She was incredibly flexible with scheduling and working with me on the event planning. The location was easy to get to in Newport and the studio itself had the perfect amount of space for my group of 7 people. Be aware that you will have to pay for parking, but it's relatively inexpensive and done via app. During the event itself, Jeniece was patient and made jokes which we were very grateful for given that many of us hadn't painted or attempted visual art since high school. She provided the final product options and we voted on which we'd all complete. She was very attentive in the lesson -- she both demonstrated and walked around the class to see how we were progressing. She was incredibly positive with her feedback. My wife paid for a class here as a surprise for our 9th wedding anniversary. A family situation…read morecame up, so we called ahead -- we were told on the phone that they would take us as long as we got there within 10 minutes. We rushed. My wife got out of the car and was at the door inside that window. They wouldn't let her in without me, and I was still parking. I walked in 11 minutes after the start -- one minute past their cutoff. There were maybe four to six people in the room. I explained the family situation involving my son. I told them it was our anniversary. My wife was distraught, and I pleaded with them and tried to reason with them. They turned us away anyway. We weren't asking anyone to slow the class down or stay late -- we would have caught up on our own. My wife left humiliated on the day she had planned as a gift. I get it -- you have to run a business, and you have to start on time. But she was there inside the window you gave us and you wouldn't seat her. It came down to one minute and two people standing in front of you, and you chose the minute. The class started without us. So did the last impression I'll have of this place.

The teachers are very patient and good at bringing the best out of the kids. Seems to me, those teachers have a lot experiences working with kids, they know how to make the kids working hard in a fun and motivated environment. All their teachers information are posted, I think all of them have art degrees. The Artist Lab also have events for kids showcase their productions which my son is absolutely looking forward to. During pandemic, my boy joined their online classes and went back onsite classes once they reopen. They have the dividers between seats. Kids and teachers are required to wear masks all times. They also measure the temperature every time. Parents are no longer allowed to go in inside, but I think I also saw some dyson air purifier machines on the floor. So I feel very confident sending him back with all the safety measurements they take in place.

I love taking the adult art class here! I've completed 2 paintings and 3 acrylic pieces with Sher…read moreso far. I've been an oil painter since I was a child. I am 27 years old, I'd say the class ranges from 17-70! There is about 10-ish people in the class. Each person works on their own piece- meaning she is NOT up in the front giving instructions while everyone paints the same dang thing. This is not the type of class. The classes are intimate, and very relaxed. She has everything you need to start your first masterpiece. Really, you don't need to bring a thing! You can choose any medium in the adult class- oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, ceramics, and probably even more. It's is SUCH a great place for a beginner, because you can try all the different mediums until you find one right for you, with no investment in supplies! This is rare. Sher really is a wonderful woman. She is as hands on or hands off as you need. If you need her to sit by you and walk you through every step, she's there. If you want to do you own thing she'll stop by with once or twice with encouragement and her two cents! Most students in the adult class have been going to her for years and doing their own thing, so she's always able to give extra attention to newbies. She is very chatty, it seems like everyone in the class is old friends. She has great stories to tell. I'm a bit quieter while I'm painting, but I do not find the chatter among the class distracting at all. Even though I've painted most my life, i was a bit nervous coming into a new studio- NO NEED! This is the most relaxed, kind group of people I've found. No artsy egos, no judgment, no pressure. Lastly, her children's classes and art camps seem to be super popular. Some of the parents are now in the adult class because they were jealous of how much fun the kids were having. How cool is that!
