I arrived to the place at 8:45 am. There was a line out to the parking lot that curved around the entrance gate. I could not believe how many people were already there before the 9:00 am opening. Once the doors opened, the security guard came out calling for those with appointments. Honestly, my day at SS was quick. It was a steamy 20 minute wait (the line to get in the door was long), but I was out the door by 9:43. I only needed to go to have my name changed due to marriage, so I am unsure how long it takes for other needs. You will get your card in the mail. If I had any recommendations, it would be to make an appointment or try your best to do what you need online. There are three offices now that offer card services even though the website does not state the same at this time. I honestly feel for government employees- it's not a job that I imagine makes you go home happy at the end of the day. It has to be tiring dealing with people day in and day out. Went in out a Tuesday around 1. Wasn't a fan that there's only 1 parking lot & you have to find the entrance of building 100. After the nice little walk I had abut 50 people in front of me. Wait wasn't that bad at all, under an hour. I kinda wish the wait was longer because the people that go in there are a mess. The security guard clearly didn't like children because he got on to kids for screaming and running, jumping etc. I say he didn't like them because of his tone. Even tho the parents should really be the ones telling the kids to behave. Oh, and the guard wasn't scared to get into lowkey arguments with people that came in & asked questions about where they should go. He's really good at smart remarks. The guy that helped me was um.. Odd to say the least. No social skills whatsoever which really confused me. Anyways, decent waiting times, mean security guard, and great for people watching. I couldn't get there early, and was really dreading the huge lines I heard about. I was just there to get a replacement Social Security Card. I arrived about 11:50 on 9/19/18. No line out the door - good. Went straight through and showed the guy my ID., and he gave me a number. A whole lobby full of people. Reminded me of the DMV. But low and behold they called my number and I was out of there within 15 minutes total. It was great. They were saying there was a crazy guy outside; but the security guys were all over it., and I never saw him. Easy experience. read more

Came here today to get a new social for my newborn son. Parents know how precious time out is, having to lug around multiple kids. Well the guy working booth number 5 younger gentleman with a black beard clean cut hair- you need to slow your roll and pay attention to the documents we bring you. They don't accept birth certificates and He kept on telling me he doesn't accept documents from the hospital and I told him I got something from the dr. And he kept saying no documents from the hospital. I pulled an immunization paper I got from my dr But he said it has to be stamped. So I went down to my dr to get my sons immunization record and what do you know!!!!!!!!! It was the same damn document. Not only did you waste my time but gas also I live on the south side of town. So parents of children trying to get a social security card. If you call the 899 social security number they will tell you birth certificates are ok but it's not and be sure to Bring your immunization records stamped. read more

THIS OFFICE IS NOT OPEN! Do not waste your time & come here or to any other social security office. They want you to call the office to set an appointment but when you call it says "the number is busy" and hangs up. You call the toll free number and IF you get through to someone, they tell you to send your PERSONAL AND SENSITIVE documents (ID, birth certificate), originals by the way no copies, via mail to their office. What a waste and strain on people who need these services only to get the runaround. read more

Considering the last time I went to a SS office, it was in North town in the HOOD, I can NOT complain about my most recent experience. A new location (well not new, but not the old one that Vegas natives are use to) at Buffalo and Charleston. I hear the parking lot fills up but I had no issues getting a spot in the lot. I went at about 11am on a Monday. My expectations were not at all high. I was planning on waiting, and even told my daughter to bring headphones or something to read. We were number 204, and they were calling 116. Great, about 100 people in front of me. As I scrambled to find a seat in the sea of unhappy people I notice they were already at 122 and had about 8-10 windows open. A glimmer of hope. Within 40 minutes in the super uncomfortable metal chairs, I was about 5 numbers away. The gentleman I dealt with was very helpful and kind. He answered all my questions as I was there for a card replacement but it was under very odd circumstances. I was at the counter about 20 minutes when most were out in 5-10. However the pleasantness of the staff did not bring any impatience at all. The security looked useless and confused. Had anyone actually brought a gun, or started a fight, I am not too sure they would be able to control the situation. They are more there for presence or to answer silly questions. Overall, I did not have a bad time at all. No one enjoys coming to a place like this, but they stepped their game up. So I will take it in stride and enjoy! Sorry for those who had to wait hours, I can see how that could be possible, guess I got lucky. read more

19 windows and just a few that are open. How lame is that?! I was expecting like a DMV wait, thankfully they are going through the numbers a little quicker. It's the day after Christmas so perhaps that is why it is not as busy. I made the mistake of going into the wrong office first, so luckily, my husband asked. When you check in, make sure you go to the self service to get your number first and then wait like a couple hours later to be called, ha! This place is not as bad as other reviewers say it is. Maybe I just went on a good day... The service was pretty fast. I was in & out in 45 minutes. When I took my number, I was fifty numbers out from who they were helping. So they were calling more than a number per minute. The person who helped me wasn't especially friendly, but he certainly wasn't rude. He just didn't make conversation, but he took care of what I needed in a timely manner, and I appreciate that more than someone taking to me about the weather. The security guard was really good about kicking out a couple who was causing drama without making a big production out of it. I did print my forms out online..everything you need is readily available on their website along with a list of documents you'll need to bring. They make it so easy, I don't know what there really is to complain about. Just go in prepared and with a good attitude, and I seriously doubt people will be rude to you. read more

When I took a second look at the receipt I was given I realized the guy who took my address down didn't put my apt number so it was sent back. This place is so small to be serving all of Las Vegas. There are not enough seats for everyone. There are so many windows & they only use like 5. There is no information desk. That makes me mad because I could have saved my last 3 visits & almost 6 total hours if there was one. Most of the employees behind the counter are not friendly & seem kind of careless.. read more

My experience was not so great. Don't get me wrong the facility is nice and kept clean but the lines are ridiculous. They have 19 windows but only have 5 windows open. What the heck? That doesn't make any sense to me knowing that it's a federal facility. You know there are programs that calculate the amount of people who come in and out of the facility so I don't understand why they can't staff accordingly!!! They also don't have enough seats available. Many people were standing up and of course this makes people grumpy and cranking. Please consider adding more seats or rearranging the wait area. After the long wait we at least got a nice staff member who helped us out so I'm grateful they weren't a jerk who gives snippy attitude. They were helpful so that is what bumped up the rating. My advice, go earlier and have breakfast first! read more

This is a joke. The Buffalo location is literally closed! Not appointment only no closed as in no workers in office lights shut off. What's worst is that when you go down to the Simmons location for assistance they won't help unless it's appointment only,you need to contact Buffalo. They don't do appointments for replacements so I had to fill out the forms and bring proper paperwork down to the drop off box, TWICE before getting a response. I finally got a letter in the mail on July 20 advising me my replacement should be here in 2 weeks. We're almost hitting a month, so when I decided to call, I got transferred for about 20 min each rep I got kept saying I was calling the wrong office. *when I was being transferred from rep to rep. Only to get a RUDE customer service rep. I was calm and all I wanted to know was the status on my card. Only for him to give me attitude telling me they just sent it out not even a week ago. And I'm making it harder on every one else by calling!!! Like ??? Excuse me I'm going based off of the ONE letter they sent me back in july. Be aware of their drink policy, bc he will freak out if you try to bring one in and demand you immediately throw it out. Warning: to anyone getting married and changing your name here, you cannot make your MAIDEN name your MIDDLE without going to court. This is per NAC 483.055 (it took me forever to find) and it is rather recent. I filled out my application prior with my maiden name as my middle. I gave the SSA worker all of my stuff, and she handed me a paper saying my new ss card would be mailed to me. Quick and easy, right? I looked at the paper she handed me and it had my middle name as my middle, not the maiden name I asked for. I immediately brought it to her attention and she said I could not use my maiden as my middle without a court order or something. Ok, so that is the case I had then learned... But TELL ME before you go ahead and change my name!!! I would not have gone through with changing it! Otherwise, the office was fine. I arrived about 20 mins before they opened. There was a line out the door. It moved quickly. Honestly I think I may been better getting there a half hour or so after they opened. My wife and I came in to get her signed up for Medicare part B (she's on disability). We took every piece of paperwork with us that we could think of. Having read some of the previous reviews, we were a little apprehensive about the security guards, long waits, rude people, etc. I have to say that we were treated in a very professional manner from the minute we walked in the door (greeted by 2 security guards) to when we spoke with the guy who gives out the numbers. We found out that we had taken the correct paperwork, gave it to the guy who gives the numbers, and he smiled and said "thanks, you're all done". The guards wished us a good day as we left. Total time spent: under 10 minutes. My advice (worth what you paid for it): take every piece of paperwork with you that you can think of. Fill it all out ahead of time. read more

It is what it is: a long, boring wait until they call your number and then they're done with you in 2 minutes. Very anticlimactic. Helpful tips: - Don't go at lunch. This will cause you to be at the SSA for 2.5 hours. - Take a book or something to occupy your time. - Don't take your children, it only creates a more hostile environment. - Help everyone out and learn what you should bring prior to showing up and fill out all necessary paperwork that can be printed off the website. This is a government office, so of course there are going to be long wait times, but once my number was called things went swimmingly! I recently got married and I needed to head to the SSA office to change my name on my social security card. I looked it up online so I knew what they needed from me to change my name and I printed and filled out the application online. So, other than the wait time, once I got up to the window, she took about 7 minutes to stamp a piece of paper and hand it to me saying "you'll receive your new card in 2 weeks". Sweet! I went in expecting the worst, and was partially right, lol. There are two separate offices, so I went to the office regarding dealing with Social Security cards. I was sure to have all of my documents ready, filled out my application online and printed it to take with me that day at 8AM. I waited in line for 1 hour outside, then waited 2 more inside until they finally called my number, only 6 windows were open! When it was finally my turn, the woman behind the counter tells me that I needed another document. So the next day, I return with the new document that I needed, and when the gentleman calls my number, he informs me that I DIDN'T need that new document after all!! =/ read more

My process at the SS office was pretty good. The wait was about an hour. I had about 175 numbers before mine, at 1:15 on a Monday. Once I got to the counter the woman that helped me was very sweet and it took about 5 min to complete. I think it was a success. Especially since I've waited for a dr longer then that! read more

if you need a replacement social security card it is the other one one door down towards Charleston. a birth certificate and a ccw does not work as a proof of identity. It needs a picture id. two of them. Even a nevada casino employee id was accepted. My experience was painless. the employees treated me well and it was about an hour and a half wait. the security guard was actually helpful even though he was private contract and wasn't their obligation. To get my replacement ssn card was free of charge this time and arrived around 10 business days later as promised. read more

Stuck in hot sun outside today due to long lines at the SSA building at the Buffalo location! Really hot long wait times. Went to get a disabled Veterans SSA card replaced per request. My wait was 3 hours long. Barely enough workers and too long wait. Mr Bueno at window 11 extremely rude and talked down to me. Did not solve or answer all the questions. He kept referring me to the online website. It's been locked up which I explained numerous times. Then advised me to have the disabled Veteran to come in? The building is not ADA compliant for large motorized wheel chair that he uses. The whole point of coming in was to help him and keep him comfortable so he did not have to go in or wait 3 hours. For the record I asked no private questions or info on the Veteran just all general and Mr. No Bueno kept implying that I was over stepping my visit. My questions were all general while respecting privacy rights and sensitive info not available understood. I then asked for a supervisor got - Daryl who was not able to speak to me in private? So I explained uncomfortably what was happening with Bueno and he too was rude abrupt and very confrontational. He never gave his last name? Anyway did not receive polite or courteous or helpful service today at all. Instead waited for 3 hours in hot sun in long lines to be talked to with sarcastic confrontation and poor attitude. No thank you. Dealing with the public is your job! Answering general questions is also your job without a rude bad attitude and side comments. No ones a 100% authority on SSA information trust me. Your job sucks I am sure. Sorry again this behavior was unacceptable and the worst experience I have ever encountered at a Social Security Office. I don't want to ever return believe me however I am there too often due to people asking and needing my help/assistance. It's not about me it's about helping others and being kind, helpful and professional getting the job done without all that.... You can miss me with it. Had to take original doc into the office for verification. Went immediately, Dec 13th., after phone call appointment. Did not wait that long. The man at the window said he would scan the doc and stamp it verified original doc and send it where it needed to go. After 3 weeks, no word about anything. Called Social Security, Jan 6th, no record of me showing original. Computer still showing I had to provide doc. Have to go for second time today. NOT GOOD!!!!! read more

I wanted to give a compliment to Liz in station #13. I am a lawyer and I had a client who needed a replacement card. I initially took my client's application and documents to the Social Security office in Henderson. That office turned the application down even though it complied with the law 100%. I took the same application and documents over to Buffalo and it was approved by Liz. She acted in accordance with the law. I can't thank her enough! I filed a complaint with the appropriate Social Security Authorities on the person who failed to approve the application in Henderson. They advised me that the employee was disciplined. I WILL NEVER GO TO THE OFFICE IN HENDERSON AGAIN ! IN MY OPINION, IT IS TOTALLY MISMANAGED! read more

TIP #1: Make sure you come to building/suite 100 if you're getting a new card. With that said, this place doesn't deserve 1 star. Let me start off with the security guards. They sit on their asses, watch people look for the check in station and don't offer to help. They watch an elderly man in a wheelchair and don't have the audacity to get their asses up to open the door for him (somebody else was nice enough to get up and hold the door open for him). Secondly, the lady that was supposed to be at the front desk was just walking around and hanging out with the security guards, cause you know that's what they get paid for. This same lady replies rudely to somebody that just walked in, I didn't catch what he asked but he was not one bit rude when asking the question. Oh by the way, no drinks are allowed (so yeah, die of dehydration while waiting for a good 2 hours or more). Also, make sure you don't bring your pepper spray with you (at least don't let it be visible). Even if you throw it away in the garbage they'll make you pick it up and take it far away from the property. read more

They open at 9am I arrived at 815. There are 2 lines. North- if you need a new or replacement social security card. South- if you need anything else. They offer applications before the doors open. Take advantage of that and have it filled out before going in. I was 20th in line but the 4th person in line to have the application done so I was bumped to the front of the line. This office houses some of the most incompetent, outlandishly rude, and obscene employees. SSN card was ordered a month ago. Sent in sensitive documents to prove my identity and waited three weeks for a new card. When the card did not arrive, I called the office and received the update of my card being on its way. I was advised that the card would arrive in a week. Of course a week later the card did not arrive so I called the office again only to be told that there was no record of my order. When I requested to speak with a supervisor, the associate became belligerent and started asking why I needed a manager. When I told him that it was because of his rude and condescending remarks he said he was not going to get a manager on the phone and hung up the phone. When I called back and requested a manager I was required to provide a phone number for a call back and was told that there were "33 other people waiting for a call from a manager. Smh this office and their employees are extremely unprofessional. Please,save yourself the head ache and go to another office. read more

One of the longest and slowest lines I have ever encountered. The wait hellish and makes the DMV feel like a day in the park. The cold room feels drab and a sense of despair hangs in the air. If I didn't know any better, I swear INS was waiting outside to deport people. With way too many people coming in and not enough seating, people were lingering outside the door and in the rocks.
