What's worse, I can't say I ever felt all that motivated to check them out either, even despite how my gf is a pretty big Disney fan. However, following our visit to Disneyland, finally making our way here immediately shot up our list of things to do! Over the years, the little bits that I learned about this place pretty much amounted to two things - that Walt Disney's family opened it in his honor (kind of obvious, I know) and that it's not very big, especially compared to the likes of the de Young or SFMOMA. However, as true as that first one may be, the second one needs a bit of color. While the building certainly may not be as large, that's not to say the museum itself is lacking. In fact, not only is it significantly larger that I thought it would be, but it has so many exhibits and displays that help detail Walt Disney's life - from his formative years and the early parts of his career to growing the House of Mouse and making Disneyland a reality. As impressive as all of the information that they have to share may be, though, what's even more notable is the variety and richness of the exhibits. Beyond just the usual photos and info plates/labels that you see at every museum, they also have monitors playing interviews and video clips of Walt Disney, pieces of his own artwork, the cameras and equipment set-up that was used to make some of Disney's earliest animated pictures, a model of Disneyland's original design, and even the type of vehicle he drove during his time in the military (presumably a replica and not the actual one). Plus, they also have a small gift shop, a coffee bar, and a theater on the lowest level. With so much to see and learn here, The Walt Disney Museum pretty much has something for everyone, regardless of whether you're a kid, an adult, a Disney fan, or a more casual visitor. The one thing I would acknowledge, as so many others already have, is that the ticket prices here did feel a little pricey. Not terribly so, but at $30, it's the same as SFMOMA and more than the de Young. Add to that the Presidio's parking rates and the cost can slowly add up if you're paying for more than yourself - just like going to any other Disney property! Still, I thought our visit was worth the price of admission to learn so much more about Walt Disney and his legacy!

We did a small picnic where we could all sit together, relax, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The whole place felt so peaceful and calming. We walked around, enjoyed the garden, took lots of pictures, and the kids had a great time exploring too. The vibe was amazing, especially being there together as a family. Such a beautiful and relaxing place to spend a few hours away from the busy city life. Everyone in our group loved it, and we would definitely come back again!

The small garden was beautiful. A few interesting buildings. A bridge. A cool gift shop. There was a bit of loud construction going on that was very visible behind the tranquil small meditation bench. Koi pond had some very well fed fish. The water was very murky so it was hard to see them. The Tea Cafe was cute, lots of seating. The chicken looked scrumptious. The udon also looked yummy. We ordered 2 iced green tea and were informed that the tea comes sweetened -- we decided to try it as it was an exceptionally hot day in SF and needed a cool beverage. WHAT A MISTAKE!! SICKLY SWEET AND SYRUPY. Only a smattering of ice cubes and the tea itself was a brown off color. I do not believe they make it in house. It tasted old and completely commercially made. I told one of the waiters and he acting surprised and asked if they mentioned that it was going to be sweetened, we said yes, but this is absolutely inedible and undrinkable. By this time the woman who sold us the tea came by (she didn't seem too interested in helping us to exchange to something else) and gave us a puzzled look and moved on. The male waiter asked if we wanted to try a different tea, but by this time we were ready to leave. $16x 2 for entrance fee. 2 small cups of sickly sweet greenish brown tea $10 dollars + 1 dollar for tip = wasted money. $43 dollars total == hmmmm? The place itself was cool and I would like to go back and enjoy the tranquility and hot tea on a cooler afternoon.

These street cars are the star of the attraction and definitely worth the ride. For $5.70 one can buy an all-day Muni pass which allows you to ride these cars along with all other transit EXCEPT the cable cars. These cars are a collection of preserved vehicles from the '30s to '50s. Each one was given from a city in the US. They were originally brought to San Francisco to substitute for the cable cars when the c.c. Went under major renovation back in the '80s. The street cars became a hit with locals and tourists and are now a part of historic transit systems in San Francisco. The museum is small but detailed. It is open limited hours and run by a team of volunteers. They are passionate about these street cars and it shows. They are very detailed oriented but expect a pause every 10 minutes when a street car goes rolling by. The museum is free with a suggested $5 donation. It will only take about 30 minutes to cover it but a great stop if a rail fan.

This is a well preserved California Mission, one of the 21 along the El Camino Real. Today it…read morestands as a reminder of a time in California history when Spain ruled the area. This mission held its first mass just one week before the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Today all that remains is the chapel, a couple of small rooms attached and a portion of the cemetery. The majority of the complex is long gone, buried beneath the city that built up around it. The chapel has been restored and could be used today. The alters, wooden pews and decor resemble what this church may have looked like in its prime over 200 years ago. Today it sits in the shadows of the Basillica. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids and seniors. The site can be easily toured in under an hour. However, to get the full story one may want to spend some more time.

We followed the gps and ended up at the beautiful high school. We also walked along the park. The park is large and lush and attracted lots of people on this beautiful Sunday afternoon. Parking for the mission is challenging. There is lots of street parking, but everyone is parked and we didn't see anyone leaving. We did find Sunday Church Parking. I believe it said tow away zone except between 8:30 and 4:30 on a Sunday. It was a smidge after 4:30 and a space opened up and we took it. Thankfully we didn't get a ticket, but I did see 2 meter maids coming though when we left. The mission is beautiful. I wish we had come earlier so we could have taken a tour.

I was just dropping money left and right for kids museums that were free for us. Sigh. Lesson of the trip: check your memberships! A lot of the exhibits were broken or not working, which was a bummer, but there was plenty of stuff for us to look at, and we didn't even see it all. Some highlights for the kids were the interactive laser table, the room where everything has no color unless you use a white light flashlight (they were in there FOREVER), and the cow eye dissection (which also left us all a little queasy...). We took too long getting brunch at the Ferry Building, so we didn't have enough time to explore it all, but I'm sure we'll return when we come up again.
