After a recent death in the family, it was suggested to get my father's house appraised. After searching around the internet, I came across So-cal Quality Appraisals. The reviews for them looked good so after a brief phone conversation with Steve, I decided to go forward with them to appraise the property. Steve showed up exactly on time and explained exactly what he would be doing in detail. It absolutely must be said, Steven is an AMAZING appraiser..!! My appraisal, done by another appraiser, came in nearly 25-35% under the expected appraisal price... why? CLEAR Appraisal racial discrimination. Me and the broker knew immediately the appraisal was way way waaaaaay off! I called around speaking to appraisers for hours and days, finally I reached out to Steven and we discussed the appraisal situation, after going through several of the comps listed on the appraisal , he asked me to email him my appraisal. He took over 1 hour and 45 minutes out of his personal time, talking and walking me through nearly line. by. line. the magnanimous number of errors which were grossly and glaringly apparent on that inexcusable appraisal. I took copious notes. If I were you, I would do the same if you get to talk to him. With Steven's help, I got my bearings and a leg to stand on. And I am now fighting that appraisal with the lender and have reported the appraiser through the BREA, Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, the HUD Fair Housing Department, and waiting for my appointment with the national fair housing Alliance.
