I have never visited this store in person. I discovered it on Instagram when I fell through a…read morerabbit hole. The aesthetic of the shop and the product offering (great fifty items, a lot of local products, fun greeting cards, plants!) is what drew me to follow them. Having a "Visit Ridgewood Day" and and shop and Stay Forever was on my to-do list this spring, but now we're all grounded. I was so happy to see that the owners took a creative way to drum up some business during a very uncertain time but selling all types of care packages. I decided to buy a surprise box for my friend, and she loved it. It included a candle and a gorgeous spring green journal. I ended up buying three more boxes for my friends' children; I cannot wait to see the pics of their loot from Stay Forever. I will definitely be visiting this local women-owned business when things get better.

However, I had a really frustrating experience recently regarding their return policy. A high-end item was placed in a bucket on the floor, where the price was not visible and the price sign of a neighboring item was visible instead of that particular item. Because the store was crowded, and they don't print receipts, I didn't catch the massive price jump at the register until after I paid. When I immediately went back inside to return the item and explain the misleading signage setup, I was told they only offer store credit or gift cards- No refunds. For an independent local boutique, a completely inflexible 'No refund' policy for an honest, immediate mistake leaves a really bad taste in your mouth. If you shop here, just be sure to double-check the price of absolutely everything at the register before you hand over your payment, because once they have your money, you are stuck with it. UPDATE: The owner publicly responded with a smooth, passive-aggressive spin claiming they are 'totally flexible' and that returns are always allowed. However, she then privately messaged me a completely different story, admitting: 'While we do have a no refund policy... we do issue refunds for same day returns.'So, my original review was entirely accurate. The owner lied publicly to save face while admitting the truth in my DMs. She also condescendingly noted that the 'great thing about shopping small' is that the owners are 'one short email away.' But who should have to track down an owner's email inbox just to get basic, standard customer service? A customer shouldn't have to do extra labor to bypass an untrained staff member. The owner privately admitted she left two completely brand-new employees working totally solo during a hectic weekend shift. Leaving untrained staff alone to run a busy store isn't 'flexibility'--it's a massive management failure that directly results in misleading pricing and stressed-out customers and employees. While she privately apologized, the fact remains that their system is broken. It is not convenient for me to travel back to Ridgewood to fix a store error. I am keeping the item, but the review stays up as a historical record of terrible management.

The neighborhood used to have so many card/gift stores, but this is the only one left standing. The variety of things you'll find here, especially items during the holidays, is massive and unique! Right after Halloween, I got a Chucky plush doll for $17. The kind and helpful older gentleman behind the cash register was extremely helpful and was looking around the store for other Childs Play themed items for me, even though I didn't ask! Lots of collectibles, Hallmark cards, candy, and just about everything else. There are 2 other people there helping, and they were nice enough. If you use your card, there will be a fee, so bring cash if you want to avoid that. Otherwise, come here and have a great time browsing!

A broad range of Melissa & Doug items make for solid children's gifts on the classy side. (Recently, I bought a spin art set for a niece that reminded me of my favorite Times Square attraction when it was exciting, forbidden and a little dangerous. I wish I could see her parents' faces when she squirts paint on a spinning palette in the middle of their living room.) But the store also carries a line of kitschy magic items and gag gifts (think: fart-flavored chewing gum) that will amuse the kid in all of us. Their card selection is also extensive and seems to have much more personality than the average chain retailer or drugstore. By far, the coolest things I saw in the last couple of visits were the real, live, tiny frogs for sale on the front counter. Maybe the size of a grape, these amphibians were lively, cute and fascinating to watch. If our kids were older and were past the point where they might consider them a tasty snack, I would've bought them right away ... but I'm not sure if the frogs would be for me, or for them. Don't buy your cards or last-minute gifts anywhere else! This place is a treasure.

I was a bad sister and got on it only the day before... I crossed my fingers that I could find a way to order something good and get it delivered to them in basically 24 hour turnaround! Long shot. Jacky heard my plea and was able to squeeze me in so that the gift wouldn't have to be belated! I don't want to get Jacky in trouble that 24 hrs on a busy weekend should necessarily always be expected or demanded. Rather, just an example of her having been very accommodating. I lucked out. She made a beautiful arrangement of wine and chocolate/crackers/nuts.. The final product turned out exactly as I hoped for :) NOTE: these are not pre-made basket arrangements she just has a supply of. She makes these to-order. Hence my high opinion. It felt like (and I hope that this is conveyed as i intend it to, as a good thing) I had called a tasteful expedient buddy of mine in NYC to help me out in a bind. Granted, in this scenario it was for the price of the basket, of course :). Thanks Jacky!
