I arrived about a half hour before the opening at 9 am, and here were about 6-8 people already in line. The doors opened at 0850, and we went thru a security scanning; my replacement shoulder pinged the sensor. I did a check in: no appointment, and selected "other reason", and got a ticket. A ten minute wait, and the manager came out to tell us that the wait might be hours without this appointment. he offered an alternative, i.e., line up and tell him what our purpose is. Since mine was to drop off a Medicare form, he initialed the form and told me I could place the form into a drop-box and it would be addressed. I did so, and left. Let's see if that is true. Stuck on stupid! poor service! We went here and got a number and waited for an hour. We noticed that they skipped our number. They kept calling numbers that were issued after ours. so after waiting an hour, some employyee came outof the back and said to everyone, for those without an appointment its going to be another several hours and that they werent seeing anyone without an appointment unless they waited all the way to the end. I'm giving this place 5 stars because of how hard the employees work from the security to the desk employees. This location is VERY busy and I feel that these employees do not get a break! Is the system for calling people disorganized and confusing?! Absolutely!!! I wish that there was an explanation for the letters and codes so that you, as the client, could get some understanding as to how the system works. I think this would decrease the amount of people going up to ask about how many people are in front of them. I know that has to be so frustrating for employees. I have to give a huge kudos to the security guys who found knives on people trying to enter the building and even a large bag of marijuana on another man who argued that "weed is legal"....security were SUPER patient explaining it is a federal building and the marijuana could not be brought into the building. I also feel that the employees would greatly appreciate a deep deep cleaning of the place because it just feels dirty and I feel bad for the employees having to work in that environment. I have called and left several messages on her phone explaining my situation and I needed to speak with her urgently because this matter was time sensitive. I never got a phone call back!! The location of the office is in not the best part of town to say the least. I came here just to do my name change after I got married. I would suggest coming in the morning because it can get quite busy. They open at 9 AM and I think people start lining up around 815. I didn't want to wait outside given the location so I came around 930. there was probably about 20 people ahead of me. Upon entering the first of the doors, you must go through security. The security staff was extremely friendly and pleasant. Overall, I did feel safe with them there. There were several police officers in the parking lot. I had to go to the kiosk, fill out some information, and then it printed a ticket with a number. Ive heard for simple things like name change, the wait time is less. I waited for approximately two hours before being called to a window. the lady who helped me was extremely nice, and had a very good attitude. The reason they do not receive a 5/5 is because the people waiting at the office are extremely sketchy. Some people were sleeping on the floor. Some where homeless. There was a lady constantly breathing into a breathalyzer next to me and talking about her court dates. I do feel like it's kind of crazy you have to come to the Social Security office in order to get your name changed after marriage. This was my first time at a SS office. Had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Cynthia Kinsel via a telephone conference in March 2023. "Cindi" was 20 minutes past the scheduled conference time, which was a bit frustrating but easily could be overlooked. However, she immediately had a callous and negative attitude towards me and my mother. It was clear she had no intention of hearing from either one of us and had already made up her mind on how she was going to proceed. We were discussing an overpayment of SSDI benefits paid to my mentally disabled brother. His benefits had been revoked and since social security was behind on sending out correspondence regarding overpayments, we were unaware of the existence of said overpayment until 2 years after (and SSDI payments were continuing to be paid...wtf. We even received a notice in January of 2023 showing the monthly benefit amount for my brother which also stated that form could be used as proof of benefits to secure other services such as food stamps etc....yet according to SSA he wasn't eligible for SSDI benefits since 2020!) I attempted to explain to Ms.Kinsel about the overpayment and specifically that my brother has schizoaffective disorder. He is legally liable for himself and we have zero means of verifying his employment statuses (he lives independently and has his own bank accounts separate from the one my mother is a representative payee on for his SSDI payments. She can't see any other financial info for him or know whether or not he is working/how much he is making etc.) Ms.Kinsel was extremely rude and condescending and told us that since my brother worked (without our knowledge) and made too much $, the debt owed to SSA is valid and that SSA will pursue my mother's income to resolve it (a debt of $35,000...) I told her that my mother couldn't have had knowledge of the wages my brother earned since she doesn't have any legal authority over him. She said that my brother should have known to not try to work (he worked sporadically at temp agencies but his illness prevents him from being able to have consistent employment.) I told her that people with schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorder typically feel they don't have an illness and therefore may struggle to understand the importance of not going over the income allowance for SSDI benefits. Cynthia refused to listen to anything I said. I told her that perhaps my mother and I needed to do an administrative hearing with a judge then since she had not told us any options for proceeding. She immediately said she would write up her paperwork and "push it off to someone else and get it off my desk. No problem for me." I told her that I would like to hear our options and she was beyond rude and volatile. She had absolutely zero empathy, never let us explain the situation fully, and had already decided her actions prior to even speaking with us. I managed to get a recording of a portion of our conversation and everyone who has heard it have been shocked at her lack of professionalism and her refusal to listen or offer any genuine option to help us. She should not be in a role that requires her to interact with at risk/marginalized/vulnerable people, like many who receive SSDI benefits. She was predatory, retaliatory, and hostile. My brother is still without SSDI benefits (our expedited request for benefit reinstatement has been pending for months meanwhile my mother and I are paying all his living expenses including for his medical care which has involved a forced hospitalization due to severe psychosis.) This kind of situation should be handled on a case by case basis by someone who can listen to the specific facts of the case for that specific person. Cynthia Kinsel should not be in her role and should be ashamed of herself. My mother (a military veteran and retiree) and I (a cancer survivor with numerous medical issues and disabilities) are now looking at having to pay $35,000+ while struggling to pay for my brother's living expenses and medical care. This is despicable and devastating for all of us, especially my disabled brother who is the one who suffers the most from Cynthia's refusal to even consider his specific situation or offer viable solutions. Cynthia Kinsel should be reprimanded and removed from her current position and the SSA should be ashamed of how they have handled (and continue to handle) this case. read more

This is the only SSC OFFICE in all of Colorado Springs.... The other reviews are spot on, 1. Make sure you have a mask because they require one. The security here is extremely over board. There are 3 security guards that work this building and they treat you like you are a criminal and are extremely rude!!!!! When you finally get in you have to use a kiosk to sign, when they finally call your number to the desk the agent than says I'm only checking you in Sir,than what is the purpose of the kiosk??? Just from a person coming from California, the staff and security guards were fairly nice. I believe that they try their best to make sure the lines, even though they are indeed long, are moved along quickly to make sure everyone is checked for weed, guns, and knives. Also, FYI: - You can make an appointment ahead of time, depending on your visit. - To get a number, check in the small area where the two kiosks are at. The security guards will let you know. - To get a new or replacement Social Security Card, make sure you fill out an application first, which is located on the far corner, before you are called to your window. - Bring your own pen! They don't provide any pens. There was one, but it went missing, and it was a wait just to fill out an application with that one pen. - You can print an application online and fill it ahead of time. - Be prepared to wait 2 hours.. bring a book or charge your phone. - If you want to change your last name on a social security card, bring your marriage license and a driver's license. - It takes a long time because they are very under-staffed, but the employees there are friendly. read more

This public service facility needs to improve its customer service. Customers are initially greeted by security guards that are not friendly or helpful. The instructions for registering are vague, and good luck to those that don't speak English or Spanish in figuring out the registration process. The facility itself was crowded and dirty. The intercom system was hard to hear. The staff seemed reasonably competent but not too courteous. The lines were long, too long. I was struggling to keep my kids entertained and when one started crying, the oldest, fattest officer there had the audacity to tell me to leave even though he had no grounds to do so (I called and asked to speak to a supervisor who informed me that he was not allowed to ask me to leave because of a child). Notified I would be put on medicare early and forced to pay $288/mth for Part B (based on incorrect information). With my Adjusted Gross Income I should not have to pay more than the base amount of $144/mth. Called the Colorado Springs Social Security Administration and asked for an appointment. A Mrs. Wager stated that they do not do appointments, only walk-in and wait for hours in line. I told her I knew better. Then she stated "We do not make appointments for people like you". I needed a replacement SS card and didn't want to mail in my passport, so going to the office in person with my ID and paperwork was the only option. The SSA office was nicer and much bigger than I expected. The parking lot seemed newly painted, and though there were lots of cars, I didn't have a problem finding a spot. Upon entering, they have a metal detector, and the friendly guards checked my purse. Immediately after the guard station is the computer kiosk to check in. The computer asked a small number of questions to determine the purpose of my visit, and then it printed a receipt with my number on it. The waiting chairs are really uncomfortable. The staff calls out the numbers, so everyone had to listen carefully (unlike the DMV, where they have numbers displayed helpfully on large screens). Once I was finally called on a busy Thursday afternoon (1 hr wait), it took them less than 5 minutes to process my request. Very smooth. And within a week, I had my replacement card in the mail. Definitely not the attitude you need after already being in line for an hour and waiting longer inside. He needs to control it if he is working with people. My poor rating is due to security Guard who was literally rude to every single person that came to the door . Due to continuous Covid protocols door is locked and one must make an appointment. I made an appointment for a large group due to Work. Anyways my job coordinated everything got the appointments, pre filled applications , and I was outside with the group making line to make sure all went well while we waited to go inside the building . So I stood outside for about 90 mins and witnessed security guard be rude to every single person at the door . His approach is not okay , but This falls on management and for them only to fix . I went on a Thursday when the web page said they were less busy than usual. Upon arrival the place is packed. Every seat is taken and people were sitting on the floor and standing against the wall. You're not allowed to ask the guards any questions because they are a security company and don't know anything about SSA itself. There is only a kiosk with 4 choices. If none really apply to why you're there and you take a guess at the closest related issue, after over a 2 hour wait, that person is only going to be mad because you chose the wrong option. Like this is something I do on a regular basis. Also after over a 2 hour wait you can expect for them to be done with you in 90 seconds or less. Only part of the whole experience that quick. Refusal to help with what I needed. 30 windows and maybe 5 open. You're not supposed to have food or drink so good luck if your sugar should drop while you are there. They will call your number as soon as you faint. If I could rate it zero I would. The whole experience just sickened me. read more

First of all, this is a government building of course there will be security. I came in to get my last name changed due to marriage. I brought all the proper paperwork necessary. It took less than an hour from the time I arrived. The gentleman who helped me was very curious and professional. From observing other people who arrived at the office I have to say they were not prepared. Make sure you fill out an application for a security card, go on the webpage to ensure you have all your documents before you go to social security. I'm not sure how their system works, but my number, to replace a social security card was "A". There were no numbers called for A in over an hour. When I was finally called, the transaction took less than 5 minutes. I did not leave the office until 1115. Over 2 hours. there seemed to be no organization. I remember going about 10 years ago, I walked in and walked out in less than 20 minutes. I don't know what happened. read more

Visited this office for the second time, this time on behalf of my son, and the service we received from the agent assisting us could not have been better. She was amazing, going above and beyond to make sure we understood our options, and to make us both feel comfortable. We appreciate the time and care invested in initiating an application for benefits that was overwhelmingly complex to someone unfamiliar with the process. We received a follow up phone call the following business day from an associate agent, who was similarly knowledgeable and diligent. I can't say enough good things about this experience, which echoed the excellent experience I had last Fall when receiving assistance from a different agent on a different matter.
