Be ready to waste at least 3 hours+ of your time and be ready for really bitchy government workers. Waited in line to be let in to get a ticket. Waited for the ticket to be called. Told that they'll set us up for an appointment so wait. Waited for our name to be called. Our name gets called and the lady at the window gave us so much attitude that it was disgusting. I applied for my ssi .back in nov2015 dont hear anything back until i call them only to find that bank card and a check were sent to an old adress. So now its april 2016. I get to the office on fontaine. They try and have a new bank card sent and cut me a in office check for wich i go to citibank o nly to hear its not in the system yet. Try to cash at wal-mart .but they dont cash checks from p.o. box's Wait 2 days and try again. And same story so back in office been waiting for 3 hours. Be prepared to wait 40-45 mins just to get inside at around 10-11am. There are 2 seperate lines. One for Appointments and the other for non appointments. Regardless if you come with an appointment or not, you'll have to wait alongside everyone else. Parking sucks. Many people that don't speak english have to wait twice to get called in, because there is no person to translate there at the window, but I'm pretty sure in the back they have people that speak other languages. Poor people come in to the Social Security Administration physically because they are older and don't know how to operate a computer to go online. I notice that some numbers that are called are never the ones that people have. I waited three hours with my grandpa just to get a piece of paper, and our number was never called. read more

Horrible! The worse to place to go to. Trying to change my last name last week and i waited for 5 hours until I gave up. That was with 45 people ahead of me. Today came back in and had to wait another 4 hours and still nothing. With today's technology... these offices need better management to know how to improve the social security process. No one has time to take days off from work to just change a last name. I'm sure if guys had to change their last name the process would have been fixed long ago. The parking lot was 3/4 full and I thought uh-oh. Walked in and the place was hopping lots of people "now serving number D-528," she said. Pulled a ticket out of the machine and it said D554. Oh no! Sat down and there were at least four and sometimes five clerks working. It didn't take as long as I thought. I moved through the line pretty quickly. Remember to go online, fill out required documents, print and bring the identification you will need. Not so bad. No drinks allowed though. I called their number 1-800-772-1213 last night because I needed help to find out how I will be able to continue my disability filing the previous night. I waited 30 minutes before a lady picked up. The lady on the phone told me that I have to start all over from the beginning and that the 1.5 hours I had spent were lost!! I asked her to verify if she was sure and she said yes. The next day, I visited the office and was informed that the lady's information was not correct and that I would have been able to continue where I left off by using a "RE-ENTRY NUMBER". Customer service phone support should not be informing people wrong information to begin with. Considering the importance of Social Security, you would think these people will be properly trained before they are allowed to pick up the phone. read more

I came here yesterday (a Tuesday) at 3:10 and was out by 3:45. I needed to come in to get a replacement social security card with my new last name and it was a super smooth (make sure you fill out the form ahead of time) interaction with the lady at the counter. Parking at this time was available too so no issues with that. read more

This place has a limited amount of parking and there's a long line. So I do suggest coming 45 mins early if you want to get things done quickly. One of my complaints about this place is that they open around 9am. I prefer earlier if possible. Once they opened, if you're trying to request a new or replace social security card, go online beforehand and start filling out the form. You will save yourself plenty of time. I think I was the 12th person in line and it took about 15 mins for them to call me. I was here to get my social replaced and it took 5 mins to complete. Be prepared to answer their interview questions to identify your parents name and your number and etc. if you are able to do all of that then you will be done in no time. It will take 2 weeks for social to mail to your house FYI. read more

From other reviews and the last time we visited years ago, we were really dreading coming here to complete my spouse' application for Social Security. Our internet exposure and attempts to call to make an appointment only served to increase our worries. The internet experience was archaic and the automated answering system was not anything near contemporary and not too helpful. It felt like they had not yet made it to the millennium yet. We did NOT make an appointment. I had planned to drop my spouse off at this local office and then look for a place to park, but on the Tuesday afternoon after 2 pm time we visited, there was parking in front and onstreet parking and no hassle even though we went in through the exit driveway which we only noticed because a car was coming to us. Going inside, there is a person stationed right at the door. Unfortunately, he was just a security guard. About to ask him a question, we noticed the two kiosks at the back left wall, one with a post-it on the monitor indicating that it was not in service. We went to the one working kiosk, got our ticket and sat down. We had planned to drop our paperwork off and leave, but because the number was only around 10 persons ahead of us, we decided to wait. While sitting, we noticed that they had a SMALL drop off box on the left side wall although it was full with a large envelope sticking out - anyone could have walked by and taken it. Instead of sticking our envelope in it, we waited since the queue was moving along. We noticed a man who walked up to a window not serving anyone and gave his envelope to the window person saying that the drop off box was full. The attendant took the envelope and we then thought we should have done that too. Soon, our number was called. We stepped up to the window and presented our paperwork. After checking the computer, we were told to go back and sit down and our name would be called. A few minutes later, we were called and our paperwork was processed on the spot. Personnel were pleasant. Everything done but stomachs grumbling, we were out the door with a quest for food. Even without an appointment, we were in and out within around 30 minutes with no need for follow up. Social Security was quicker than my trip to DMV 2 months earlier though the volume of customers was much lower. Signage could be vastly improved with better direction to the kiosk and drop off box, and they should really empty the drop off box more often (or get a bigger one what will fit a large envelope). We did see a sign on the back wall about the security guard being unable to answer questions, but maybe it should have been closer to the entrance. In short, the visit was not bad, though I was more impressed with DMV which appears to try much harder to provide good customer service and instruction. read more

This place is packed. There were about 100+ people ahead of me when I reached there at 8:45. Its a long wait inside, took me 3 hrs. The staff and security were courteous. At times, security have to assert so they can control 100's of people. Probably one could try other offices, maybe they aren't this crowded. Or come real early at 7:30 to see if it cuts down the 3 hr wait time. I doubt it though as your number will be called twice. read more

Gave up the calling them on the phone after spending countless hours on hold for weeks. Going there is quite an experience. Do take a chill pill because the wait and the treatment is a challenge. Be prepared to be offended because in their eyes you are there to rip off the system. I worked for 50 years and had full benefits coverage and was employer verified vor Medicare Part B but my monthly deposit is far less because of penalties for "lack of coverage." Visited this office weekly many times to get my proof of retirement records straightened up to no avail. No wonder they have a peace officer by their door .... they will drive you nuts! read more

This place gets really packed & busy. Be prepared for the long wait times. I came here on a Wednesday around 10:30am, I was in & out within 45 minutes. I had my name changed and I needed a new replacement card for my son. The process itself is quick & simple. I suggest signing forms before coming in or as you are waiting for your number to be called. Also, check on their website if you need to bring any paper work (birth certificate, marriage license, etc.). It tells you what you need for whatever reason you need to go in there. It makes a big difference & saves you the trip. Don't let the 10 windows fool you in the front. They have like over 40 windows in the back, they recently remodeled (not drastically) but it's a lot bigger now. Though, the waiting room is still small and you might have to stand. The workers here want to get you out as soon as possible too, so don't try to make it difficult on them. read more

Hello everbody i went here to get my son birth certificate. He is new born baby.They were suppose to send it out 1 half months ago and they didn't.The lady who helped me was demanding and talking arrogant! She was asking for rediculous proof. Ok i am the father and i do have proof of birth certificate and my photo i.d. If she sees clearly my name is on the photo i.d and on my son's birth certificate!! why would they need proof of my son ammunization record and my son hospital information where he was born? Besides i am a uniformed security guard taking time off from a lunch break to go get the social security card for son. For some reason they didnt send it on time! I try to reason with her and the lady got upset and said i was trying to argue with her lol.I am serious i didnt come to start problems but just wanted to help my son besides i have a family. she started to raise her voice and started to kick me out and said the supervisor will talk to me out there out in the lobby. Ok thats very nice lol. Almost as if they dont care about you and your not worthy to be scene right away...not fair because everybody waited in line to get assistance and when its there turn they should be helped properly. I felt that the supervisor should have came to help me and train her employees to be helpful and polite. we should be treated just like customers and family here.also working citizens like myself have helped pay for social security every year. Over the course of a life time every working American have contributed $150,000 to social security system.They tend to forget without the people putting into the government system they wouldnt have the bussiness running. They should remember we are all not cheating the system. Some of us are educated and live good normal life and not depending on social security or cheating the system.Anyway you guys wouldnt think but i had my security uniform on that day and she called security to tell me to step out side. what is this lady doing? and i myself am a good security and have helped stop many building from fires and citizens from a car crash and assist police officers and fire fighters to come to the rescue. I came to this social security office at 8:50 on a Tuesday morning to get a replacement social security card. There was little to no parking left and there were many people waiting outside prior to this office being opened. There was one line for those with appointments and one for those without. Once it was 9 and officially open, we were let in. You have to use the self check in kiosk in order to get a ticket number, appointment or no appointment. The ladies monitoring the self check area were condescending to those who needed help and acted as though people should just know what to do. Don't work here if you don't like/cannot fulfill your job, because no one wants an unpleasant experience and everyone just wants to be in and out. Being rude does not make it easier for anyone. Fortunately, I had better experience with the lady who helped me renew my card. She was very polite and efficient. I was here for a little under an hour, but expect it to be more or less depending on what you come for/what time you come. read more

I didn't think I would have a long wait after reading the other reviews about this location, but boy was I wrong! I headed over to my local Social Security Office to get my name changed since I just got married. When I got there at 11 AM on a Thursday morning (thinking this sounded like a good time to go, before the afternoon rush), the parking lot was completely full and people were even parked illegally in several places. I later learned from a sign on the door, that you can park next door to the left in a hotel's parking lot (forgot the name of the hotel, but you pass it just before getting to the SS office). I turned around and parked way up the street and walked back. A line of people extended all the way out the door and to the far end of the building, with about 80 people already waiting inside. I asked the guard if this was normal, or if there was a better time to come back when it wasn't as busy and he said that it was always like that and I wouldn't find a better time, so I ended up just waiting in line. It took me 45 minutes to even get up to the door and be let inside where I got a number. Then about another 15 minutes of waiting until I got called up to a sorting window where they took my name. And then another hour of waiting until I finally got to sit down with a person and get my application turned in for my name change. Most of the people looked like they were regulars and there to get their benefits, and a few looked like they were homeless off the streets. I was going to give a one star because the overall experience with the parking and waiting was terrible, but my interactions with the workers were actually pleasant enough. The guard walking around was friendly and would answer questions, and the lady that I finally sat down with was quite nice and got me out of there in about 5 minutes. So, they get an extra star for that. Overall though, be prepared to wait, wait, wait...then wait some more. read more

this place is so bad!! I came here yesterday to update my citizenship status. This place is testing my patience LOL. It takes about more than an hour to be called your number just to check you in then another hour for you to get your name called and process everything. It turned out that i also need to update my name because of some mistake and they only checked my passport for that. I couldn't change my brother's status bc he wasn't with me at that time. So, I came back today with my brother to also change his citizenship status and his name. then the lady is freakin really picky, although i gave her my brothers us passport, she couldn't his name because she need my dad's citizenship status or my bros birth certificate. So i was like, ok ill go back home and get it cos i lived nearby, when i came back i got a number then went up straight to her. I gve her my dad's certificate then she's like "give me your brother's citizenship certificate, this is not what i asked you to bring" i was like i dont think we have it cos my dad is the one who applied for the citizenship and we automatically became a citizen since we were under 18 at that time.
