My mother was a patient at Runnymede Healthcare Centre this past summer. While she was excited to…read morehave her rehabilitation at this state-of-the-art facility, she encountered less than standard care with her personal hygiene needs. She developed a bedsore, became ill and was transferred back to hospital. While the excellent care provided in Hospital healed her infection, and started to heal her bedsore, she decided to enter into palliative care. She was able to transition to her home to spend her last days amongst those she loved. Our advice is for the family to be questioning, present as much as possible and insist on being given the specific medical information about their loved one's health. The nursing staff for the most part is excellent, as are the O.T./PT.'s. Clearly there was a lapse in patient observations being documented, communicated and acted upon.

But in fact, I got excellent treatment from all the staff at the center, including nurses, support workers, cleaning and kitchen staff. The doctor who took care of my health came to see me and answered questions every time I asked to see her. And the administration lady was also present to assist me. I have nothing but words of gratitude for the entire team at this incredible health center. Well, if I know everything, why do I need a doctor? If I have medical questions, isn't he the one I should ask? He made me think that I should not question things. His attitude made me very sick. I don't think this is the right attitude a practitioner should have. After each appointment, I always felt quite bad, stupid about myself and angry. Secondly, my family friend is a MD as well in Ontario. One time I showed him the prescription Dr. Lai prescribed. The family friend check up my body, see my prescription history (Shopper Drug Mart has detailed prescription history) and questioned why Dr. Lai often prescribed me such strong medication. Also, Dr. Lai likes to use newly-developed drug. I don't think there is anything wrong to try it, but he used too often on me and I am still young!! Just to let you readers know that the lighter drug prescirbed by another doctor now works fine for me. It's better to play safe, don't you think? Well yes Dr. Lai is quick and knowledgeable. This is what a MD should be. I just wish Dr. Lai luck. I am no longer his patient. Though I need to wait long for appointments at my current MD's, I feel a lot better and definitely feel safer. Dr. Lai, if you are reading this, please be considerate. You have the power, but use it wisely.
