My previous dentist who I really liked, moved his practice to Las Vegas. I didn't look for a new dentist until I had a problem/movement with my front tooth implant. It turns out that I needed the implant removed and replaced, requiring dental surgery. I was very happy with Dr. Sean and both the receptionist/appointment scheduler and the dental technician. I never leave reviews but I feel this warranted a review to hopefully save someone the headache. This review is for Newport Dental Group in Costa Mesa, specifically for Dr. Sean Saghatchi I needed an implant on tooth 7, the tooth to the right of my front tooth. Because the front teeth are crucial, I made sure to do my research because I wanted to make sure I would get the best looking tooth possible. When I first met with Dr. Sean Saghatchi he said that they would make sure that they would get the tooth as close as possible to my other crowns. They did say it's impossible to get it identical, which I completely understood. However, Dr. Sean and his assistant, Erin, did say that they would make sure I would leave with a tooth I loved, no matter how many times it took until it was to my liking. They were so convincing that I was super confident that they would get it right at the first try. However, that was far from what happened. When they first delivered the first crown it looked like a white chiclet. Horrible quality. I immediately said I did not like it and the color was completely off, as well as the translucency and shape. Erin agreed that it was off but Dr. Sean Saghatchi immediately looked bothered and said that there was nothing else they could do about it and walked away. He literally wanted me to walk away with a subpar crown. I, of course, advocated for myself and Erin agreed that it should be sent back. It took 4 tries for me to get a crown that finally was just acceptable enough for me to move on and be done dealing with the office. They were never able to get the right shape and length despite how many times I explained it to them. I even brought my old crown and sent pictures. You would think a practice, especially the dentist, would want to take pride in their work and ensure a patient leaves with a crown they can truly be happy with, but that was not the case. Another concerning aspect, after the initial delivery of the crown and the dentist not being happy with me not accepting a low quality crown, I did not see the dentist again. Everything was always handled by assistants. During my final appointment, the dental assistant screwed in the crown and took the X-ray. The dentist finally came in only briefly to seal the access hole, with no cleaning or inspection of the area beforehand, which I found concerning given this was a permanent implant. I asked a simple question about the angle of the crown and his immediate answer was "You've already had four revisions, that's all you get." Completely unnecessary and unwarranted. Additionally, I felt that the dentist treated me as if I was not paying for services. I told him that his goal should be to have a happy patient rather than rushing someone to accept a subpar crown they would have to live with for years. He just kept saying "I disagree." I told him of course he would disagree but I was just letting him know my perspective and experience as his patient. He once again said "that's all you get," in a demeaning way, as if he had given me the implant for free. His treatment of a paying patient was unprofessional and disrespectful. Overall, the experience left me feeling dismissed and undervalued. My best advice to anyone considering this office is to do thorough research beforehand. There are countless dentists who deliver excellent work and genuinely care about their patients, there's no reason to settle for someone who treats you like a second class citizen. EDIT: I want to respond to Sean's factually inaccurate response. First, the staff was never the problem. At no time was my review about the staff being the problem. If anything, he has to thank them because they are kind and professional. Sean is the problem. Second, I never said that the photo I posted was the tooth I left with so he is the one not being accurate. He should take the time to read his patient's review and experience before trying to argue. That is one of the revisions that he deemed acceptable that you can tell is definitely not okay but he said "that is all you get." Had I not advocated for myself and let Sean bully me, I would have not left with an acceptable implant. This is the second revision. You can just imagine how bad the first one was! It was so bad I did not even want to take a photo of it. Now I wish I had. Lastly, if you notice, all negative reviews have rebuttals by him somehow making it the patient's problem/issue. He is never at fault. If he feels he got slandered it is because he got called out for his horrible customer service and arrogance and he can't accept any feedback. read more

Every time i go there for my free 6 month cleaning, the Dental Hygienist says i need Deep cleaning for over$900.00. I know i don't need this, and go some where else for my cleaning I strongly feel that they are trying to extort money from a senior citizen. They refused to preform my free dental cleaning. I got a second opinion and the new dentist confirmed what I was already feeling 1. That my bottom left bone graft has completely dislodged. 2. The sutures Dr. Sean used were supposed to be dissolvable and dissolve in 5-7 days, but on day 8 they were all still intact, housing bacteria, causing discomfort, and not holding or anchoring the tissue down. In other words, they were doing more harm than healing. Once my new dentist removed all the sutures, I felt immediate relief. He also told me I could have waited to have my left side wisdom teeth removed, and that bone grafts when used correctly should be used with implants and in the older population. In wisdom teeth removals they are often a money grab. I am 27 years old. This was incredibly upsetting to hear because I feel like I was scammed out of $3,000 just 10 days before my honeymoon -- a trip I have spent thousands of dollars on and poured my heart and soul into planning since February. I also only took 1 day off for my wedding so I could take a longer vacation. Everything I went through only reinforced my original review: Dr. Sean does more unnecessary work and is not focused on patient care. Avoid him at all costs. read more

I'm a 26-year-old student living here in SoCal. Recently, I walked into this dentist's office expecting just a regular check-up, but instead, I got the surprise of my life. They told me I had two cavities, needed a night guard, that I should have my fillings replaced, and even suggested a gum graft. The total for everything? Over $11k, with $7k of it out of pocket. As a student, I'm already struggling with my finances, and this news was a serious blow. It really had me stressed out - dental health is super important, and I was worried about how I would manage to cover these costs. Luckily, the financial manager at NDG said they work with 9 different lenders, lol. Still, something felt off. The price seemed insane and the treatments extreme, so I decided to get a second opinion. Best decision ever, I might add. I went to another dentist, who gave me a complete once-over. Guess what? I didn't need any of those treatments. Zero cavities and certainly no need for a gum graft. I can't tell you the relief I felt. This was another dentist nearby I found on Yelp that didn't have any of these concerns and is highly rated. Look, I'm not an expert. I know diagnoses can vary. But the huge difference between these two exams made me seriously question what I was told at the first place. I thought I should share my experience because it really could have cost me a lot if I hadn't double-checked. Please beware of sketchy dental offices that seem like used car dealerships. They will try to sell you on everything they can, even their stupid night guard they won't shut up about. Look when you sit down in the treatment chair. To the right, they have a table neatly stacked with all the different treatments they offer that will completely milk your insurance and wallet. If you come here prepare to be overcharged. I came to this office for the first time needing a root canal pretty urgently. I knew I was going to have to pay some out of pocket with my insurance but I was never expecting to pay $2,000. The total for one root canal and the crown was $3500. When I asked a few times for the billing codes to be explained to me all I got was "that's just part of the root canal" by the front office staff, and when I expressed my concern about the price being above average I was told that this price was typical. I was offered the option to cancel the procedure due to my weariness about the cost. However at the point due to the urgent nature of the work I needed done, the time I had already taken off work, and the process it would have taken me to find a new dentist and officially change my dentist with my insurance, I made the decision to go ahead with the work, even though I knew I was being overcharged. After the root canal I was also told that I had a small cavity which was going to cost about $330 after insurance. Since this wasn't as urgent of a matter I waited about a month and found a new dentist. And guess how much they charged me? $130. So that means it would have cost me nearly 3x as much for the same exact work. They also said that typically their patients end up paying around $1000 for root canals and what I paid was double that. Even at the upper range of what is typical to charge for root canals this exceeded all of those estimates. Also I could tell the dentist was irritated with me that I had asked about the billing codes and expressed my discomfort with the prices. But I felt like I needed to get the work done ASAP, so I did. I didn't have any problem with the quality of the dental work and I did find a lot of the staff to be friendly and welcoming, but I quickly learned that this office mostly cares about getting as much money as they can out of you. So if paying a fair price is something important to you, I would look elsewhere. read more
