I was pleasantly surprised by the modern clean lines and hip vibe inside this hotel restaurant/bar. I loved the use of color intermixed with fun decor. This is more reminiscent of a New York or Miami style property but muted nicely outside by the glass so it blends in with the existing skyline. The bar staff were very attentive but much to my dismay, although they say they serve food until midnite, the menu becomes very limited past 10pm ish. We tried a few different choices before we landed on the wings, one of the few things we could still get, and they were very good. A nice serving of 16 wings in a light bbq sauce. We asked for a side of dressing but apparently salad dressing is part of what you can't get after about 10pm ish. Anyway, after a long day of tennis at the 02, it was nice to get something to eat without having to venture out again. If in the area for a visit to the 02 again, I would stay here again and visit the bar. The location was great as it sits right on the DLR and although a bit outside the city, it was a quick tube ride to London Bridge and substantially less expensive.

We went several times during our stay and had great conversations with others at the bar (Danny was awesome to talk to). One might be concerned about the walk or the neighborhood but the taxi ride is 5 pounds...worth the trip. I enjoyed the John Smith Ale (see picture above)....this is a real London pub, not like those in the restaurants and hotels near the Excel Center.....also and equally important...the prices are very, very good.

The drinks on tap are a bit more like a typical pub fare in that there is Carling, Guinness and Budvar (Czech) and several others; but their bottle and can range is more vibrant from several breweries such as Flying Dog and Monteiths, In addition they have the same gaming cocktails that their Dalston bar are known for so it adds to the gaming vibe. The pub itself is largely intact from it's previous form in that it has kept more of the old school decor around. It has only one floor, but there is a beer garden out the back so you can get some fresh air in between gaming or watching some people play games.

Since we decided to hang a little bit more in the area after taking in the Emirates Line, the Oiler Bar suited what we were looking for, a place to chill while enjoying a glass of the local beer, and the water park as the backdrop. It is a barge docked and transformed into an open air bar that serves wide variety of local beers and some selections of wines. It was truly relaxing experience especially on a nice sunny day. The were both really good; the cod was well cooked and was quite a generous portion, but the sauce tasted like Bovril/Marmite which kinda ruined the taste. However, after the first taste it was better. I suspect that the chef used some kind of salty sauce, sort of a westernized miso paste, but miso would have been a much better, and safer, choice. My partner's fish pie was better than the cod, and if I ever go back I would probably order that. It comes in a nice ceramic pot, and was full of flavour and fish. The only downside was that it was so small. it looked more like a side dish than a main course, and I'm sure I could have finished two or three of them!! I'm not quite decided if I will go back again. Certainly not worth traveling very far for. But they do serve good quality seafood. Price wise its cheaper than seafood restaurants downtown, but still quite pricey.

I was served promptly by helpful bar staff - they were down to earth and didn't think it strange when I asked which of their beers had the lower alchohol content - they quickly provided the answer and didn't look at me as though I'd lost my marbles. I felt relaxed and would have stayed longer, but my train was calling.
