Pleasantly surprised by this rental location. Melissa helped us and she was very sweet and patient with us. She took her time making sure our gears fit correctly and gave us recommendations for snorkeling areas to go to that would be more gentle since I'm pregnant. The store also made sure to adhere to covid protocol and only let 4 customers in at a time which made me feel reassured that they probably carefully disinfect and clean their gear before the next rental. Wonderful experience. We were well fitted-kids included. Ended up only needing rentals for one day vs the reserved two days and they were really nice about not charging us when we returned them early. It took a second for me and my husband to find the right prescription lenses for our goggles, and she kindly switched them out like it was no problem at all. She gave us a map of great diving spots and they were wonderful! Their prices are excellent, and if you're visually impaired like me, GET THE LENSES! We were in Hawaii and I had a tour scheduled and then my daughter got sick the night before. I needed to keep her in so I called the night before to let know. I left a voicemail as no one answered. The next day, they called to see if I was coming and I said no because my daughter is sick and that I had left a message. You have to be careful because of Covid. They said they didn't get a message from me so I can't get my money back! It was for 4 people!! The lady was very rude on the phone!! During Covid, people should be glad that you don't bring your sick kids!! I just want my money back, I'm a single Mom and don't have much money. read more

Terrible service. We came at the worst time, 8am, they had a bunch of tours coming in but we were not part of them. They shuffled us around until they dealt with the tours. It took them 15 minutes before they acknowledged us and then took another 10 mins for them to 'fit us' in the size. Another couple who came a while after were taken care of around the same time. It was also very expensive, $11 for the normal set, $15 for a better set for 1 day. The person fitting me didn't give us an option, she gave us the normal set and sent us on our merry way. read more

I needed to rent snorkel gear, and found this place on Yelp. Overall, they have everything you can imagine for snorkeling and scuba diving. I needed the snorkel for 4 days so he gave me the weekly rate (which was cheaper) with no flexibility on trying to bring the price any lower. I saw that there was a check-in offer that I mis-read at first. I thought you checked in and they give you something for free, but the offer is "Check-in and buy a tour for 2 and you'll get a beach bag or boogie board for the week." Although the guy who was helping me was nice, he kept trying to sell me on one of the numerous tours they have advertised. These tours aren't cheap either, you're looking at a minimum of $200 from what he showed me. I know people on the island get a nice kick back by selling these trips/tours, but don't keep trying to sell me on one when I've said no 8 times. Cheers! read more

I love Snorkel Bob's!!! Reliable, useful, clean, snorkel-gear at a great value! Included in the package were fins, a mask that didn't get saltwater in your eyes, a snorkel that didn't leak saltwater in your mouth, and no-fog solution-in a mesh carry-all bag to keep everything together. We didn't island-hop but there is an after-hours drop box on several islands, in addition to Oahu, so it is very convenient to rent your equipment in one location and drop it off at another, plus you don't have to worry about shifting your schedule around just to accomodate their business hours. The price was spot on, even the biggest penny pincher will be satisfied (that's me). You really can't beat the price, and we ended up with a week-long rental that didn't burn a hole in our pocket. I go to Snorkel Bob's when I need snorkeling gear, and I've always been satisfied. You have 24 hours from when you rent it. When you go in you can choose between three different price ranges. The cheapest it uncomfortable, water gets inside and it's cumbersome to swim with. The second is great. Doesn't fog as much, keeps the water out better and is easy to see with. The third is just for people who need magnification in their goggles (which I am in serious need of). I once tried to be cheap and swim without the extra magnification (despite being nearly legally blind in the State of Maryland) and I regretted it the entire day. I was just seeing dully colors blogs floating around until I was thisclose to them. It's worth the few extra dollars to be able to see and appreciate more of the fish and sea life. Once you get your gear, you're given a bag, anti-fogging goop (which works really well and you just need a little) and a card that shows you the types of fish you can see around the island. You get a combination that allows you to turn in the gear even if the store is closed by the time you are done for the day (which they probably will be). Tie everything together and dump it in, and you're done. It's simple and the gear has never given me problems. It's cheaper and better quality than renting from Hanauma Bay itself, though I could understand if it's a bit of a hassle for someone not familiar with the area to return. If you're coming from Waikiki, go to the Waikiki Zoo. Go straight (away from the beach) and you will eventually come to a Zippy's on your right. Keep going another block and Snorkel Bob's will be on your left. The Jack in the Box will be on the right. It's an intersection, so you shouldn't miss the turn. read more

I am so glad we stopped here prior to going snorkling. We rented snorkles, and since I did not bring contact lenses, they provided me with a prescription snorkel. My wife and I had a great time, and as opposed to traveling with our own flippers and snorkel kit, it was nice to dump it off on someone else once we were finished. Although we washed off the equipment, they took care of the rest. If you're traveling to Oahu, I recommend renting as opposed to buying your own, unless you're an avid snorkler. I don't have anything bad to say about Snorkel Bob! This was my second time using their rental equipment and was my second time being completely satisfied with their service and equipment. This was my first time going to the Waikiki location and it was pretty easy to find. We got there right when they opened so it wasn't crowded and made it less of a wait to hit the beach! The guy who helped us was very informative and showed us where to go on a map along with what to expect. The equipment was in good condition and they provide everything you need to go snorkeling. I like to opt for the yellow floaty as I like to float around and let that hold me up but others in my group went old school and didn't get one. We also upgraded to the better mask and glad to have made that choice. You even get solution to keep your mask from fogging up. They also have prescription masks for eye glass wearers. We came here to rent snorkeling gear for Hanauma Bay. Dee was so incredibly helpful in giving us pro tips (go before 7AM and you don't have to pay admission or parking) and was so patient with us when we were indecisive. Rentals are very reasonably priced, especially compared to Hanauma Bay and they have multiple flotation options. We got the Ultimate Truth package and flotation vests (incredibly useful). You get the gear for 24 hours and for returns, they have a drop off bin for gear if you drop off outside of business hours. The parking lot is pretty small but there was plenty of parking when we went close to their closing time during the week. We'll definitely come back next time. Living in Honolulu, we snorkel a lot, but every face mask that I purchased had to be strapped tightly on my head so it wouldn't let water in. Not only did they all give me a headache and leave a red ring on my face, they all started leaking after a few uses! As I had bought a great pair of fins at Snorkel Bob's a few years ago, I went there again, knowing they are the place that would have the correct mask and snorkel that I need. Dee was extremely knowledgeable and understood what I needed. She helped me find a mask that fits my face, doesn't leak, and is comfortable, too! I also purchased a MOFL O2 snorkel that provides much better oxygen while snorkeling [it was only a few $$ more than a conventional one]. I find it extremely helpful to be able to rent just about anything you would need for a vacation in Hawaii. I did just that. I had reserved the equipment online prior to arriving. We arrived on a Monday at around 8:30am to pick up our gear. Well, apparently everybody and their brother did the same. There was only ONE guy there. Eventually, other staff arrived but it took them some time to "clock in" and help the customers. Walk in's take priority over reservations done online. It's really a first come, first serve. This one location on Oahu could use more staff. We waited a good 30 minutes on the carpeted benches before we were helped. Having done it online prior provided no real times savings and I would recommend you not waste the time. It might make you feel better, but they had not set our gear aside for us based on this reservation. They just grabbed from the masses. All of the equipment was of good quality or better. No qualms there. The return process was routine and uneventful. I guess my only beef in the initial check in process. I ended up returning some equipment before the full week was over and got a credit. I also took some of the equipment to another island and returned it there. That was also convenient. I would rent from these guys again, but I'm going at a different time than everybody else. read more

The staff was very knowledgeable and we rented some fins as well as a wetsuit. We brought our own snorkel masks from California which worked well so we didn't bother with goggles or a breathing tube. We have rent Split dry snorkel set, normal snorkel set and a wetsuit at Dec 26th. The equipments are good, the price is nice. The only thing I'm not satisfied and even feel a little angry is the staff who processed our order looks like not professional. She spent quite long time for previous customer (only two people there for her, we have already wait for 1 hour and a half. The professional stall is helping a group which has 5 people) then our turn, she forgot to give us the bottle used to remove fog. We're new to snorkeling and kind of run out of time. Did not check the receipt carefully. So when we returned the equipments at the same day, the other staff mentioned there is no bottle. We mentioned we never received the bottle. She did not give any response. If she disagreed, she could say it and we could have a conversation. But she said nothing but charged me the price after I came back in Seattle. What an awful experience there! The money is not a big deal but how the handle these things makes me fell terrible. This is my favorite place in Hawaii to pick up snorkel gear. Whether I'm in Maui or O'ahu, Snorkel Bob's team of amazing staff is customer service of legend; always nice, always helpful in packaging me with best rates, and will even throw in a discount on your birthday, talk about Aloha. This review, however, is all about Nick, he is the young man that assisted us when we arrived on island last Saturday. As soon as we walked in Nick, greeted us like family he had been excitedly anticipating all day. He pulled our reservation right up, not that you need one, walk ins are always welcome. Seeing that it was my birthday he even gave us a better set of flippers, no additional charge and proceeded to inquire what we were up to for swimming. Nick, threw in some of his favorite spots, one of which I hadn't been to during previous trips and even gave us a great hiking spot to check out with some of the islands best views. Upon return, Nick happened to be there again and he didn't forget who we were, asking us how we enjoyed the lighthouse hike. That made us feel special, as we knew he had seen so many other families in the span of the week that we last saw each other. We thanked him for the suggestions and even shared our shark encounter, which was so cool. (Not a big shark, it was a white tip reef shark-about 3 feet long) Thank you so much Nick, for making us feel like family, for being the best part of O'ahu and for showing us that Aloha spirit. Terrible customer service, we were coming from Maui renting equipment at a different store where we had an excellent experience, and were expecting the same from this store...and sadly we got exactly the opposite. First of all, we had a reservation which the attendant couldn't find, then she took her time, and she gave the equipment to another couple who came after us first! Then she said that we could just drop the equipment off on the 24 hour Express Return window when returning it, without having to wait in line with people picking it up, she even said we should include the receipt which we kept, and that is what we did following her advise, and mind you that the window even says "24 hour Express Return", and when we were leaving she came out the door and went on a tirade, and threatened us that she will contact us if there was anything wrong with the equipment, because we were not supposed to return it that way! Why would she advise us to do so, then?! So rude, and unprofessional. I will not recommend you go to this business, save yourself the aggravation, and rent your equipment where you would be treated like the valued customer you are. read more

Dec 15 2020 First came here years ago (in the mid 80s) and whenever i need rentals for visitors or friends who thought they might be interested in snorkeling- - In my opinion Bob's is still the best spot for a huge variety of quality rental equipment at fair prices. The staff bend over backwards to help you find what you need and don't push a sale or rental. If you're new to the island they give you good info based on your experience. My grandson wants to try snorkeling but wears glasses - they set him up with exactly what he needs to see clearly and now we're ready to go! You can waste your time driving all over the island, but for us, it's worth the drive from Kailua to Kapahulu (just over from the zoo and the Ala Wai Canal) to get what's right the first time and BOBs always seems to have it! read more

Flippers move smoothly, masks fits nicely! We came here around 4:45pm (15 minutes before closing). There was another party that was before us so by the time we got our gear, it was around 5:20pm. I thought it was super generous for the woman who was helping us to stay after closing hours to help us! Will definitely be back! Also, go for the second tier masks and tube! Keeps water out! We were expecting a better experience since we have used other Snorkel Bob's on other islands. The whole ordeal took 1hr and 15 mins to rent a pair of fins and we were second in line. We ended up having to cancel our snorkeling plans because of the time it took. They were only allowing 4 people in at a time because of Covid, which I agree with, but they had 1 worker making the wait times insane. Once inside another worker came out to help but ended up leaving us to help the people after us who ended up leaving first. Although they have a 24/7 drop box for returns, they rope off the parking lot after hours. I had to park at the Jack-in-the-Box across the street and reach over a sleeping homeless man to return the fins. The actual gear was pretty beat up but served its purpose. If you get anti-fog, you have to return the bottle, which they don't say until after you are charged. Don't make the same mistake I did, rent the day before you need the gear or avoid this location. read more

I would recommend Snorkel Bob's for their budget prices and convenient return drop box. It's a great deal to be able to rent a mask, snorkel, and fins for $10 for an entire week. Unfortunately, I felt very unwelcome with the service we received. The worker helping us when we went to pick up the rentals was very short with our group. She told us that the budget snorkels were very bad and leaked all the time. She kept encouraging us to get the more expensive snorkels ($28 or $38 for the week) even after we made it clear that we wanted the budget sets. Similarly, when returning the snorkels, another worker seemed frustrated when she needed to repeat her directions for us. We had some questions about the return that she answered in a curt and incomplete manner. The budget snorkels served well for our needs. They did leak a little for a few people, but it did not lessen our casual snorkeling experiences (Hanauma bay and north shore). We could easily clear our masks. They were better than the $20 snorkel I had from Walmart, and much cheaper than the $20 per day rentals at Hanauma bay. Granted, we did not do much diving, so maybe the more expensive snorkels would have been better for this. However, for the everyday tourist who will spend most of their time in the surface of the water just observing the sea life, I would definitely recommend getting the budget snorkel kit. I would recommend Snorkel Bob's only for their reasonably priced budget snorkel rentals for tourists who just want to see some fishies and turtles. For more hard core adventures, like spear fishing, or if you would like to book a tour, I would think another place might be more helpful and offer more friendly and complete service. read more
