Went to snow valley for a skiing/snowboarding school field trip. Everyone was welcome on this field trip from people who have no experience to people who have been skiing/snowboarding for most of their life. At the beginning of the trip everyone was required to take lessons for an hour no matter skill level, after we completed this we would be allowed to free ski on designated hills based on skill level ( which some thought was inaccurate). Now here is the first of many issues we experienced, the instructors were unclear, rude and dismissive of the students. Some of many incidents include an instructor bumping into a student at full speed without apologizing or stopping to help in any way, this student was injured and lost a ski. The rules here were unclear and the instructors, without stating any of them, just expected us to know them all, and if they were stated, it was after a mistake was made by a student, or a student was yelled at because the rule was not addressed beforehand. I feel if I was an adult I would have been treated with more respect, not rushed, pushed, or yelled at. Only two of many instructors that I interacted with were kind and helpful, I wasn't able to catch their names but it's good to know that at least two people were genuinely good, still that's not a good ratio. As for general safety, when it was free time all the instructors left so students had no supervision. Students who shared their concerns or injuries to the instructors either got ignored or dismissed. They didn't check the skill levels on the tags that stated what hills they were permitted to ski/snowboard on, so students could go on improper hills and levels for their skill range. Multiple student's skis got taken by someone without the student or instructor's knowledge. And for cleanliness, oh boy. A lady just did 2 sprays of cleaning spray and was done, I don't know if this is normal, she did this for helmets and in the ski boots and called it a day, no inspection, no wiping down the boots, nothing. I lost my sock in the boot and thank goodness I noticed because the next person to get those boots would have found a sock, gross. When we got our proper shoes back they were thrown down with zero regard to students' belongings. The whole rental experience was awful. There was poor communication between everyone instructor-instructor instructor-student student-student throughout the day (mainly because students were unaware of what to do). It was a very stressful experience. Many students cried, and had panic attacks, I am aware of a student who was grabbed by the arm against their will while being upset. This is not something that I and many others want to see when skiing no matter what level or experience we are at. I am speaking on behalf of many students when I say that the day was confusing, stressful, anger inducing, and BAD. I do want to say that yes, it probably was a stressful day for the instructors because some kids can be jerks but I feel that when you sign up for that job you should be ready for anything without yelling, and being rude. Im not telling you not to come im just informing you of my experience and what you are spending your money on. read more

Snow Valley has made a fan out of me! My 5 year old daughter has taken lessons for the last two years at Sun Ridge in Edmonton. We came to Snow Valley for the first time last weekend with my daughter's school. For $25, we were provided ski equipment (skis or snowboard, helmets, etc.) and an hour lesson. I had NEVER skied before and my hubby hadn't been since an unfortunate experience in 5th grade. Check-in was at 6:30 pm and the slopes closed at 10:00 pm. Our beginner instructor, Nicholas, was well worth the wait (30 minutes). He even checked back in on us later on in the evening. I'll admit we were lucky with our instructor but he sure made us feel welcome and never made me feel bad for falling on the magic carpet and needing help off a couple if times! Skiing, no problem. Child-safe magic carpet, not so much! That thing was my nemesis but the staff were there to help me each time I bit the dust. While Snow Valley likely seems small to an avid skier, it was perfect for my family! I really liked how you could see all the runs from bunny to black diamond from the main grounds when you exit the chalet. I will definitely chose Snow Valley next year for our family's lessons. read more

I am kind of embarrassed to admit it... the last time I was at Snow Valley was probably two decades ago... I can't believe it's been so long but I am very glad I have come back into the light! We went for an evening (6:30-9) which costs $15. They have two chairlifts, the magic carpet lift which you stand on (no idea what they're called), a bunny hill, the nice skiing hills, and a couple of trick areas. All the staff were awesome and the hill was in great condition. There were people of all ages skiing and snowboarding. The parking lot was pretty crazy when we got there (we had to park in overflow) but it definitely didn't feel packed on the hill. We got quite a few runs in within the time. If you're looking for a fun winter activity within our fine city, I would definitely recommend checking out Snow Valley!! read more

I took ski lessons at Snow Valley when I was a kid - everyone did, it was through the schools. I have to say, at that age I was impressed with everything they had. Today, I've been back and I'm far from impressed with Edmonton's ski hill. Anyone who enjoys skiing or takes it somewhat seriously (as a hobby or competitively) knows that Snow Valley doesn't have much to offer. I'm not a very good skier anymore and I was bored with Snow Valley only half an hour in. Everything is very basic and elementary. There aren't many options out there for skiing in Edmonton so unfortunately, we're stuck with it. I just have a hard time knowing that with all the snow we get and how freaking cold it gets here, that we can't build a better option for skiers. Thankfully, BC is not too far away. And trust me, it's worth the drive. Kicking Horse is the place to go! read more

I came here for a holiday party recently. And it was a lovely experience. The indoors space accommodated our group really well. We rented skis and went out skiing and were the first people on the hill for our private party in the evening. I enjoyed skiing down a hill and the chair lift was pretty good in general. The ski conditions seemed good to me (I'm out of practice, really). I fell once and the staff member's help getting going again was really great! Everyone was really helpful and I'm glad I had the experience. This hill was about my speed given how rarely I go out skiing. read more

Snow Valley is a great place for people to learn to ski or snowboard. It is NOT somewhere to come hoping for a great time if you are already a good at it. They offer up lessons and they are really helpful for beginners. If you already know what you are doing, Snow Valley is a great place to come to brush up your skills before hitting the mountains. You can get in some good practice runs when the season starts so that you don't have any rust when you hit the big times. It is a great place for people who want to take these winter sports and it is an awesome place for kids. read more

I came here to try the aerial park right beside snow valley. It was an amazing place where kids of a certain height and adults can enjoy. Do check the website for future details and reservation. Personally I wouldn't recommend this park for young children as it is very risky however its up to the parents. The obstacles go from easy to advance so people can choose. read more

I'm writing this review - not on the ski hill, rather on Snow Valley Ski Club as an event space! I'm an event planner in Calgary, and really wish I always had this level of customer service! The staff here is unbelievable - excelled at all aspects of hosting my niece's wedding. Danny's customer service is second to none. So accomodating and resourceful. The venue upstairs is beautiful, the food was fantastic. I really can't say a bad thing about the entire day/evening. If you're thinking of this venue for your special day - don't give it a second thought... BOOK IT!!! read more

Snow valley is a neat ski area located a stone's throw away from the south campus of U of A. Not big, by any stretch of imagination, but perfect for the learning skier or snowboarder. It's of course a very standard and flat slope, without much contours etc., but I like this place a lot just for the learning aspect. I see a lot of decent deals and packages for families, which makes it a great, affordable ski area. I particularly like this place because as a learner I find it very conveniently located, within city limits - perfect for the urban boy in me, that's always trying to find outdoor things to do in the city. Certainly, as an early ski learner, I would recommend this place. The chalet area is decent sized with a small fast food counter. Not the best food to eat, but certainly okay given that most patrons live like 10 mins drive away. The hot chocolate is actually quite terrible and I wish, for the sake of all the snow that's giving a formidable fight out there, that snow valley would actually improve the quality of the hot choc. All in all, a great weekend pastime. They have reasonably priced rentals and have 50% off on rentals and area pass on Friday nights, for the daring few who'd choose a night of skiing over other Friday night activities! read more

Simply the worst ski experience I've ever had. Had to wait for 45 mins to get a lift ticket yesterday. Then after an hour when I was actually on the hill, they didn't have one of their two lifts open. It was operational but they didn't have enough staff to let people use it. What a joke. I didn't wait in line to get a refund, I just left disappointed. When I emailed to complain they didn't offer a refund or a complimentary pass, just made excuses. read more

Came here for snowboarding lessons while on a trip in Edmonton visiting family. There were six of us learning how to snowboard for the very first time and by the end of the day we were all able to snowboard more or less. That's pretty good I think! Especially since people kept telling us that it took some time to pick up. The instructors were very patient and helpful. The lessons were a little shorter than I expected and there wasn't too much hands on training, but I think it's more or less something you have to practice again and again. When we finally hit the bigger slope, it was a lot better snow and it wasn't as slushy as the rabbit hill. Definitely a spot for the beginners. My cousin who lives in Edmonton said it's pretty cheap in pricing too. When you get lessons, you get a free pass to come back. I was pretty bummed that we didn't have enough time to come back. But of course experienced snowboarders like the bigger hills in the mountains anyway. read more

It may only take 6-8 seconds to get down the hill at snow valley, but for in the city skiing it's pretty awesome. My favorite feature is their twilight special. $10 gets you skiing from 7-9pm Monday to Friday. Pretty great deal to take the kids out or just warm up your skis before a trip to the mountains. I am confident that I will be doing lots of night skiing there this year with deals like that. read more

For being right IN Edmonton, I think this is the best bang for the buck when you just want to get some runs in, feel the snow and the cold and have a good time... Is really good to get some extra practice in too! They have some great evening rates, and the special on Friday night! I would recommend checking them out.... Sure, Snow Valley is best know for it's ski hill and snowboarding areas, but did you know there is also a campground here and some pretty beautiful trails too? I only discovered this when my boyfriend insisted we go somewhere nice for a walk with our dog one day. Not around the neighbourhood, not downtown, somewhere "nice" and "nature-like." He started to research area parks and trails and came across this one by Snow Valley. We drove down to the packed area and noticed that they had a campground. It was really weird to see in the middle of the city, but I like the idea of it. The campground was actually pretty nice too, but they didn't allow dogs, so we couldn't walk around there. We found a trail leading away from Snow Valley and explored it. The area was so beautiful and we were covered in a canopy of trees. I can't wait to walk around here in the summer and explore the area when it won't be filled with avid skiers and snowboarders! read more

I went to Snow Valley with my children on the 23rd of February. The lady at guest services was accommodating and very helpful! I was renting skis and helmets for my 2 children. When I got to the helmet desk the girl that "helped" me was extremely rude. She went over my waiver and proceeded to give my children helmets. I put them on and they were visibly too big, I asked her if they could try different helmets on and she rolled her eyes and said that they looked fine. I then asked her again to change the helmets and she scoffed in my face! After we finally got our proper helmets and the rest of my children's equipment, I went back to ask her if I could speak to her manager and she told me they were not there. I then wrote down her name in my phone. Her name was AVRY. I am extremely appalled by the outrageous behaviour I've experienced from her, no one should ever have to deal with that especially with their children present. I enjoy Snow Valley and was a regular costumer. I will not be returning! I am very disappointed by the service I received. I hope the appropriate measures are enforced so no one ever has to deal with this poor behaviour again. read more

This place is not that big but it is great place for skiers and all levels. You will have a great here at snow valley. Me and my friends always go skiing at this place because the snow is perfect. Snow Valley is not as icy as rabbit hill. They are always perfect snow for skiing read more

My daughter came here with school - I guess I should have known better than to have her rent equipment here, but I thought it would be easiest since she was just skiing one day. Big mistake!! She's an advanced skier and they would NOT supply her with poles... What a joke!. We ski many times a year in the mountains and it's ridiculous to imagine paying what I did for rentals, only to have them deny her part of the equipment. read more

The hill itself was quite nice and smooth but it wouldn't take more than 30 seconds to get down to the bottom. The staff's attitude though wasn't great. They weren't welcoming or friendly. Also I saw when a couple of kids had fallen down just on a trail the staff who were there rode right past them. Still had a pretty good experience nonetheless. read more

Love coming here with the family!!such a great way to spend those long winter months!! The facility is clean and the hill is well groomed!! I enjoy seeing my kids switch back and forth between boarding and skiing!! Well worth the money you spend on the pass and family rentals!! On January 1, 2016 I took my excited 7 year old son to ski for the second time on the bunny hill expectantly for ONLY the last two hours of the day. Already having completed the waiver at 2pm, we stood in line from 2:45pm to 3:15pm to get tickets (because they refused to sell them before 3:00pm) and then stood in line until 4:00pm to get a helmet and skis. The poor folks who stood in line for boots and skis got an even poorer deal! My son finally got one hour's worth of skiing while also battling the lineup for the carpet lift. The bunny hill was obstructed by snowboarders who totally obliviously sat in the middle of downhill, because snowboarding is inevitably more difficult and they fell more often and struggled to get up - they had to be reminded to move to the far side or out of the way of adult and children skiers who did not yet have full control and who hesitated to ski because of them. It was a very expensive ($26.00) one hour ordeal and one hour of some pleasure to encourage a 7 year old to take up skiing as a sport. To say the least, lots of people were ticked off. If it weren't for my son, I would have given up out of sheer frustration and left. There are plentiful easy and affordable solutions to these issues. The facility is wonderful, but the "last two hours" product and service, and the beginner snowboarders in the middle of a ski hill need to be addressed. read more
