It's not unlike the bars I grew up in - the old vinyl swivel chairs lining the bar, with a stack of glass ashtrays stacked off to the side, two pool tables with a few locals creeping around chalking their 5 piece pool cues looking for a pickup game, smoke filled and dark. We grabbed a table near the back door and the bartenders brought over a few sweating glass bottles of LandShark stuffed with lime wedges, she was friendly and attentive. There were a few small groups scattered around the bar BS'ing and slamming shots along side their chilled glasses of cheap draft. You could tell by the conversation some of these guys have been telling the same stories for years to the same group of friends and often loud enough to be heard by a few strangers like me - it seems the first liar doesn't stand a chance. Although I've been passing this bar for years this was my first time stopping in but it definitely won't be my last, they used to call these working man bars, today I'd say that could be somewhat true but I think some of the patrons probably open this bar and few others close it everyday - there were a few philosophers at the bar giving advice to whomever would listen, even if the sky was falling you wouldn't be able to tell inside here. After she walked away, I responded with Say what????? I told my husband "she really didn't just say that to us right"?? Who would not get upset about that kind of service! My husband then noticed she seemed to purposefully serve others that he guessed were local patrons and even serve a few who arrived after us. He told me to be quiet, which I did.. but she knew I was not happy. So she finally came up and my husband ordered our drinks. We were waiting for our drinks while looking over the menu and witnessing the server continuing to checking people out, talk to the person who walked right in and strode up beside me to order a to go order and walked to the other side of the bar taking other orders/checks etc. ..still no drinks...We sat there but decided whenever we FINALLY got our drinks we would go ahead and place our order right then. Then she came up and told us she would NOT be serving us and to have a good weekend and took the menus-I didn't even know what had just happened! My husband said we were being asked to leave. For what?? He said let's go and we did. I know the restaurant biz personally and how stressful it can be, but that is UNACCEPTABLE. If that hurt your feelings honey, you need another profession. And if your boss allows that behavior they are no better. Deleon Springs is a small town and I assume everyone in there knew we weren't locals, so if that's how you treat people go for it and if a diner out there wants that kind of treatment and dining experience, here's your place! We will NEVER go back. We headed right down the road and had a very nice meal at the DeLand Fish House which was equally busy and were greeted with a big smile and a warm welcome by the servers and hostess. Drinks arrived before our seat got warm and the food was excellent-Deleon Bar and Grill needs a lesson on how to treat patrons, And your server needs an even bigger lesson in customer service!
