The entrance is kind of sketchy but once you get on the main road it's pretty straight forward. The road is paved, has gravel, and is ok for all types of vehicles. There are different paths that veer off of the main road that require 4x4 so keep an eye on which one you get on. They are super fun for off-roading if you're equipped for that kind of adventure. While the canyon is beautiful, Leslie Gulch is the real gem here. Take the time to drive through and soak in the beauty of all the rocks. When you get to the lake (if you can call it that anymore) relish in the fact that you can park your car on what used to be the bottom of the lake. There is no trash service so PLEASE pack it out!

Since moving to Boise I've heard people talk about Robie Creek in the context of the half…read moremarathon...what I didn't know was that it's also a dreamy little treasure where you can sunbathe and cool off! Just past Lucky Peak Reservoir about 15 minutes, you'll find a little turn out on the left hand side of the road that leads to Robie Creek. Head down that road for about 5 minutes and then you'll arrive! The nitty-gritty: This park has a humble little beach, buoys set in place that mark off where it is safe to swim, a small parking lot, restrooms and covered patios with picnic tables underneath. The fun stuff: What I love about this spot is that it is SO peaceful (at least, that's always been my experience here!). Its far enough out of town that you feel like you can disconnect from the busyness of life, but close enough that your car's gas tank won't hurt too bad from driving to it. My suggestion? Bring a paddle board with you and paddle out to the middle of the water, lay down on your board, and look up! The mix of the refreshing water, clear blue skies, cliffs surrounding the water, and lack of cell phone service out here on a hot summer day are like a little slice of heaven. Looking to get out in the sun and play in the water? Give this place a go- it's wonderful!

It is absolutely beautiful out on the lake, and the views can't be beat. Here are some thoughts/recommendations for your visit: -The dock is NOT the place to fish with young children. It sways back and forth and kids are likely to fall in if they aren't watched carefully! Also be careful- there is lots of bird and deer poop on the dock! -It's hard to guess what might make the fish bite. Salmon eggs seemed to attract the most fish, but we still only caught one. We tried worms and fishing cheese as well. -The playground is really fun for kids, but the grassy area is filled with poop that make it hard to walk safely -The parking is so close to the lake, which was awesome!! Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here, and would recommend a visit! It's not a terribly far drive from Boise, either.

If I had known about the bats, I would've visited sooner. This park has stocked ponds and fishing. I was there for almost 2 hours. All of these photos are taken in sequence with the intention of giving you a sense of what it's like to walk through the park and loop around to the sidewalk that runs down Maple, then re-enter the park and exit. There's a nice sandy beach where you can set up your things. If you need it there are shaded and unshaded picnic tables on the pavement and bike racks to lock up your bikes nearby. Lots of ducks and geese so watch for poop bombs but not that bad. Overall a clean park. We noticed scuba divers, fishermen, magnet fishers, kayakers, and lots of paddle boards. The water is pretty clear and clean and is on the cooler side. There are rentals available if you want to pick up a paddle board or bring your own. On the hot summer weekends, get there before 11am because there is little to no parking after noon.

The water was moving pretty good, if I had to guess somewhere around 1.75 to 2.5 mph, but I was still able to get a workout and my best Mile split time was returning in the current, I took a lot of pictures along the way. I paddle all over the country, and in many other countries, I like to record my Paddle, especially first time, and transfer it from my Garmin watch to the relive app. This app creates a video of the trail and any pictures taken along the way or Geos stamped on the trail while you watch the video. It's really amazing. This park was clean, self service for Park entry if the booth is closed. Nice restrooms. Apple parking and it was mowed later in the week so it really looked nice. First time at Sage Hen! We got here Friday afternoon at 2, the exact time to check in at the camp…read moresite. It's not really a far drive out (approximately just 2 hrs) but the rough road which started I think at Ola, Idaho made it long (about an hour; pls note we are pulling a trailer). Beautiful campground with a thick forest & wide lake! They have great bike trail/hiking trail along the river, not paved but it's an easy one that our 10 year old can follow! We also explored the oh so green forest! We did kayak in the river & swam. The lake is clean, several beach spots but not sandy, just muddy. Boats can only have a speed limit of 15mh, I think the river is just meant for a fishing boats, kayaks or paddle boards though there was a boat there that drove more than 15 mph. They have few camp sites so you need to reserve months in advance, husband did in February. No cell service & no internet/wifi was a plus, I think camping is meant to be like that, we disconnect to connect! No electricity, water & sewer hook ups, but we only stayed for 3 days & 2 nights that we were able to exhaust our water just right & filled our sewer just right. Overall a great camp out! We will definitely visit again!

There's walks along the water which has great views. You can also cross the bridge and do some hikes in the valley. Plenty of benches, picnic tables, and bathrooms. The hieroglyphic rocks were pretty cool but most are hard to see due to erosion over the years. We came in the winter so the park was almost empty! Must visit if you've never been. Great park for kids and pets.
