Zero stars. I'm honestly speechless -- and not in a good way. I just got off a call with this clinic where I was told to find a different dentist and that my mother, a Medicare patient, was no longer welcome. Rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I originally scheduled a first-time appointment for my mom to see Dr. James Kim, DDS, for a painful dental emergency. That appointment had to be rescheduled a few times because her pain got too severe to wait, so we ended up taking her to a different dentist for urgent care. We later rescheduled with SoCal Smiles for a routine annual exam and cleaning. Shortly after, we got a call from the clinic's staff informing us that we should find a another dentist and that we wouldn't be welcome at SoCal Smiles Dentistry. There was no meaningful attempt to understand the circumstances or discuss the situation with us. The front desk is the face and voice of a practice, and as someone who works in healthcare myself, I was appalled by the complete lack of professionalism and basic patient care. This is not a clinic that puts patients first -- especially concerning given how vulnerable an elderly Medicare patient in pain can be. I would not recommend SoCal Smiles to anyone, and I hope this saves someone else the frustration we went through. read more

SoCal Smiles has been my dentist for 16 or so years now. I've gone nowhere else but here in all that time. I once lived up in Cupertino, and would get work done down south with SoCal Smiles... that's how good they are! Their technicians are all amazing, the best I've ever experienced in 4 decades of going to the dentist! They have the gentlest, caring, and most professional touch in the business! Every team member at SoCal Smiles is trustworthy and respectful and their empathy levels are all high! Helena and Kim are amazingly efficient, and they make sure the paperwork is a breeze! They call and text you to remind you of your appointments and always make sure to book you 6 months out to keep your teeth healthy!!! Their technicians make it a pleasure rather than a bother to have dental work done! And Dr. James Kim... he is amazing! Although he's super busy because families love taking their entire family there, he's in and out in no time! Just had a filling removed and re-added and it was done twice as fast as expected! I went to this office on 6/5 with a toothache. Dr Kim said that I needed a new crown on a back tooth., I said ok and paid $1,400.00 that day for the crown. On 6/12 I went back again with the same toothache. Dr. Kim could not find the problem and said it may be the temporary crown. He stated I should go see a Endodontic dentist. I had told him that I had already had two root canals in the tooth in question and that I would not have a third. I would rather have the tooth pulled. I left and came back on 6/18 with the same tooth ache issue. He told me my new crown had come in. Again we discussed the issue of pulling the tooth rather than put a new crown on it. He was sure my tooth ache was because the temporary was to tight. He then proceeded to take the temporary off and put the new crown on. I was not very pleased but trusted that he knew what he was doing and my pain would stop. One week later on 6/25 I was back in the office with the same tooth pain. This time it was Dr. Lee who saw me and said I needed to go to and Endodontist because they had a special Xray machine. I was not very happy and left. I called the Endodontist office to get pricing for the upcoming service that was recommended and realized I could not afford it. I was also angry because I had been going to SoCal Smiles for a month straight with tooth pain and knowing that ,they continued to sell me a crown with no relief of the tooth pain. At that moment I chose to call my old dentist, who got me in to see them that day, for a second opinion. He took xrays and assured me that my pain was coming from the tooth with the new crown. He told me he could remove it or I could go back to Dr. Kim and let him pull it and make good on the crown. I went to my car and called Dr. Kim's office and relayed that the tooth needed to be pulled and I would like them to work with me on the costs of the crown. I received quite a bit of pushback from the office staff and was told they would have the Doctor call me. (This was Friday) Still in pain, I was frustrated and demoralized. I decided, to go back in to my old doctor and have him pull the tooth. Finally, relief. So my question, what kind of Doctor sees you for 3 weeks in a row with pain and the best they can do is sell you a new crown. And on the 4th week brushes you off to another Doctor I have never in all my years have a Dentist this poor. They couldn't even be bothered call the Endodontist and set up an appointment for me. Incompetence and lack of professionalism and greedy are my best ways to describe these Dentist. read more

I have had an excellent experience at SoCal Smiles Dentistry since I started visiting close to, if not over 10 years ago. They are kind, courteous and have mastered attention to detail. It's air conditioned and the waiting room is very comfortable. I've never been scared of dentists, but I have been to other practices that made me anxious due to rough-handling. I have never experienced that here. They are calm, patient, and gentle, while leaving my teeth feeling very clean. I also appreciate that they keep updating their technologies and have a pleasantly sunny view at most of the stations, along with shades for when it gets too sunny. read more

The office is clean and the staff are friendly. You can opt to receive text reminders for your appointment which is convenient. DR Nguyen does a thorough examination and is willing to answer any questions I have. He also does a majority of the cleaning himself which is extremely rare. My routine checkups are speedy and run no more than 40 minutes from time of check in. read more

Love this dentist and whole team! Dr. Kim is personable, caring and meticulous with his work. He's fixed my chipped front tooth and you'd never be able to tell, and fixed crowns and other work on me. Everything is easy and smooth bc he does such detailed great work on it all that I never have to worry. It's easy to get an appointment within a couple days if it's urgent but normally I pre schedule every 6 months. Don't waste your time anywhere else. I've had nothing but pleasant encounters each visit, so much so that I referred my husband to become a patient here too! This review is long overdue! After many years of neglecting my dental care, I finally made it a priority and scheduled a consultation at SoCal Smiles earlier this year. I have TMJ, so dental visits aren't always the most pleasant (I've been refused x-rays and have even had to be put under just to take impressions). I wasn't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised at how easy they made my experience! On my first visit, Dr. James outlined my treatment plan which included filling cavities, removing my wisdom teeth, getting a night guard, and of course, regular cleanings. All of the charges were presented upfront so there were no surprises and I was able to budget accordingly. All of the procedures have gone smoothly, and due to my TMJ, they often split my sessions up for no additional charge to give my mouth a rest. Even before I got my wisdom teeth out, I was already raving to friends about how much I loved SoCal Smiles, but this was above and beyond. I got dry socket after removing my wisdom teeth and was in unbearable pain. It was a Sunday so I didn't know what to do, but I ended up reaching out to the office and was able to get in touch with Helena (who is fabulous!), the office manager. She contacted Dr. James and he was able to see me on his day off and pack the dry socket. I couldn't be more impressed with that level of care. In addition to Dr. James, Helena and the rest of the amazing staff, the offices are clean and modern. I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seen and my appointments always go quickly (something I had never experienced before at the dentist). SoCal Smiles is located on the second floor of a professional building facing 17th Street. There is street parking at the front and a parking lot at the back. Appointments can also be coordinated and confirmed view text for modern convenience. I'm so grateful to have found SoCal Smiles - so much so that I actually look forward to going to the dentist!
