8/2/19 SnoWhat truck at the Vegan Night Market
Ellyse L.

[8/2/19 update] What to get: hand-picked raspberry Time food arrived: 1-2 mins Vibe: Food truck dessert ==The Food== Since this was in their food truck and not their store, I'm sure they have a more extensive menu. Still, with the flavors they did offer made with fresh ingredients, they still knocked it out of the park! ++Lavender Lemon Shandy (special)++ This was for a fundraiser and was a collaboration with False Idol's beer and their own lavender lemonade flavor. Initially, the flavoring is still at the top portion, but the longer you wait, the more it sinks to the bottom. I tasted the beer a little at first, but later I didn't detect it anymore. Lavender lemonade is already a lighter flavor, so don't expect it to be overly sugary with a strong artificial flavor like a slushy. Pro tip: if you let it melt a little bit, the slush has more of the flavor in each spoonful than eating it all from the top down. ==The Service/Staff== I love how the owners came out and asked us about our thoughts on the special since it was an experiment. Having a direct conversation with customers and earnestly looking to improve while experimenting shows me how much potential they have to continually grow. Keep it up! ==For Next Time== #1. I need to go to their store. #2. I must get the hand-picked raspberry. I tried a friend's and it tastes like you're eating chilled/icy jam. It left quite the impression that I'd recommend it without having ordered it myself.

The wonder of a warm day, combined with the cool sweetness of a New Orleans-style Snoball? Yes, please. This is a food truck to follow. Prices are fair for the volume of deliciousness received. We ordered the Rainbow Ball, which comes complete with whipped cream on top, giving it that extra creamy yum everyone loves. Staff is friendly and helpful, and will even let you taste. With a full variety of flavors...sweet, salty, spicy, creamy...you'll want to try them all.

Many great Flavors

The line for SnoWhat was more than 10 people deep during one point of the Buy Local Fair. "SnoWhat???" you might ask. "SnowYeah!!!" I'd respond! Those people knew what was up, and the wait was worth it. I say this because I was one of those lucky, patient people. As I edged closer, I got a better look at the flavors for SnoWhat's signature New Orleans-style snowballs. The flavors included "all natural flavors," which are made especially by SnoWhat, like cucumber lime, strawberry, key lime pie, Southern sweet tea, bourbon ball, pineapple cilantro jalepeno and watermelon basil. The "classic flavors" included some fun finds like Georgia peach, red hot, butter beer, vanilla orchid and even dill pickle. And then you can get free toppings like sweet cream chocolate sauce, as well as free samples. After chatting with the ladies behind SnowWhat, I decided to go with watermelon basil with some sweet cream, and I'm still craving more today. Considering this is pretty much a high-end Snow Cone or Hawaiian ice, it's largely water, which makes it seem light to eat. It was refreshing without weighing you down, like ice cream can sometime make you feel. And despite the line, it went fast. I got a medium, which was rather large, and cost $5. Oh, SnoWhat, please bring your punny biz to an event I'm going to soon. I will definitely seek out some more of your fabulous snowballs!

SnoWhat does Forecastle!!

I seriously thought I had already written a review for SnoWhat... but apparently I did not. Time to change that! I'm that kind of girl who likes to eat snow. No, not yellow snow. But I love just about anything soft, fluffy, and icy. Add some delicious, HOMEMADE flavors to that... and you've got SnoWhat's amazing snoballs. I seriously think I could eat them all day. I haven't had a flavor I didn't love. They're refreshing and great for a hot day. I love the fruity ones, but the "adoraball" (birthday cake with the cream and sprinkles on top) is just so... adorable! SnoWhat can be found all over town; follow them on social media to get the scoop! They set up stands and also have a truck. I've had them at The Flea Off Market, Forecastle Festival, outside Revelry, the Buy Local Festival, and anywhere in between. They'll also do private events if you want to treat your guests to something really tasty!! The ladies behind the balls are also freaking awesome and so much fun! You really cannot go wrong with these treats!

sugar-free blue raspberry with rainbow sprinkles (pretty much the definition of summer fun)

SnoWhat is a delightful traveling shaved ice dispensary, handily available at summertime events near you. They offer a wide variety of flavors, including several sugar-free options for those who want to enjoy a sweet treat without the calories. As an added bonus you can choose a freebie, such as cream, sour spray, chocolate or caramel sauce, or rainbow sprinkles to your icy ball without any extra charge. The customer service is top notch; you can tell they really enjoy what they do (honestly, who wouldn't?). The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the price - $4 for a small, which seems a little steep for a cup of ice with flavoring, even if it IS pretty amazing.

First time here and I found a new spot to come to in the summer and winter too!! Love it's cute little place and all the different flavors they have!!

Butter Beer, for the win!

Kathy brought me here after the Pride March across Louisville's lovely downtown. SnoWhat is a marvelous food truck dedicated to an icy treat that isn't quite a snow cone but a whole lot better. Never has putting balls in my mouth been such a great experience. They had all sizes, super tiny, small, medium, large enough to make your mother blush. They also had amazing and unique flavors. They have the size balls you want in your mouth, they have the flavor you're craving. I was going to get the pickle flavor (because it was pride, pride = pickles) but went with butter beer because, as a Hogwarts alum, I am nostalgic for school days. It really brought me back. Also, the service was great. Food trucks are either on point or the worst thing you've ever experienced. I do not regret this experience one bit. These ladies are wonderful and I wanted to put all of their balls in my mouth. If you see this truck stop what you're doing, throw the food in your had on the ground, and put their balls in your mouth. You'll thank me later.

Strawberry and blackberry lemonade

I love that they have a location by my tennis center. This is a great way to cool off after a hot match. I was excited to try this fun destination and I was pleasantly surprised by their array of flavors. Specifically the homemade natural options. I got strawberry and blackberry lemonade and the winner was the strawberry. Go try them out! They have something for everyone's taste buds.

I just ADORE all things SnoWhat!!!! I have been visiting their booth at Flea Off Market for months and look forward to my SnoWhat all month long!! We have tried so many but personal favorites include the butter beer, champagne, and tigers blood. And as many of you any know... You can't just get a SnoWhat without condensed milk!!!! My sweet boyfriend is from New Orleans and is a picky man when it comes to all things snow cones. And he has become a HUGE fanboy. Bravo ladies for the spectacular eats and fabulous customer service and conversation each and every time we visit!!!

SnoWhat is now present in a home location and it's very exciting! The new space has parking available and is close to the zoo. There is seating inside and I love the colors on the walls. This isn't your typical snowball experience. SnoWhat offers unique flavors that are delicious, like earl grey lavender, lemonade lavender, vanilla cupcake, and butterbeer. You can also get beer flavors as well! They do have toppings as well. I recommend this spot for a sweet treat anytime but especially on a warm day. They do have a cup you can purchase for your SnoWhat Snoball and when you return with it, you pay for a small and get a large!

Nothing makes a kid happier than flavored cold stuff with sprinkles and glitter
Michelle W.

I love love LOVE snow cones, so when I just happen to glance over at this little bitty shop whilst leaving the zoo, I thought, "What better way to cool off the kiddos and myself than with a flavored ball of snow?" And I was right. The flavors were so many to choose from, it was overwhelming! I settled for the regular good old fashioned rainbow one so as not to injure my brain with too much thinking on such a hot day, and the super nice guy behind the counter absolutely made my daughter's life by adding rainbow glitter to her cone. Oh my heavens. The place was tiny but sufficient, the cost was not unreasonable, but please for all that is holy and good watch out for that parking lot! I had a hard time navigating parking in my mom-mobile, so much so that I wondered if it was really worth the trouble or if I should just forget it and get slushies at the gas station instead. It was worth it. No more slushies after the zoo.

I have been dying to try SnoWhat since they opened and started slinging their delicious sounding sno ball flavors around town. Well, I finally tried it this weekend, & man was it worth the wait! Their flavors are phenomenal! They have a long list of them displayed on a brightly colored board outside their tent. I tried Butter Beer, Bourbon Ball, Southern Sweet Tea, and Georgia Peach. I had my large peach sno ball topped with sweet cream, because doesn't peaches & cream sound amazing on a scorching summer day? Plus, all toppings are free, so go ahead and get your cream (or chocolate) on! I can tell you right now, the next time I hit up SnoWhat I'll be having a large Southern Sweet Tea, no questions asked. It may be the best sno ball flavor I've ever tasted! (And I'm a Tiger's Blood shaved ice girl through and through!) I highly recommend checking out SnoWhat if you see them at an event around town. You will not be disappointed!

Let me say I am impressed with the food and options available for selection. I purchased the po'boy and crab mac-n-cheese. I immediately fell in love with the crab mac. The crab cake with crunchy bits were delcious. The mac-n-cheese was smooth and creamy. As for my fish po'boy I love the different flavors of spices with each and every bite. My favorite aspect of this sandwich was the pretzel bun. Crazy huh, with all of the ingredients I was a bit concerned if I would have a soggy bun with my to-go order. There were a few things that you should keep in mind. At they moment they are not equipped for to-go orders. My food was covered in foil. They had clam chowder on the menu and they were covering the bowls with foil. Once I saw that I did not order the clam chowder, really no lids for the bowls. Some people had foil blowing right off their food as they grabbed their orders. Finally, it is hard to track the food truck around town. I have been in town for a few days and it is hard to find them if they do not post on social media.

Now, I know that "vegan" doesn't necessarily equate to "bland and flavorless." But V-GRITS revels in making what should be a carnivorous dish deliciously meat and dairy free. I mean, V-GRITS makes one mean hot brown. This is a dish normally comprised of an open-face turkey sandwich with bacon and a cream-filled Mornay sauce. This is the antithesis of vegan. But, with a little witchcraft and some gastronomic know-how, V-GRITS pulls this off. And this omnivore would eat it any day and put it up against any of the other hot browns in town. Another great dish is the Loaded Mac And Cheese. Be warned: This is some spicy mac, but it's so good. It is a heaping helping of creamy mac and cheese topped with BBQ, "Classy Sassy sauce," parsley, and "bacon." And it's vegan. Crazy, I know. Kristina's truck has definitely made a big impact on the local food truck scene. I also love the story behind how it came about: Kristina chose to use her winnings from "Cutthroat Kitchen" -- she's the first vegan winner, BTW -- to make it happen. Love it! V-GRITS does so much right. I get excited whenever I see its orange truck at events!

I actually came in contact with them when they were setup at one of my daughters cheer gym showcase nights. Pretty typical food truck that when out and about has a more condensed menu. At the event we were at they had about 5-6 options. I personally went with a chicken Philly sandwich. I'm not a big peppers and onions guy so I asked for it without. Im gonna assume they stuff these sandwiches with those toppings because my sandwich was very sad looking and the buns swallowed what chicken. And sauce I did have. The chicken had pretty good flavor and I did like the sauce. Just wasn't much substance. My wife got the chicken Thai queasadilla which is a cool an unique take over a classic chicken quesadilla. She was very happy with here Choice and said it was good. Had a smidge of a kick but it added to the flavor. My daughters went with a dessert. They have a Monster ice cream chocolate chip cookie which is a giant cookie with vanilla ice cream on top. They seemed satisfied with that and said the cookie was very good. Overall pretty solid food truck with some unique and diverse options. Always nice to come across a food truck with varying and different food selections.
