The best ahi tacos I have ever had. We were here with a large group, a destination wedding weekend. This beach bar and grill is amazing. Glorious views of the Sea of Cortéz. Those tacos with an Asian influence like black sesame seeds and the best wasabi mayo ever. What is in those super light taco shells besides wheat...maybe rice flour? Fantastic. Great drinks. The aquachile was the best ceviche, in a restaurant, I had in Mexico so far! The sirloin cap with the bone marrow was melt in your mouth. Full of flavors and so delectable. 50% the drinks. The drinks were pretty good, but way, way overpriced for Mexico. 0% the service. We visited this restaurant upon my friends recommendation. The food is good the view is nice. The place falls very short with service. We waited there for three hours an hour and a half of which was just on dessert alone. We noticed the servers paid all of their attention on the larger parties of six or more people. OK This was a cool place with really beautiful views. That said...the food took a looooooong time. Also, the flies are super-brave around there and hit you faster than you can hit them. There's also no air conditioning on the beach of course so be prepared as the fans don't help at all. All that said, I thought the food was good. I would lean toward the steak dishes and tacos over much of the fish items next time. They have an adorable black lab running around that is a heart with fur. Also, again.... the sunset views make it all worth it. Is it a bit pricey for the area, yeah, but I think the experience makes up for the cost and I liked this place more than the other 2 on the beach row next to this. I felt like it was cleaner/safer here than those two. It may be advisable to rent jetskis and hit the water before reservations at sunset to dry off and then you'll have the perfect/cool end-of-summer experience. read more

Really really wanted to like this place but our experience was really bad. Location: the only good thing about this place. The sunset view is really beautiful and the theme and location is really nice. Now to the rest of it: We (6 adults, 2 kids) arrive and the hostess seemed bothered that we were there. She showed us where we would be sitting and asked if it was okay. It was weird and she kinda seemed to be discouraging us from eating there. She leaves us two menus (for 8 people). After about 15 minutes the waitress came over and took our drink orders. We had been waiting quite a while so we were ready to order our food too. She seemed really distracted and in a huge rush so we tried to get our drink and food order in quickly. We proceeded to wait about 15 more minutes for our drinks to come one at a time. We were mostly happy and just waiting casually for our food. After about 40 minutes (after taking our order) the waitress come by and whispers in one of the guests ears that the food will be 30 more minutes. After we ask her why, she said the orders clashed with two other large parties and it was taking the kitchen staff a long time to get the food out. We actually think she just forgot or got distracted and didn't put our order in. We were gracious and said okay... she then said she would offer us an appetizer for the wait and inconvenience. We said to bring us whatever she wanted. About 5 minutes later another waiter brought us two plates of fries. We munched and obviously needed more drink and water refills because it had been over an hour since we initially got our drinks. 10 minutes later another waiter shows up and starts refilling drinks. After an hour and 15 we get our food a few plates at a time. The food tasted like nothing. I ordered the flatbread with mushrooms and bell peppers and ricotta. Instead of ricotta they used goat cheese, which I hate! I checked the menu and it definitely said ricotta. But whatever. It was late and we were really hungry and the waiters were literally no where to be found. Everyone's food was blaaaaaand but we didn't even complain because we were so over it and just tired. We finish our food and wait 15 minutes to even be able to call the waitress over for our bill. We called over a busboy and he brought it over. The bill was soooo wrong. They charged us for the "complementary" fries and charged us more drinks and aguas than we ordered and they charged us a more expensive meal than one we had ordered. We waited 5 more minutes for the waitress to come by to talk to her about the bill but she never came. We ended up leaving the cash and just leaving. TLDR: don't go. Go to soggy peso. read more

We work for an MTK company and frequent the various restaurant in the area one week a month. We came with a big group of 12 people tonight. Everyone thought the food was the best we've had in the area. The service was wonderful. The flavors were fantastic and the presentation was exceptional. Wonderful flavor were combined to make delusions dishes. Most of us are from LA and we wish there was a place like this closer to home. The owner, Frank came out to meet us and he was very gracious. This delightful restaurant is on the beach at the end of a very poorly maintained goat track which, dependent on your view, may or may not add to the atmosphere. The beach stops at the front door, and recommences as soon as you step through the same door. There is a nice bar, quaint rustic tables and chairs, lots of sand, the sea and cool evening breezes. As a location for a restaurant it is exceptional despite the driveway. The service was quite good and although a little slow at times, it was a good fit with the relaxed beach atmosphere and promised a first class dining experience. We ordered chicken satay and grilled chillis. Both were good, tasty and well presented. My wife ordered a salad which she said was delicious. My main course was a beef bourguignon pot pie. This was interesting. The pie crust appeared to be either a pizza or flat bread dough. The filling was thin and appeared to have been thickened with corn starch rather than by heat reduction, and it seemed more soup than the hearty French stew of the classics. It was seriously deficient in taste. Desert for me was a brownie served with ice cream which was fair. My wife had creme brulee which was bloody awful. It appeared to have curdled, a fact which was somewhat lost on the wait staff. Coffee was not very nice, but the spiked hot chocolate, although served in a badly chipped mug, was very good. In summary this was a nice experience generally. The food was, again generally, quite good though somewhat expensive. There are better eateries in San Carlos, but few places can equal the atmosphere. Sadly, atmosphere sandwiches don't have much impact on a hungry stomach. Still, we will be back for another try probably during the day, and if the rating improves I will let you all know. read more

I usually like coming to this area to dine and hang out. However, our experience tonight really left something to be desired. We have eaten here before, but I have to give the place only 2 stars for the following reasons..... 1. Pay for parking....in an open lot - this is ridiculous and needs to be eliminated. Makes me want to go somewhere else. 2. Slow Service - The waitstaff was under staffed. Only two waiters for the entire (and busy) restaurant. In addition, it appeared they had to help in the kitchen to plate food. We waited over an hour for our food to come. 3. Cool Food - From our table I could see them plate food. Some of our order came up and just sat and sat....and sat. A good 15 minutes before other food was ready. Wasn't under heat lamps, just on a table. By the time it showed up it wasn't hot - but luke warm. I don't think we will be back anytime soon. read more

Then they picked up empty drinks without asking if we wanted any more. It was a long wait for food and also had a couple incorrect orders or overcooked steak. They did fix the overcooked steak, but were annoyed at having to do so. When other tables left, the big guy in charge was very pleasant and thanked them. When we paid our bill with 20% tip, the big guy pretty much ripped it out of our hands without saying a word. I felt like we were singled out for some reason. And he never said a word to us as we left. I'd like to also mention the big guy was quite the bully to the wait staff. read more

Love this place. It's on the beach next to a bunch of bars and restaurants and the sunset view is breathtaking every night. They have delicious specialty cocktails and a nice selection of very good tequilas for a VERY reasonable price (shot of Don Julio 70 for $7... Ok). Prices generally are going to be a little more expensive than anywhere else around the beach area. The cucumber martinis was deliciously crafted with watermelon. Boyfriend enjoyed his negrino which was quite refreshing. Food is yummy! We order the chips with blue cheese to share as a table. The burgers were delicious and really the whole menu is open season for a great dinner. read more

We have been longtime fans of your establishment and eat at Sunset on every trip and generously tip the staff. Tonight we came for dinner for my daughters birthday expecting a nice evening. The restaurant was busy but we were seated quickly. it was about 15 minutes until a lady dropped off menus but it was ok we enjoyed the sunset and waited patiently. It was another 30 minutes before someone came to take our order but again we were patient and enjoyed the ambiance. He took our drink and food order and then never came to our table again. He looked in the direction of our table a few times but seemed to be avoiding our table. In fact it seemed that all staff avoided our table. After being seated an hour and a half we decided to leave. On the way out I explained to the hostess to please cancel our order that we had waited an hour and a half with no service and were going to go somewhere else. It was supposed to be a special evening for my daughter's 16th birthday and instead we were treated terribly at one of our favorite spots in SC. We are terribly disappointed. read more

Had dinner at this place last night, I had been here before and had a decent experience but this time while in San Carlos my friends and I had the worst customer service here. Our patience was being tested after waiting 2 hours for a table (we should have left at this point) but things just kept getting worse by the minute, after being seated at a table that was short 1 chair, we waited another 20 minutes before going to ask the hostess if we were going to get a server, a server came over and took our order only for us to find out ANOTHER 15 MINUTES LATER that he didn't understand us and never put the order in. We asked to see the manager repeatedly but he never showed up to talk to us... we were baffled at the complete disregard for the customer, which is a shame as the food was not too bad and the ambience was good. This beach site place was highly recommended. Beef was good. Chili-fries very good. However the seafood bisque was terrible,and the fresh yellow tail tuna was over-cooked when asked for medium-Rare. So I sent medium-well back; my friend didn't and will never return...Very disappointed. Staff was very helpful. Have blankets when cool. So i chased a big guy who works there I asked him for a table he just said i don't have & walked away. i waited around for like 15 minutes wondering if anyone was gonna take my name at least to put me on waiting list.. i asked another guy & he just said let me see & walked away as well. I understand if a place is busy but it's unacceptable to just ignore clients. Since we had kids we stayed waiting/wondering. We asked 4 different people they all just ignored. We sat down in a living room & asked one of the waitress for french fries for the kids, 1 hr later we just left. No table, no food, no service. & of course they had tables! Long story short! The service was very uptight about the time of our arrival, we arrived at a 6:45 and they report that we had to order food by 7:20 and last drinks by 7:30 to be out by curfew at 8:00 pm. Waiter was very insistent to adhere to there guidelines and we were given one drink menu and one food menu and the waiter was 2 feet away waiting ... when we finally got our first drinks the waiter want to know what the food order was and then he waited right by the table waiting while we looked at the one menu and tried to order food, then we ordered and then he ask if we wanted to order more drinks and then delivered our second drink and then was told I had 5 minutes to drink the drink, by now I had two in front of me! I haven't even mention the food, my son ordered a burger and it was literally a small sampler burger you get three of them at Chili's, but it was only one. I got the ribs, literally only ribs and was left looking at my son's fries! He was in no mood to share with the small burger. My wife and Daughter got flatbreads and I was not impressed with either. The best part of this place is the beach but was roped off secondary to the precautions about gathering on the beach. So you are rushed out the door and you can't even enjoy the sunset. Do yourself a favor and stay away. read more

I go to San Carlos several times a year and I always have to make a trip to Sunset at least once (usually twice)!! Not only is the food amazing, but their cocktail menu is delicious! The cucumber martini is the best!!! I would tell anyone who comes to San Carlos to definitely make a dinner stop here.
