OMG this anesthesiologist HURT me so badly!! They SHAMED me for being a pot smoker, jabbed me like 5 times and fished around in my skin, then he warned me it was going to hurt and the only thing that will stop it is passing out and just injected me with what felt like liquid fire and I was screaming through gritted teeth because he told me I should be able to not scream. Terrible place. I waited 2 hours for a colonoscopy procedure. This is the 4th time I have had this procedure and have never waited anywhere else before. After an hour and a half I complained and they took me in, set me up for the procedure and then I waited a further half hour. When I was leaving, I heard another person complaining about how long they had been waiting. I will never go back here again. read more

I had a five star experience with Dr Tassis, Dr Malias and staff. The bedside manner of all involved was superb.

One can rarely say one has 'enjoyed' a colonoscopy, but these good folks will do their best. Just had one today, and Dr. Win and her team taught me a lot about how things work in the digestive tract, how to stay healthy, and all done ON TIME (nice!) and with a generous sense of humour and outstanding professionalism. Take time to properly prepare, then go and learn something about how your body works, see yourself from the inside-out and be very kindly and gently treated by the entire team at Upper Canada. If you need to have one of these procedures done, the folks at Upper Canada seem to do MUCH better than another, well-known downtown clinic, based on family experience. Thanks, Dr. Win! My experience on the morning of my colonoscopy was great. The receptionist who dealt with us first thing was well organized and even friendly although she had to deal with several folks who had arrived early and were waiting for her to open the door at 7:30. Once I entered the clinic proper, everyone who dealt with me was thoroughly professional and everything was explained so that I felt no stress at all. The procedure itself was quick and my recovery was very quick. I would have no concern about going here at all. I will say that not everyone who works at the front was friendly or even pleasant every time. I went a few days ahead to make sure I knew where I was going and that experience was not particularly calming; however, I think it's important to realize that most people who go for a procedure are under some level of stress related to not knowing what may lie ahead. Under those conditions, I feel that the staff as a whole does admirably. read more

I am writing with regards to the Richmond Hill Clinic and cannot attest for other locations. I must say that the front staff are INCREDIBLY rude and unhelpful. They in now way act as though they understand that they are dealing with sick people on the other end of the phone. I would honestly like to give them a zero rating as even 1 star is more than they deserve. I would highly recommend you find another clinic that understands compassion. I have also been dealing with them for many years and find it sad that they have not suggested we in any way try to find out why I have flares up, such a testing for celic disease or lactose intolerance. They are happy to treat us when we are sick and keep us medicated but apparently have no desire to see if they can assist us with wellness. That to me is just complete incompetence and a true lack of regard for the patient. I will definitely be looking for another clinic going forwards. read more

First off, the problem lies with the staff at the front desk who are rude on the phone and in person. The phone system is HORRIFIC - nobody picks up the phone, you need to press the buttons and leave a voicemail or just simply call back and hope somebody picks up the phone, after you go through the gazillion choices. Please don't come here, it's a disorganized chaotic nightmare. I was contacted to come in for a consultation apt. at 1:30 pm to see a GI specialist. 2 days before my apt, I was contacted and left with a voicemail saying: We want you to come in at 10:30 AM. Luckily my boss was nice to let me leave work whenever I needed to so I accepted to move my apt. ahead. I arrived and waited 20 mins after my turn and asked: is the doctor running behind, what time is my consult? The reply was: Honey, you're here for 2-2.5 hrs wait. So I replied: I am here for a consultation! Then she looked at my chart and said: right, you're next. In the end, I waited for almost an hr for my turn. So I see the GI Specialist, and after 3 minutes, no exam or whatsoever, he says I need to return for a GI endoscopy. So he walks to me to the front and booked it for the following week at 9:15 AM. To my surprise, 2 days before my apt, I was contacted and a voicemail was left on my mobile with the same rude person saying: 'We want you to come in at 7 AM.' It was a Friday afternoon so I called, left a voicemail, nobody called me back, I called back an hr later to reach a receptionist/human voice: I clearly told her that I cannot come at 7 am and I can only do the 9:15 time that was given to me, I had to do some work. She replied: Fine, but can I come in 15 minutes later at 9 AM. Sure, I replied. So the morning of my GI scope procedure, I get a voicemail from the front desk of this clinic asking if I was coming for my 7:30 apt. I called back and said: I returned your call last Friday and spoke to a receptionist and told her I cannot make it for that time. The woman replied back with: I don't see any notes about that. So I said: that's your clinic's problem and disorganization. I showed up at the clinic with my husband and asked how long was the whole procedure from A to Z: the reply was: 1.5 hr. Guess what, I was there for almost 4 hours! Nobody at the front desk informed my husband on what was happening. They had no clue why there was a backlog and should have informed And the wait time in the waiting area is horrific: it's cold so bring warm clothes and socks. I finally asked for a blanket after being on a stretcher bed for over an hour, looking out the window at a cemetary. My nurse was very nice, her name was Christine. However, there was another nurse who was rude - her name was Erika and she yelled several times at a poor patient named Richard to wake up. I looked at her and thought: you shouldn't be a nurse, you have no compassion. Finally, Anne, the nurse from the operating room, came to get me. She was very nice and apologized several times for the wait. In the operating room (OR) room, I waited like for another 30 minutes, chatted with the nurse and finally the anesthesiologist showed up. And then, Dr. Tassis, the GI specialist, came into the room. He asked why I didn't show up this morning. My reply was: I never agreed to the 7:30 AM apt, only at 9, the staff messed up. That got me irritated and mad! He apologized for the wait and said he had to cover for another doctor who couldn't manage the other OR. After the procedure, they went to get my husband, we waited for 20 mins to see Dr. Tassis who didn't have much recommendations. Nobody offered me any water, I didn't drink since the night before and luckily, my husband had a bottle ready for me. As for Dr. Tassis, who seemed overworked and tired, I would avoid seeing him at all costs cause whatever he says doesn't seem reliable or believable. There is no reassurance or guidance here on procedures, wait time, and who is doing what. Luckily, I had done a GI endoscopy before at North York General (excellent care) so I know the steps. But if you come here, be ready to be strong and ask questions, and don't accept what they tell you. If your GP refers you to this place, request another clinic at all cost. Believe me, this is a private clinic funded by OHIP and boy, they should be shut down for being a chaotic nightmare. I left the OR area with a folder in my hand given to me by the doctor and was stopped by the receptionist saying: you need to give me that, you can't take that with you. Another rude interruption. I will never again return to this clinic. Horrible nightmare! read more

Don't go there. I've gone twice now and never again. Both times dealt with unprofessional reception staff and various degrees of competency in the medical support staff. The doctors seems to be fine but little else was positive. Was greeting by a receptionist who left me standing there forever while talking to a staff member on the phone. Patients should be a priority...put the person on hold or tell the patient to sit down and you will be with them shortly. Had a badly inserted IV which lead to a VERY painful (and incomplete) Propofol infusion causing sudden hypotension and need for stabilization before continuing. These things happen but why not use a better vein, antecubital fossa rather than the hand. Made no sense to me. During the time I was being stabilized before the procedure could be re-attempted, the staff left me laying on a table for about 30 minutes in a surgical room, most of that time unsupervised, with the door to the room open and my rear end uncovered and exposed to anyone who came by. Eventually, a kind nurse came in and covered me up. The clinic is cold with no blankets. The recovery room has no privacy...everyone is laying in there without any separation/curtains. Medical histories/results discussed in front of other patients in this open setting. When you are in a situation where you do not have little control and depend on medical staff to have your rights, dignity and health considered as a priority, I'd expect better treatment than this for me and any other patient. read more

Absolutely shocking service. Staff are incompetent and highly disorganised. I've been present in the waiting area when many other patients have complained about the service. Don't follow up with positive test findings, have been waiting 1.5 months for some sort of response. Keep getting told someone will call me back, and they never do. All the while I have untreated/unmanaged GI conditions. Dr Win is extremely dismissive, gives advice not relevant to my conditions/symptoms (has similar negative reviews on ratemds). Spoke to the nurse supervisor, completely dismissed my complaints, didn't care, kept saying "moving on", and didn't acknowledge any responsibility or be apologetic. As a healthcare professional, I find the service to be extremely negligent and unprofessional. If a healthcare facility does not acknowledge any responsibility or aim to take complaints seriously, it's a strong indicator they should be avoided as patient care is not their primary concern. read more
