Pulled in here for a quick workout Paddle and was blown away by this great park. It's a perfect 5K (3.12 Miles) workout from the park down to the The secondary water control area. The water was moving pretty good, if I had to guess somewhere around 1.75 to 2.5 mph, but I was still able to get a workout and my best Mile split time was returning in the current, I took a lot of pictures along the way. I paddle all over the country, and in many other countries, I like to record my Paddle, especially first time, and transfer it from my Garmin watch to the relive app. This app creates a video of the trail and any pictures taken along the way or Geos stamped on the trail while you watch the video. It's really amazing. This park was clean, self service for Park entry if the booth is closed. Nice restrooms. Apple parking and it was mowed later in the week so it really looked nice. Lucky Peak State Park - Sunny lake days at Lucky Peak! - Hiking Near Me - Boise, Idaho

We've been to Lucky Peak State Park on several occasions. We've been to the sandy, beach area with the fountain. I would bring the kiddos there when they were younger, but in recent years they've had problems with the water being unsafe (ie: unsafe levels of E. Coli, etc). However, there's a whole lot more to Lucky Peak than that one small swimming hole. Most recently we brought paddle boards to enjoy an afternoon of swimming and paddle boarding. We were able to settle in a shady, grassy area with picnic tables nearby and easy access to the water. The water is cool and clean and, since we were there on a Tuesday, there was pretty much nobody nearby. We picnicked, paddle boarded, and alternately enjoyed the sunshine and the shade. We saw an owl, a huge white crane, and just pretty much enjoyed the lovely views. Get to it! read more

There are a few different parts to this park. The largest part is the reservoir and I've never taken a boat out on the water, so I can't speak much to it. Sandy Point Beach is the highlight of this park. It is a wide stretch of beach with plenty of room to spread out, even in the time of COVID. The parking lot is wide and long - you can easily find a spot close to where you want to park your stuff. There is a large fountain which helps keep the water moving. This water is pretty cold! It's fed straight from the reservoir which comes from the mountains. Another great part of this state park is the Discovery Point park which gives you access to the river. This is a favorite access point to paddleboarding, kayaking, and rafting, because the water is very calm and placid as it is between two sets of dams. You will need to pay $5 to park - bring cash! :) read more

We swam and played at the Sandy Point Beach for HOURS! The parking lot is close to the sand, there are relatively clean bathrooms, paddle boat rentals, and plenty of space to spread out, even on a holiday weekend! You do have to purchase a pass to enter, or already have the state parks pass. I assume they have more information on their website. There is goose poop all around the sand, but bring a rake and you'll be fine! Bring some shade, LOTS of water, and enjoy! The water is cold, but you can see some fish swimming by and it makes all the difference in the heat which makes it worth it. Great family-friendly activity. Enjoy! read more

Beautiful lake. Water is cold. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms were clean at boat launch.

This place is badly managed and badly organized. There is a charge for parking but no one works here and no one to help you. No life jackets availableon site. No lifeguard whatsoever and tons of kids in the water. This place is a tragedy waiting to happen. No place to rent an inner tube or kayak so it basically says to people on vacation you are not welcome here. But they sure are efficient at charging you to park here. read more

There are two different places you can post up at Lucky Peak, and each provides a different experience. One is to go to that cove area with the big fountain of water in the middle (Sandy Point). There they have paddle board rentals and all sorts of lake toys. The caveat is that you also have to pay for parking. This isn't my favorite spot, I'd give this area of the Lake 3 stars...it's always so crowded and just never feels very relaxing. However, just last week, I came to find that there is a whole other area where you can swim. It's scenic, less-crowded, and get this...you don't have to pay for parking! I'd rate this area of the Lake 5 stars. Since discovering this gorgeous lounging spot, this has become my go-to place to take a dip in the water, get a little sun-kissed-glow, and hide away by the water and read. Ahhh, it's glorious! (Maybe this part of the Lake isn't as hidden as I thought it was, but I just can't believe that after 6 years of living here I just discovered it?!) So how does one get here? Drive past Sandy Point. You'll then see to your left a reservoir-looking area and soon after that, you will see lots of boat trailers, turn left there and park in any of the parking lots (they also have street parking). Walk towards the lake and you'll see several sets of stairs that take you down to the water. And viola! You're there. Side note: this area of the Lake also has picnic tables, bathrooms, and BBQ's. Beautiful, serene, and a perfect little escape just a few minutes out of town. Check it out!! read more

As a Mom I think this place is great! Be aware if you don't buy the State park pass it's $7 cash to get in, have it ready for the little envelope and a pen to fill it out! The side with the fountain is great if you have littles learning to swim and last summer they were renting paddleboards and had life jackets available. I prefer the river part, entering/exiting is a little challenging but worth it because there's more shade available on the water. Bathrooms are always reasonably clean & grills and picnic tables are nearly always available. It's really a beautiful place to spend the day. See you there! read more

I have been to Lucky Peak a few times and I would rather go to Silver Creek Plunge. The more I have been to Lucky Peak the filthier it gets. I would highly suggest staying as far away from the lake as humanly possible. You will probably catch whatever is in there like a norovirus. The only plus side is that you do not need to pay a fee to come here. Other than that there really isn't anything good about coming here. read more

Only 8 miles from downtown Boise! Grab some takeout from your favorite fast food place off I-84 Exit 57, don't even get out of your car, use the drive-thru, on the way to Lucky Peak and don't be tempted to devour your grub in the car because you will want to have yourself a city picnic once you reach this super close in (to Boise) state park. This is a nice escape for a traveler or maybe even for the employees from the Micron campus up the road. In springtime you can watch the water surge from the huge tubes that jut out of Lucky Peak Dam; thankfully there are restrooms nearby because the sound of the rushing water is guaranteed to require a release of your own stream, sooner rather than later, especially after you guzzle your favorite sweet, super-sized, carbonated beverage. Wow, this place is as good as I heard folks from Micron told me. It is definitely beautiful. However, I visited Sandy Point which has an E Coli warning. At the gate, the attendant warned people of swimming in it. Still, children and adults were swimming in it. I just took a brisk walk from Sandy Point to Discovery Park. I also saw the boat launching area which does not have a fee gate but a deposit box for boat launching only. The Boise River is just amazing to see as you walk along it. Great for biking, walking, jogging, etc. Plenty of restrooms in both parks and your parking fee of $5 is valid in both parks requiring a fee. There are two dams which are nice to stop and take a look. However, I will be forever in awe of the ridge line with the sky. Within 10-15 minutes from Boise, you cannot beat this sort of nature excursion. Typically, I have to travel an hour to 3 hours from Philadelphia to see decent vistas. No problems here and I was able to catch my 5PM flight back to Philadelphia. read more

Camping with your own private cove with no fees! What?!? Yep it is true. We rolled in one summer Friday afternoon and got a camping spot with our own dock and private cove for the kids to play in. Note, this site is only accessible via boat. The campsite was clean and had shade. We had our own shaded picnic table and shared porta potty. Water is cold so be prepared for that. Fishing was great.
