I reached out to them to get a $650 dress slightly adjusted and hemmed. This was not a complicated alteration as I as assured by the professional I ended up hiring (about 2h of work). Susan quoted me over $1200 for this adjustment, and when I said this was more expensive than my dress cost, I received the most unprofessional and rude response and was quite taken aback. "Yes, we pay humans who live and eat and pay rent in the United States, which is very different from the people who made your dress so it is usual that for dresses under $1000 alterations cost more than the dress. Good luck with your hunt." They don't know where I got my dress from, and I'm also someone living in NYC and doing my best. I think people are allowed to charge what they want or think their skill is worth, but I also think the wedding industry has lost their minds. I found an independent professional who did a beautiful job and charged a fair price. I have other dresses to be adjusted until my big day, and had considered saving them if I needed help for my main dress which will be more expensive, but based on this rude and entitled response, I already know to never go back to this business again. read more

The owner of The Wedding Dresser, charges high prices for reasons I cannot comprehend. I brought my dress to Susan and agreed to pay her $1600 for quite a few alterations. I asked to stop the alterations because I could not afford to move forward. Susan said no problem and that the hem was done. When I picked up my dress, the hem was not finished, only the inner layers of the dress had been hemmed and they'd been hemmed WRONG! They were ascending rather than descending. This incorrect hem cost me $750 (1/2 of the total which is very high pricing!) but because I did not have an itemized receipt (though I asked for one) that price shocked me. The top layer was the shortest and they got longer from there so they were ascending rather than descending which is not how I brought the dress in or how wedding dresses are supposed to be hemmed. I called Susan, assuming it had to be a mistake, but she refused to fix her mistake. I found a seamstress to complete all alterations for 1/8 of the price. Susan had google remove my review threatening to sue me for defamation and extortion but I don't want her money, nor did I ever threaten her or lie. I just don't want others to have the experience I had. Google is biased and sides with business often. Customer service is all I ever asked for and wanted, a simple apology, any kind of offer to adjust the incorrect hem would have been more than enough. read more

Long story short, the bridal shop I ordered my dress from in Korea sent me the wrong bride's dress (I'm a size 2 and they sent me a size 10) and had to put in a rush order with the designer to create a brand new dress for me. Less than a month before my wedding, I still didn't have my wedding dress in hand. Last night I made an appointment with Susan, the owner of the Wedding Dresser, and today we met on Zoom. Susan and I ended up chatting for an HOUR. I'm definitely a "no frills" bride, I hardly even want to spend any money on a dress, let alone hundreds of dollars. But we've invited so many people to our wedding that there will be 100+ guests. Susan helped calm me down and explained how to shop for wedding dresses online, she even found one for me at Dillard's for $75, and explained that I can come into their shop for tailoring/accessories once I have a dress. My daughters wedding was early September. This issue has passed and you should have made it right at the appropriate time, not when a negative yelp review is published. Let me refresh your memory. At the first fitting alterations were discussed and a plan was made. These were standard alterations as defined by the wedding dressers website. At the second fitting the dress was taken in too much and needed to be let out in the waist and hips. We also gave your team extra beading to be added to the train. The third fitting my daughter put on her dress to find out it was taken in a half inch instead of let out as discussed in the second fitting. Susan pointed out that this was a mistake made by her team. The beading was not sewn on to the train and the team was unaware of where it had to be placed (as defined in the second fitting). We also had to point out the sag in fabric in the chest and asked for cups to be added. When the cups were added they but not sewn symmetrically. At this point, it had felt like we had to ask for everything and point out our hesitancies with the dress alterations. My daughter was also in tears by this point. At the third fitting Susan said she would do right by us for the issues that we had had up to this point. Finally at the fourth fitting when we went to pick the dress up, we noticed dirt on the train. The cups had to be adjusted (as they weren't placed symmetrically-still) and the beading still wasn't sewn on We pointed out the dirt and got pushback from the seamstress. She reluctantly cleaned it but not all of it as we noticed another stain. More pushback before she took the dress back to clean. We asked the team to steam the dress after the dirt was removed and they refused as this was done after the third fitting. What was most disappointing was Susan not being present for 2 out of the 4 fittings. When it came time for payment Susan was not present,and it was the end of day. Her assistant was not aware of any deduction for our trouble. Instead of offering to call Susan we had to insist she get a hold of her. Finally we were offered 10% off of $1,250 standard alteration services. Overall the level of service and attention to detail did not match the price point The Wedding Dresser charges for services. read more

Honestly I would give this place zero stars if I could. Where do I start? I waited close to 40 minutes over for them to take me. When Susan took me, she quickly rushed me from consultation to fitting before I had a chance to process that she was quoting me almost 1200 on my 1500 dress. After getting quotes from multiple other places I realized how much they were over-charging me. I asked for a refund, which they gave us but then charged us a 100 for the fitting. It would have ended there, but Susan then left six pins in my dress which left me with scratches on my legs. My fiancé called the business, because he was upset by the whole situation in which he overheard them laughing that I was cut by their pins. The fact that they laughed over their carelessness, charging more than double out there and the sheer rudeness of Susan. Just do yourself a favor, industry city has great food and other stuff to do. My wedding was May 2022. I read about this place in a New York Times article so I thought it would be safe, but I'm sad to say that I had an awful experience. It's not easy working with Susan. I suggest finding somewhere else with better customer service. Susan is very defensive about the alterations. In my final fitting, I noticed the seams on the bust, on the left and right side, were not even. It took numerous long-winded discussions in person, on the phone, and over email/text to convince her fix the issue. Because Susan refused to acknowledge my concerns, I recruited my stepmom to help try to convince Susan to fix it. The entire time, Susan tried to make us feel that the issue was all in our heads. In one of the email exchanges with my stepmom, Susan called me "hysterical." As I no longer felt I could rely on Susan, I reached out to other seamstresses as a backup. I showed them the pictures of the dress and they immediately understood the issue and how to fix it. To this day, I don't understand why Susan was being so difficult. To her credit, after all her objection and argument, she did fix the issue and I'm grateful for that. But it was a terrible customer experience and an incredible amount of added stress the week before my wedding. What's more, she and her team created stains on my dress. At my 2nd fitting, someone else's blood was on the dress. At my 3rd fitting, there was some unidentified brownish splotch. Both times, Susan tried to blame it on me. I purchased my dress from BHLDN as a bride with a budget and learned quickly that I hadn't thought too much about getting alterations. I panicked when I started researching of how much alterations could go for, and was instantly relieved after I contacted Susan. I sent her the link to my dress, and she was able to assess a quote and cost, giving me a range. Luckily I only needed minimal alterations. I live in Brooklyn and was overjoyed that I wouldn't have to travel to Manhattan. It's in a creative space in an industrial building with a food hall with much to do in case you want to hang out in the area. Finding the suite was pretty simple and the Wedding Dresser space was also nice. There's a little storefront area with accessories, jewelry, cover ups, and all sorts of other bits that are available. There's no waiting area to sit-- not that it's necessary! Everybody is very sweet and accommodating, since it's appointment-only you're greeted and called upon by your name. I was surprised that Susan herself tended to each of her clients, in addition to the other staff. Skylar, Isis and Tressa were also very helpful and kind. I ended up supplying the cups I wanted for my dress and they sewed them in and took in the top to accommodate my bust that's on the smaller side. I also had a short sweep train that Susan suggested we add a minor bustle, which worked out well amd perfectly matched the aesthetic of the dress. The alterations were done quickly-- I dropped it off in May and got it back later that month (I forget what the actual time frame since this was all so long ago!). My wedding was in September so you can imagine how many times I got to sneak on some tries at home. I tried it on at least once a week-- so much that the cup strings got undone but I reinforced them since it's pretty basic. I bought my dress as a sample from BHLDN. It was a style that had been discontinued, but when the stylist put it on my body, I knew it was the one for me, despite being a couple sizes too big. From the very beginning, Susan and her team were kind, transparent, and professional. The dress needed to be taken in at the bodice, hemmed, bustled, and trimmed. At the last fitting, everything had been done except for the trimming, which they turned around in under 24 hours. I told them I would come by the next day to pick up my dress, but when they hadn't heard from me within a few hours of closing time the next day, they called to ask about my plans and offer to deliver the dress to me. Susan herself delivered my dress, free of charge, and with a big hug, wished me a wonderful wedding. I came to Susan with a vintage wedding dress that my husband's grandmother had worn in 1954. The major issue was that she was about 6 inches taller than me as well as much smaller through the hips since she got married at 19. I had previously taken the dress to a very expensive bridal boutique in Washington, DC and there only suggestion was to add lacing up the back of the dress which would have destroyed the vintage style of the dress. My mother-in-law found Susan through the NYTimes. Talking to Susan was night and day from my experience in DC. My first appointment was in her mother's home in Baltimore while she was in the area. We decided to shorten the dress to tea length and use the material to make gussets to let out the dress. She also did the alterations for about half the price quoted by the boutique in DC. I had no issues with their booking system, and they are located in Industry City, a fun and easy-to-get-to place in BK. Susan and her team are very prompt and professional at each fitting. Extremely happy with my experience with Susan, Tressa, and the gang! Forgive not posting photos yet-- will add after the wedding. I bought a used dress online from a woman who, despite being my size, was clearly a taller/bigger girl than me. I gave it to Susan, and the end result is a dress that looks like it was made for me despite going through likely 3-4 rounds of alterations for two different bodies. Susan's team even made videos on my phone of how to fix the corset and tie up the bustle for my bridesmaids, which I am extremely grateful for. Susan and her apprentices (sorry I didn't catch your names!) are friendly and totally lack the creepiness that I found at a lot of other wedding vendors. Finding people in the wedding industry who aren't automatons has been one of the harder parts of wedding planning for me and I was really happy to find Susan and her team not only because of their skill, but because they made me feel really comfortable. If you want to feel like you are getting your dress done by a talented family friend you are lucky to have, and not Sandra Bullock's best friend in every romcom, this is the place for you. Like some others, I did pay more for the alterations than the dress, but the total for dress + alternations was still far cheaper than buying a new dress and altering it. I felt like Susan was looking out for me financially and never offered anything unnecessary or urged me to cut corners. Thanks team! read more

Unfortunately I did not have the best experience here. Things started off OK, but it was the day I was supposed to pick up my dress, months after I dropped it off, when I called to change my appointment time and the team told me that they hadn't started on my dress. My dress required very minor alterations- the main adjustment was sewing on buttons that I brought with me as my dress was originally a sample with missing buttons. When they realized that they had made a mistake by not working on my dress, they said not to worry, they could do everything that day and I could pick it up in the evening. I guess this should have raised a red flag for me, because about 5 minutes into wearing my wedding dress, the buttons began popping off. Within the first hour, half the buttons were missing. Needless to say, it was very upsetting. Perhaps if things had gone according to plan, the work would have been good.. But this work was rushed and as a result, the quality was poor. It was also incredibly expensive, but I guess that is to be expected in NYC. read more

I remember going in for a Consultation and she was so rude plus she made a stain on my WHITE dress. I told her and she said "it wasn't me that made that stain, you sure it wasn't your hand." Long story short don't wast your time coming here. read more
