The bartenders are nice - beware that they do keep your card if you keep your tab open - and seem to know the regulars. In addition to monthly bingo, they seem to host drag events, have video games and board games available to play, as well as several TVs. Plus, dogs can go inside and out. Me personally it's a little out of the way to become a regular haunt located in between Plaza and NoDa but not walking distance from either. Also it's not that the service was ever unfriendly but I just didn't feel like it was my vibe. Still a cool bar though and I can see why other enjoy it.

After eating two, I ended up placing the rest on a paper towel to absorb some of the excess oil, which unfortunately made them less enjoyable. That being said, I would definitely eat at The Degenerate again. I'd happily order the wings and sliders again, but I would probably skip the pierogies next time unless they're one of those dishes that are simply better enjoyed fresh at the restaurant rather than as takeout. Overall, there were definitely more hits than misses, and those sliders and wings alone are worth another visit!

Cocktail menu is unique and the ingredients might seem a little far out, but trust the process. The drink pictured below was a bourbon-based (Old Forrester) custom cocktail that Niaget threw together. Hints of pineapple & mint mixed with my favorite brand bourbon made this an honest treat. I will be tossing this cocktail bar onto my favorites list and can't wait to go back.

Soju is a clear, distilled Korean alcohol beverage. It's $18, but big enough to share with others. It tasted pretty good. You can't taste the alcohol, but it kind of sneaks up on you. I might try another flavor next time.

In the year since I moved here from NYC, the one thing I've most often bemoaned (besides all the lame joints touting "New York Style" pizza--you can't get New York Style Pizza in Charlotte, North Carolina--it's a geographical impossibility. And do you know why? Because the secret ingredient of all New York pizza is THE WATER.) is the lack of real dive bars. You know, some place dimly lit, with a heavy handed bartender, a great juke box and NO CHILDREN. I find it very disconcerting that all of the joints recommended to me down here--because they serve food, I suppose--allow kids inside. It's really hard for me to throw back a shot a tequila, take a drag on my Camel and holler, "If you don't like Hank Williams you can kiss my ass!" while little Suzy and Johnny are in the corner enjoying their junior burgers and fries. Bars are for drinking, restaurants are for eating, and the closest the two should ever meet is at the corner of Dusty Jar of Pickled Eggs and Fifth of Ol' Grandad. A real dive bar evolves organically. It opened when the old mill did and survives even though the mill didn't. It's provided shots and beers and honky tonk tunes for five generations of people looking to ease their burden or just get out of the house. Each year, the decor gets a little dingier and the herd is thinned out by liver disease and lung cancer. Nobody cares who you are or what you look like because alcohol is the great equalizer. Although Snug Harbor can't claim dive bar authenticity just yet (they just opened s few months ago) the feel is right. The decor is slightly shabby, the walls are dark and it's full of kitschy nautically-themed bric-a-brac (thus the name). There's a long-ass bar, a small stage (live bands almost nightly) and friendly-but-not-too-friendly bartenders who pour the booze long and hard. And nary a rug rat nor mozzarella stick to be found. read more
