Although I was technically in the wrong location based on my home address--which corresponds to the Mountain View office--I explained that the Campbell location is much more convenient for my workplace. Completely dumbfounded. Newly married and wanted to get my marriage certificate submitted to change my name for my social security. Appointments was about 2 months out and I wanted to try to get it done earlier as a walk-in. They really should put a sign saying everything is by appointment only (effective 01/2025). I waited an hour only to go to the window to be told this and offered to make an appointment for my next visit. I shouldn't even have the option to get a number. I was there for a simple document presentation to them and the (also very nice and helpful) folks on the toll free number told me that I didn't need an appointment. Came in without an appointment to take care of some business, the park lot was nearly completely full but surprisingly we only waited about 30 minutes and was in and out in about an hour. When you walk in there is a computer that you enter you social Security number, fallow the prompts then it spits out a number. An absolutely amazing, kind person who gave me a lot of good information ( about making appointments, what the next steps with regards my ask looked like etc) and in general was very helpful, quick and efficient as well. I didn't have an appointment so I expected to wait and the security guard told me to grab a ticket. After about 30 minutes there was an announcement that everyone needed to have an appointment to be seen. So I talked to the security guard again who showed me a QR code for what I thought was an appointment. I followed the prompt and waited for another 2 hours for which I finally got called. Apparently I didn't have an appointment after all and the lady at the window made one for me for the following month. So I waited two hours for someone to make an appointment. Disappointing. I've also called multiple times and waited for an hour and a half each time, with still no answer. Their office needs better communication and better customer service. read more

I arrived early, checked in, and got a queue number. When I was finally called to the window, the staff told me I didn't have an appointment even though I had already called SSA to confirm it AND went in person to the San Jose office to schedule it, since it was for a change of status (something you can't do online). The man at the window asked for my ZIP code, then made an unnecessary comment about "East San Jose" when my ZIP code (95132) is actually North San Jose. I was standing right in front of him, yet he refused to help me and said he'd "just schedule me for next time." Only after I showed him my phone call log with SSA (a 24-minute call) did he give me a new queue number. Why couldn't he help me right then and there when I was already at the window? I was made to wait again. Then another staff member cut me off repeatedly. She handed me a form, told me to fill it out in the lobby, and said she'd call me back. She never did. I waited until closing time, completely ignored. Staff literally closed up and LEFT while I was still sitting there. The security tried to help and called a supervisor. The supervisor came out, didn't want to hear what happened, and flat-out lied, saying I had been called earlier when I clearly hadn't. They referenced a ticket number from a different SSA office I wasn't even at. I took time off work and drove over 35 minutes just to be completely dismissed and sent home with nothing accomplished. The level of disrespect, disorganization, and laziness in this office is absolutely unacceptable. Multiple staff members were rude, dismissive, and clearly didn't care. Sometimes it feels like our government hates us. Used check in machine in the front, which asked me if I had an appointment, which gave me a queue ticket. Waited almost 2 hours until my number was called, lady at the window casually tells me that they don't accept walk ins but she'll be more than happy to make an apt for me for a date 2 months away. Feels like a mean joke. Why would you give people a number in queue after they specifically indicate they don't have an apt? Social Security Administration Office Campbell location. This location I have never had appointment but of drop in ticket servicing. Office is kept well maintained as bathrooms are accessible. Customer services representatives at this location is so nice, generous, respectful, and so considering of your needs. As if in communication to either on site security guards staff or SSA office customer services that I do so primarily spoken communicate in English. Customer services representative does of your request of making a custom claimant statement form with all requirement of information pertaining to yourself and other person. As well as when I had requested for late submission form of good cause they were able to print provide me the exact form to turn in immediately. As regardless of SSA office you turn in your documents to will still get routed to the SSA office of open case closest near your home residence location. I am so grateful for being serviced and getting to meet some of the SSA office customer services representatives that know what they are doing, and how they can better faster assist others in need. 2 stars for the long wait and overall appointment and waiting system. Went in to get a name change for my Social Security card and it took me 2 hours and 15 mins for a 10 minute appointment. I did not have an appointment, just walk in. I'm not sure if there is an option to have an appointment for name change? I did pre-fill out my info online prior to coming to the admin office, which sped up my time speaking with the representative. I suggest bringing water and a snack since you will most likely be sitting and waiting for a while lol. The front desk person suggested coming in 30-40 mins before opening time so you're the first to get called. That definitely beats waiting 2+ hours. As of Jan 1st 2025 you need an appointment. I didn't know until I was there. The guard at the door was helpful and told me to go to the kiosk and take a number and they would give me an appt. After waiting 4 hours on the phone, I was finally able to make an appointment at the Campbell Social Security office. It's a new and clean office, though parking is very limited. I arrived there a little early and checked in at the kiosk at the right side of the lobby. I received my ticket and waited for my number to be called. The ticket numbers are presented on a screen in the front. Once your number is displayed, you go the room number listed. They also announce the number. The agent we met with was very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional. The whole appointment took less than 15 minutes. It was a very pleasant experience. read more

The center itself is quite efficient and organized. The biggest tip is to come with an appointment. Makes the difference between doing an activity in 10 mins or in 1.5 hours as I experienced without an appointment last time. Once they call your turn, the process itself is very efficient and done in 5 mins. So I don't fault the staff here who are helpful, but the SSA system which doesn't tell you which center accepts appointment and which ones don't. In addition, the field office locator on the SSA portal is broken. Parking is in a very small lot, so tough to find an empty spot. I have visited all the field office in san jose ca. Not one is better than the other when it comes to waiting times. The phone numbers that once helped people in a timely manner no longer exists, in fact the wait times is not even mentioned probably because no one is even working to answer the phones. Our trip to the Social Security office in Campbell was amazing! I've been to others with remote parking, long lines and dingy seating space. Campbell Social Security is almost like a movie theater! Open space with big glass windows, plenty of seating, and convenient parking right in front. And the service was quick and excellent. I was with a family member who is partially handicapped, and we found parking right in front. You use a touch screen to enter your name, and you get a number; we waited maybe 10 minutes. The service representative was very sharp, attentive, thoughtful and helpful. He sent us back out to the waiting room for 10 minutes, then came out and finalized our request (which was for a new Social Security card). Couldn't have been easier. I was told you did not need an appt. and that they didn't take them. Show up in person, take a ticket and then wait for your turn. It wasn't terribly busy when I went so the wait was reasonable. However, the person that I worked with was completely unable to have a comprehensive conversation about what Social Security needed with regard to income and Medicare. She was not able to lead me in the right direction and closed her window when it wasn't 4pm yet. Her ability to help me was really lacking and clearly she didn't want to do her job. I need to share a great experience with this small local SSA office in Campbell. I called on a Tuesday afternoon to see if there was any way to make an appointment. I was not hopeful, as my on-line chat with the SSA indicated that no offices were taking appointments. I waited on the phone for just a few minutes and was greeted by a very friendly operator who set an appointment for 9:15 the next morning! She even told me where to stand when I got to the office so that I would be recognized as having an appointment and not have to wait in the standby line. Great Service! I am eligible for Medicare on 10/1 and needed to submit an SSA-44 so that the SSA would look at my current retirement income instead of my last 2 years of working income when calculating Medicare premiums. read more

I can't believe I'm writing a review for a social security office... but I feel that a positive review can help reassure you that it's not as bad as you may expect! Long story short: was in line at 8:45, got a ticket around 9:10, called at 9:20 and out by 9:25. I was just changing my last name, had all the required paperwork ready and followed instructions. I'm sure there are other scenarios that might be more complicated but as long as you're prepared it's generally fine. Maybe I just got lucky, who knows! I had to make an appointment because I was told by the Main Social Security Number (after being on hold for over an hour) that I had to provide proof of citizenship at my local office before I could register for SS website. I called the Campbell Office and after only a few minutes a friendly staff member answered, and I was told to just come in since they were not busy that day. I got there in an hour, got a ticket number and was helped within 10 minutes by a friendly staff member and out of there in less than an hour! September 26th, the Campbell office started work in a positive manner for my Survivor Support Payment which was allowed to be paid out in Oct. Oct, Nov, Dec, almost Jan 23 - now come and gone. I have gone to the office 2 more times - in person - since no one picks up the phone. First time - an incorrect request for more information on my daughter had stalled the process - really? That got corrected - she is well and working! I have gone back in person - taking up so much time - to get my SS Survivor benefit owed to me by my late husband's account! What is taking so long??? They have confirmed that they have everything they need. (one person is handling this) - the website says 2 - 4 weeks! What's going on? Any advice on how to get my benefit? read more

First of all, there was "CLOSED " sign on the door. You can't just go inside. Some people thought that the office was closed. There's a guard standing at the door to let people in as others come out. The wait outside was short but one you get in there , you check in to get a ticket. Then you sit down and WAIT till your number is called. There was about 30 people inside waiting to be served. What a nightmare - the guard gets pissed if your cell phone rings off or if you talk on it. After reading the reviews, I thought this location would not be too bad. But I guess it all depends on your timing. It's not as bad as the DMV. But you just have to wait if you did not have an appointment. But if you schedule an appointment on the phone, it is another month out. Not sure if you really get called in right away even with an appointment. They do not call the numbers chronologically. It depends on the service you need. So no food or drinks (water is ok), or cell phones allowed. I waited over an hour inside before my number was called. They take your photo ID and supposedly make a copy of it. Then the helping just sat me down on the "Social Security Express "window for me to set up an account and he took off to lunch. I was the for a total of two hours, from 11:20 a.m to 1:20 p.m on a Tuesday. read more

Waiting time is awful. Even if the number called is obviously not anymore in the waiting area (several calls are being done 5 minutes apart each) the agent don't proceed to the next client. In the result the waiting time is very long and we can wonder what are doing the agents during that time. Maybe taking coffees or spending time on personal stuff. Don't count as well on the security guard to provide any advice. Except checking your bag she does not do anything else. She hides behind sunglasses inside and do not reply to you for Amy questions you may have. This is a shame that government agencies cost so much and are provided a so poor service. If you go there don't do the same mistake as me: grab a good book to enjoy the waiting time. This kiosk tickets system is also weird. Got the first ticket that never been called. It was for the " other " choice on the menu. So seems that if you choose that option you can wait for ever. After finally getting through on the local line 866-348-5832 after two days of calling, the representative refused to give me an appointment. He said that they are not providing in house visits anymore. Well that is a lie, since I watched people with appointments go into the building all morning and checking in with the security guard. I even asked the security guard how to get an appointment and he says call the 866 number to get one. I tell him we tried calling for 2 days, he says all the people on his clipboard list all got through the line somehow. I called and called that day. This review is for the Vietnamese female who did not introduced herself after my greeting to her as I was approaching the counter. The reason for my appointment was because I did not receive my new SSN card after well over a month of notifying in person, via appointment of my surname change after getting married. On another note, in regards to my SSN, the Vietnamese female is completely illiterate when I mentioned SSA is to be informed when your SSN is found on the dark web as she hastily interrupted me and states: "we(she) can't do anything about it". Well, I am not saying SSA has the ability to resolve the apprehensive situation but all I know is if a person whose SSN may be compromised, informing the SSA are one of the steps and options to take action. That person did not attempt to hear the words I was speaking to her in which from my observation, she just didn't understand what I was referring to and disregarded my ask for help.
