I've been anticipating the opening of this location for months. I'm so happy they are up & running for business. I love that this is your classic shave ice & not the snow cone pellets. SnoWhat also offers their "extras" for FREE... sour spray, sprinkles, & cream to name a few. I alway enjoy getting half cherry & half blue raspberry flavors. I look forward to trying some of their unique flavors they make in house. They have sections for seating inside & a great picnic table out front. Hoping for extended hours this summer. We arrived 15 minutes before they closed at 8pm. Cons: Parking is limited. I wish the entrance was a pull door instead of a push. Once the sun starts peeking out on a semi-regular basis, even if it is still just around 65 degrees as a daily high, I start CRAVING SnoWhat snowballs. It's an addiction. I stalk them on social media so I can plan my days and weekends to just *happen* to be in the same area as the truck. They set up at street fests, music festivals, flea markets, and private events! You are going to see them EVERYWHERE. They are an extremely reasonable option for a corporate event/treat day. Want a little something sweet at your wedding? SnoWhat is here for you! I have my favorite flavors, sure. Lavender Lemonade and Butterbeer and where it's at! But I am ALWAYS game to be a guinea pig and try new flavors and branch out. April is a wiz at whipping up fancy and fun flavors! Coffee flavor with chocolate syrup or sweet cream on top, mint with chocolate syrup, birthday cake with sweet cream and sprinkles. I used to live in the apartments right behind SnoWhat Snoballs before they were there. The storefront used to be occupied by a florist. I am so glad they weren't there when I lived there because I would've been broke from going every single day. I love this place sooooooo much. They always have new and delicious flavors. One of my all-time favorites is the lavender lemonade but it's hard to go wrong with any flavors there. I came here for the first time during an Elite event and I'm very glad I signed up for this one. I been past this place so many times while on the way home from work and ask myself "Why have I not come here before"? This place is located on Poplar Level road across from Walgreens and very close to the zoo. Parking lot is small and you may or may not get a good spot. I had no trouble whatsoever. Don't let the size of this place fool you, it's not as small as it seems. You can sit at the tall tables by the windows or in the small dining area. During my visit I redeemed my free small scoop deal via Yelp. I'm glad the employee that took my order told me about the free sample of the vegan chili cheese dog. It tasted very much like the real one and I was impressed. For the sample of the scoop I got Blue Raspberry Lemonade, I liked it so much I ordered a small. Still, with the flavors they did offer made with fresh ingredients, they still knocked it out of the park! ++Lavender Lemon Shandy (special)++ This was for a fundraiser and was a collaboration with False Idol's beer and their own lavender lemonade flavor. Initially, the flavoring is still at the top portion, but the longer you wait, the more it sinks to the bottom. I tasted the beer a little at first, but later I didn't detect it anymore. Lavender lemonade is already a lighter flavor, so don't expect it to be overly sugary with a strong artificial flavor like a slushy. Pro tip: if you let it melt a little bit, the slush has more of the flavor in each spoonful than eating it all from the top down. ==The Service/Staff== I love how the owners came out and asked us about our thoughts on the special since it was an experiment. The line for SnoWhat was more than 10 people deep during one point of the Buy Local Fair. "SnoWhat???" you might ask. "SnowYeah!!!" I'd respond! Those people knew what was up, and the wait was worth it. I say this because I was one of those lucky, patient people. As I edged closer, I got a better look at the flavors for SnoWhat's signature New Orleans-style snowballs. The flavors included "all natural flavors," which are made especially by SnoWhat, like cucumber lime, strawberry, key lime pie, Southern sweet tea, bourbon ball, pineapple cilantro jalepeno and watermelon basil. The "classic flavors" included some fun finds like Georgia peach, red hot, butter beer, vanilla orchid and even dill pickle. And then you can get free toppings like sweet cream chocolate sauce, as well as free samples. After chatting with the ladies behind SnowWhat, I decided to go with watermelon basil with some sweet cream, and I'm still craving more today. Considering this is pretty much a high-end Snow Cone or Hawaiian ice, it's largely water, which makes it seem light to eat. It was refreshing without weighing you down, like ice cream can sometime make you feel. And despite the line, it went fast. I got a medium, which was rather large, and cost $5. I seriously thought I had already written a review for SnoWhat... but apparently I did not. Time to change that! I'm that kind of girl who likes to eat snow. No, not yellow snow. But I love just about anything soft, fluffy, and icy. Add some delicious, HOMEMADE flavors to that... and you've got SnoWhat's amazing snoballs. I seriously think I could eat them all day. I haven't had a flavor I didn't love. They're refreshing and great for a hot day. I love the fruity ones, but the "adoraball" (birthday cake with the cream and sprinkles on top) is just so... adorable! Kathy brought me here after the Pride March across Louisville's lovely downtown. SnoWhat is a marvelous food truck dedicated to an icy treat that isn't quite a snow cone but a whole lot better. Never has putting balls in my mouth been such a great experience. They had all sizes, super tiny, small, medium, large enough to make your mother blush. They also had amazing and unique flavors. They have the size balls you want in your mouth, they have the flavor you're craving. I was going to get the pickle flavor (because it was pride, pride = pickles) but went with butter beer because, as a Hogwarts alum, I am nostalgic for school days. It really brought me back. Also, the service was great. Food trucks are either on point or the worst thing you've ever experienced. I do not regret this experience one bit. These ladies are wonderful and I wanted to put all of their balls in my mouth. What a lovely spot in a weird location. This little SnoBall joint has a lot to offer. From flavors, to size to color changing cups, my experience there was fun from start to finish. The flavor options are endless! I went with a root beer SnoBall, with sour spray and glitter topping (toppings are free). I am definitely going to have to go back, because a lot of the flavors sounded delicious. The have numerous sizes, all of which are appropriate for different occasions. I went with the color changing cups, which allows you a free small refill upon return. The staff was friendly, and helpful, and they have a "free-sticker" when you check-in on yelp, gotta love that! The location is definitely weird, but after you have dinner at Oskars, its a great spot for adults and kids to swing by for a sweet treat. SnoWhat is not a snow cone. It's not shaved ice. It's an experience! My mouth literally waters just thinking about their tasty, cool creations and how they are filled with so much flavor! I was always curious about SnoWhat, as the idea of a snow cream treat sounded very appealing. I was fortunate enough to try it at Yelp's Art in Action one year and instantly fell in love. Fast forward to Forecastle, and you better believe I pounced when I saw their food truck!! They have so many interesting and unique flavors. I've tried ones like Strawberry Lemonade and Strawberry Cheesecake and it never disappoints. Plus, the portions they give you are very generous. I love love LOVE snow cones, so when I just happen to glance over at this little bitty shop whilst leaving the zoo, I thought, "What better way to cool off the kiddos and myself than with a flavored ball of snow?" And I was right. The flavors were so many to choose from, it was overwhelming! I settled for the regular good old fashioned rainbow one so as not to injure my brain with too much thinking on such a hot day, and the super nice guy behind the counter absolutely made my daughter's life by adding rainbow glitter to her cone. Oh my heavens. The place was tiny but sufficient, the cost was not unreasonable, but please for all that is holy and good watch out for that parking lot! I had a hard time navigating parking in my mom-mobile, so much so that I wondered if it was really worth the trouble or if I should just forget it and get slushies at the gas station instead. My daughter and I fell in love with SnoWhat when they were a food truck. Now, they have their own store - and the food truck is still going out! The shaved ice is like none other. It's not like a slurpee or other snow cones I've had. It's very light and airy and absorbs the syrup perfectly. Our favorite is Butter Beer, tastes exactly as you imagine with that great caramel/butterscotch flavor - and we had some sweet cream - which is a genius idea! The weeks leading up to the Kentucky Derby are some of the most exciting times in our area. SoWhat along with 4 other food trucks gathered for a Yelp event competition. Each truck had to create a bourbon flavored item and the Yelpers would vote on the best. SnoWhat....wow! This was my first experience with your phenomenal snow cones. Calling them snow cones feels like an insult though. They take shaved ice and turn it into something you would not expect to come from frozen water. I was told they won the Yelp competition last year and are looking to take the title this year! They took a intricate approach to an old fashion. Nailing each flavor of the drink, bourbon, simple syrup and bitters, then putting that on shaved ice. Garnished with a candied orange and coronado cherry, this should be a must try for any out of towners coming in for the Derby! read more

When I was a small child my cousins and I ran after the ice cream truck. I selected a red, white and blue snow cone (it was during the Bicentennial), and I remember my grandmother scraping the sticky, watery mess into a bowl and admonishing me never to spend money on ice again. Well, I'm an adult now, and SnoWhat has a storefront. I went with my spouse and daughter on Mother's Day. I ordered a White Russian cup with whipped cream and gold sprinkles; my spouse got s'mores and our daughter got green apple with sour spray. (I asked if the sour spray was bitters; the gal looked at the unmarked bottle, which could have had Windex in it for all I knew. It's still a mystery.) My White Russian tasted more like root beer, with no sign of the whipped cream. I could barely enjoy it, it was so sweet. The s'mores syrup didn't even penetrate the ice ball, but my spouse said it tasted OK. My daughter, always up for a challenge, was the one person to finish her cup--but she didn't look too happy. My spouse asked if I wanted to go for ice cream, but I declined; I couldn't believe we'd just spent $10 (plus tip) on such a sucky dessert. Never again. Lesson: Listen to your grandparents. Went to the Flea Off Market in the Highlands (second date with Yelper~ YUP) Browse the wares, she got some soap, decides to try out SnowWhat? (Love the name). She's had it, I trust that and give it a shot. She get the Chi/Tea/Vanilla Snow Cone, I opted for the Mint/Chocolate Syrup. I didn't try the Pineapple/Habanero: (ALSO GOOD!! Like heat/sweet: GET IT) but I didn't want to risk eating it on a date~ Mine: I didn't taste it first, but it blew my mind! mint is one thing but it took it to another level with the syrup. I was literally eating mint chocolate chip ice cream via a snow cone. What have I been doing with my life, by missing out on this? How can you pack so much flavor into some ICE??? I was in heaven. Hers: I tasted it, it was amazing! You could taste the vanilla very well and the chi was not at all over powering. I've drank chi tea overseas, and it's medium to High\Strong in terms on taste/intensity/caffeine/sugar. Chi tea I find in the states is similar or a bit more mild. Not going to lie, whenever they are at an event (like the Flea off Market), no matter my mood, hunger, etc. I ALWAYS get their snowballs! I first had their wonderfully delicious treats at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, where they hosted a Harry Potter show and they, of course, had wonderful flavors that pertained to the overall theme. Me being me, of course, I had to get the Butterbeer flavor! I opted for a medium, for these things are HUGE and worth the price! The ladies were so kind to me, and I loved chatting with them and hearing (back then) that they were wanting a food truck and, perhaps, a more permanent location. Guys... I made the pilgrimage to SnoWhat after seeing all the lovely pictures and hearing about the delicious goodies they have to offer. I may or may not have been encouraged by Chris to check this place out and collectively a group pilgrimage may or may have not been planned for my inaugural visit. I threw that all out the window as I was sweating my booty off from spicy Mexican salsa and Louisville heat. I needed something cold, and fast. So I took a detour home (speeding to ensure I'd make it before they closed). The GPS said I'd get there in 15, pretty sure I made it in 9.5 minutes or less. I tried three flavors because I honestly was so overwhelmed by the abundance of delicious options. I tried wedding cake (good but sweet), coconut (liked it but not quite what I wanted), and Jesus take the wheel s'more. Note that it's only listed as s'more on the menu, so don't be looking for that first part. IT WAS SO GOOD. LIFE CHANGING GOOD. Like how on earth do you turn a campfire treat into a flipping frozen treat?! What is this witchcraft? The ice is nice and fluffy, not overly crunchy and chippy. It's like puffy and powdery. The s'more base syrup wasn't too sweet, the chocolate and marshmallow drizzle were so good. I didn't even know I liked those two things on frozen water chips. And the graham cracker dusting just made the experience complete. I may have found a new obsession outside of ice cream. Fluffy? The Sno Balls are fluffy? I can't decide if that's the right word to describe the texture of the ice in the Sno Balls from SnoWhat but that's what I think I'm going with. It's totally different from any snow cone or shaved ice I've ever had and in the best way. They have a wide variety for flavors to choose from that includes everything from classics like cherry and grape to dill pickle and coffee. I tend to stick to things in the fruit family with my favorite being the green apple with the sour spray added by I have also tried the dill pickle and it was pretty good also. Maybe a little too salty and not quite vinegary enough for me but still picklelicious. My kids usually both get either the cherry or the blue raspberry but maybe one day we will branch out a bit. It's nice to have this little spot here in the neighborhood that's so different from the other things we have. They just came to event for my job...the best snow cones i have ever had! Its not just shaved ice...its like borders icecream/ice. I used to get so excited when we would pull up to a craft fair or the flea and see SnoWhat's truck parked! It took me a little bit but I finally made it to the brick and mortar version of the fabulous truck. The ice here is the real star, it's a perfect consistency not a crunchy snocone but beautiful, soft and fluffy shaved ice. We visited the location the first time for an Elite event and it was everything I thought it would be. Adorable atmosphere - it's not tiny, it's cozy - and friendly service are the first things you'll notice. The exposed brick, neon sign, and pink lucite chairs put me in all kinds of a good mood. The menu boasts a wide variety of flavors to choose from. I was craving salty, so I had the dill pickle and it made me incredibly happy - basically just drinking pickle juice from a jar without any shame. I tried Cody's Lou Palmer (sweet tea/lemonade combo) and it was delicious, as well! I can't wait to come back and try out even more flavors. I wish this business had a permanent location, because ever since I had it when it was parked in front of the mall in June or July, I haven't been able to get it again since! :( The ice is shaved to the perfect consistency, and the flavors are to die for! Very unique flavors that I want to say are made by SnoWhat themselves!! My favorites were the Dill Pickle one and the Cantelope.
