do at the gym that day or design your own workout or even try to push yourself. It's all there for you! They even have heart monitors you can check out/wear to track your heart rate and calories. The workouts: Sunday is core, Monday is total body, Tuesday is lower body, Wednesday is core & cardio, Thursday is upper body, Friday is a challenge day that will work your whole body, and Saturday offers an Advanced Camp, Yoga, and a free (with the donation of a canned good) :45 total body workout for anyone (that means non-members too). That free workout is called Get Fit Give Back. All the canned goods are then donated to Dare to Care. I love that they give back. The work outs are in :30 increments which helps members to stagger their start times. However, if you put two :30 workouts back to back, the hour will be all different... and then it will start over. The trainers will also help you meal plan, offer nutrition classes, track your progress, etc... whatever it will take to help you succeed.

I have a lot of good things to say about this very unusual and busy YMCA in downtown Louisville and I can see why everybody loves it because the people working here are off-the-charts friendly. The guy at the front desk was a southern gentleman of the younger variety and he helped me get into the building and told me where everything is and he could sense that I was in a hurry so he hurried along his instructions. He got me in within just a few seconds of showing up. So he gets 10 stars out of five. However the locker system just doesn't work. I used a very similar system in Memphis the other day and having never used a punch-button combination locker before I followed the sign and it worked perfectly and there were no issues. Not so much in Louisville. The signs are complex and contradictory. There are not many of the signs so I didn't even see one before I started using it. An old man told me how to work it and I did what he said and it immediately locked my stuff in without me entering a combination. I could not get to my stuff so I had to go all the way down at which point the guy at the desk told me that I could have just called him and the old man on the way out told me that this happens all the time and not to feel bad. Well I don't mean to be a jerk but if this happens all the time then there's a problem! Change the system LOL. The reason why it happens all the time is because these things just don't work very well. It's that simple. He told me that I could park for just a dollar in the garage across the street which I couldn't find in traffic, which was awful on all the streets near this Y, and didn't feel like carrying all my stuff from a different block anyway so I just use street parking which is freaking $0.25 for eight minutes which is absolutely freaking ridiculous. This is not New York City and in fact a lot of New York City has much more affordable parking than that. Ew. The actual equipment is pretty good and they have some nice mats and various different things that I could use and then there are other things that could be improved. Such as the bikes. And there was the whole locker room drama because apparently there's a lot of theft around here or at least people think there is so I was told not to leave my stuff in the locker room even for a couple of minutes unattended. The janitor guy actually came into the shower to tell me to come back and get my stuff. Pulled the curtain back on me naked in there, soaping up, and almost made me slip over while simultaneously having a heart attack. I appreciated the consideration and even gave me a 3 minute lecture about how things can go missing even with just a few seconds and he's absolutely right, in theory. But considering that I only spent 90 minutes here and then half of that time was dealing with drama, it wasn't really as appreciated as he meant it to be. The drama of the parking situation. The drama of the lockers that don't work properly. The drama of the shower warning. If you consider all of that then I think you'll consider four stars for this gym to be pretty generous. Should really be less, but the southern young gentleman checking me in and sorting out my locker was so nice, he carries the 4 star rating. But basically no workout for me because of dramaaaa. Next time I'll use one in a different part of the city.

But the best part by FAR is that they have Les Mills classes! Body Pump classes changed my life, and I was so worried I wouldn't be able to find them when I moved to Louisville. Thank you downtown Y for offering the one class that turned me from the self-conscious, lifelong physical therapy patient I was to the confident fitness junkie I never thought I could be.

Now, I'm not someone who sticks with a particular workout regimen, gyms are not my style. However, Barre3 is different. It is a combination of yoga, Pilates and barre founded by Sadie Lincoln. (Also a great listen on "How I Built This" on the origins of the company.) I've been coming here for 7 years. I've done community classes, I've bought class packages, I've done live steam and been in the studio. What I'm most thankful for is that this is a welcome, opening community. You are welcomed every time you come to the studio. Anyone is welcome to join. I've had friends join me who felt the body positivity during the class and felt welcomed. They frequently do community classes in locations like Paristown or at Work the Metal. I've enjoyed these classes too as an opportunity to share Barre3 with friends. In the spring/fall, they typically do class pack sales where I purchases classes so I can come and go as I can. I haven't done the monthly membership only because it is hard for me to go on workdays. The instructors (Abby, Mel, Kelly, Emily, Becca) have all been amazing. They have different styles and I workout something new every time. This community makes me happy and makes me feel like I belong. It has taken me so long to find a fitness community that does that for me. I came out of my first session with a whole new respect for those who practice Pilates on a regular basis. I was a little sore, but not in a bad way. Different muscles. After 48 hours I wondered what I had voluntarily decided to do. After 3 months, I am hooked. I feel the difference in general, but no longer have the aches and soreness after walking 18 or getting out of bed. I am usually the only guy in the class, and have never felt uncomfortable. I have experienced several instructors and each were good in their own way. Friendly, knowledgeable, and patient as they guided me through the first few weeks. I schedule my sessions with Sydney (Monday) and Brynna (Thursday) Whether intentional or not, they complement each other's workouts. 3 months in, and I can tell a dramatic difference in my overall fitness.

The business tells me I can cancel, and they will charge me for another 30 days of membership! That is over $577 of classes that I cannot use. Unheard of! I don't have that $$ to lose. Thank goodness I checked my bank statements and saw the charges. My last class was in October 2025. Horrible business plan. Do not recommend!!
