My only experience with a barre class was at the Northeast YMCA and based on the website clips, these classes looked much different. It was easy to create an account and I signed up for 3 classes throughout the week. For all classes you will need toe socks. The studio sells these but you can also find them at retail stores or Amazon. Toe socks come with toes, without toes or halftime toes. It's really personal preference. My check in on the first day was super friendly. The ladies at the counter greeted me, found my name on the list and had me sign a waiver. Heather is the owner of the studio and I seen her every day I visited for classes. She made each visit personal and checked in on me before and after class. I seen her do this for several people and my friend also expressed how much she enjoyed her (as a regular at the studio). Two of my classes were barre, taught be two different instructors so I got a unique experience. I love that! One class involved 2 or 3 lb weights and a small exercise ball while the other used a band to wrap around your calves or thighs. Other tools like stretch bands and weighted bars are there for other classes. My third class was called brawl and I had no idea when I walked in that's what I signed up for. It was a kickboxing class. It was intense and the class learned a routine that left us drenched. The studio is a rectangular room with padded floors, mirrors and a ballet bar. Music and temperature is controlled (and one class called burn turns up the temp to 85!). The instructors wear a headset and you can see them as the walk around or in the mirrors. The music is kept upbeat and loud, the lights are dimmed. It's a great atmosphere for you to concentrate on the class and your well being. Free lockers are offered and bathrooms in case you need to change clothes. Set up is limited so there's no need to get to a class super early, although it's nice to relax and get a few stretches in. Packages offer a variety of options. You can do an unlimited monthly or 4-pk monthly. You can also buy a group of classes that don't require a membership and can be used over 45 days. You do not have to commit long term because a 30-day cancellation is offered. Very nice. I highly recommend this studio. Try something new and be good to yourself!

Man, my body FELT it after the first visit!! But I really feel like these workouts are a great challenge and never have you leaving feeling like you didn't do enough. The current location is awesome... so spacious with so much equipment. Everyone is friendly and the staff is always so helpful, encouraging, knowledgeable, and will challenge you if need be. I've made several friends there as well, where we will hold each other accountable which also motivates you to keep going. Each day is a different designed workout for specific areas of the body with music playing through their systems. It's nice to not have to think about what you need to do at the gym that day or design your own workout or even try to push yourself. It's all there for you! They even have heart monitors you can check out/wear to track your heart rate and calories. The workouts: Sunday is core, Monday is total body, Tuesday is lower body, Wednesday is core & cardio, Thursday is upper body, Friday is a challenge day that will work your whole body, and Saturday offers an Advanced Camp, Yoga, and a free (with the donation of a canned good) :45 total body workout for anyone (that means non-members too). That free workout is called Get Fit Give Back. All the canned goods are then donated to Dare to Care. I love that they give back. The work outs are in :30 increments which helps members to stagger their start times. However, if you put two :30 workouts back to back, the hour will be all different... and then it will start over. I am rehabbing from a fractured…read morehip in late 2016--after almost 9 months on crutches (that caused 2 broken ribs to boot!), surgery, and tons of physical therapy, I was stuck in my recovery. A friend of mine who loves Pilates suggested I give it a shot and I am so glad that I did. I've been going twice a week since August and it has made a HUGE impact for me. I am starting feeling more balanced, developing a strong core, and having a lot less pain with daily activities. I won't lie, it's not cheap (these are private lessons) but it is 100% worth it to me to find something to help me quite literally get back on my feel and get moving again. There are 3 instructors and I've had them all. They all know a ton about body mechanics and can tailor your workout to address whatever issues you are having. They are also just nice people who made me feel very welcome even though I have serious weight issues and got very deconditioned during my recovery from my injury. They share notes on my sessions so there is great continuity no matter who I am seeing that day. The nitty gritty: The studio is well-equipped. There seems to be no end to the props and tools they find to help you get the most out of your workout. The studio is on the 6th floor across Michigan Avenue from the south end of Grant Park and there's a huge east-facing picture window with a spectacular view. Day or night, it's amazing. I drive to the studio and have not had any trouble finding street parking on either 11th or 9th streets (pay box is $4/hour). They use a convenient online appointment system that allows you to buy packages of classes, see your upcoming schedule, and make new appointments. In short, this place is the best. No more downward dog. After years of intermittently managing the illness, plus two kids and all the stresses associated with (*ahem*) "adulting," I finally decided to stop neglecting my health and get some help, before I lost more strength and joint function in my arms and wrists. I found Roots of Integrity because of its South Loop location. The studio is cozy and has a gorgeous view of the lake, which makes workouts feel very vital. I started with an intro/mixed package with Briana, and she worked with me to determine that Pilates was the right place to start. As an instructor, Briana is attentive, patient, knowledgable and a consummate professional.
