I have been going to Kent for cut/highlights for three years. He is a master at dealing with fine, straight hair and an expert colorist. He pays great attention to detail and can be something of a perfectionist. Do not expect the pampered salon experience if you go here. His mannerisms and decor are utilitarian in nature, but know you will get the best cut and color you've ever had, at slightly less cost than most salons in the area. Also plan for a couple of hours, he's usually works on two people at once, can get very involved in a cut or color and sometimes you'll have to wait. (or comb/blow-dry your own to speed things up). So if you want great hair, go to him. If you're looking for the princess treatment, go somewhere else. read more

I have been a regular of Soho Salon for a couple of years now and don't trust anybody else to dye or cut my hair but Kent (the owner). Kent is a very talented hair stylist & knows a great deal about color, his specialties are highlights & lowlights. He gives me a hairstyle that suits my face & won't let me leave the salon until both him and I are completely happy with the cut. The price to me is a little high compared to other Asian salons (about $45 for a regular cut) but it is definitely worth it. read more

I have been going to Kent for 7 or 8 years now. He is the only one I trust with my hair. I used to live in the area which made it convenient. Now I live in Euless which makes it a drive - but Kent is worth it. When I first moved I tried out quite a few other places (even went to a Tony and Guy) and was never satisfied for the amount I spent. My hair is very thin and if the stylist doesn't know what they are doing, I end up with hair that looks scraggly. Kent always makes my hair look great. Let me make this clear... the end result was not horrible. It was not great, but he didn't screw up my hair. However, everything else about my experience at this so-called salon was so lackluster and unprofessional. I should've known when I called to make my appt. The receptionist was anything but friendly. I made my appt. for a cut and partial highlight at 11. When I arrived I was seriously surprised at the setting. It looks like a hole in the wall nail salon, and there is zero ambiance. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I was confused because I'd only read great reviews it had received on various websites. I waited 20 minutes for him to finish with the client before me, which wasn't a huge deal because I wasn't in a hurry. I wasn't offered water or tea or anything... again that may just be me being spoiled, but if I'm waiting I need a refreshment. When I finally got in the chair, he looked at my hair and basically told me that my previous colorist (who is AMAZING, and the only reason I left her is because I moved out of state) ruined my hair. (Can I also mention I get a ton of compliments on my hair? It's sort of my pride and joy) Anyways, he told me it would be hard to fix, kept pointing out how she had apparently screwed it up, and seemed like he had no confidence in doing my hair. I was terrified to say the least. There was zero precision to his foiling, and he took way less time than my previous lady had. After I was processed, it was 1 and his next client had arrived. He said he would ask if they would wait while he cut my hair, and I told him not to worry about it-- because I really wasn't confident in his skills. I had to blow dry MY OWN hair, which probably wouldn't have been done had I not asked... (because he wasn't going to do it) and when I went to pay out, I was astonished to see that it was $90 for a partial highlight... one color... didn't even blow dry or style my hair. I have paid $80 max for a one color partial at any other salon with the perks of an experience as well as great hair. I really can't say anything nice about the place. I'm just glad the color isn't horrid, and I can goto a proper salon tomorrow for my cut. read more

Robyn W's review aptly describes the service and surrounds at Soho: utilitarian. However, when you have to correct another stylist's mistakes, you don't want commiseration--you just want the problem fixed. Kent and Hortencia have restored my hair to its proper balance after some of the crappiest styling jobs I've had the misfortune of experiencing. My last attempt at budget shopping for a colorist left me with fried chunks of hair...Soho restored my soft silky hair and suggested an excellent color suited to my face and skin tone. I don't recommend this place if you expect a glass of wine and getting fussed over while you wait. Before the end of 2011, they were seriously understaffed and I observed clients blow-drying their own hair--so not pro. Luckily they corrected that problem by hiring on an assistant. Both stylists are very quality-oriented: meaning if you're not satisfied with their work, they'll make every effort to get it the way you want. They only work on hair here; which IMO is a serious waste of real estate, since the salon has enough square-footage to add more services. If you're looking to get fully glammed up (nails, massage, wax, facials, spa), I don't recommend visiting Soho--they only do HAIR. Still they do an amazing job with cuts and colors here. I came on a Friday afternoon and just requested a hair trim, not expecting to pay much for just that. The hair stylist Kent that received me did not communicate prices to me (which I should have asked prior to his services... my mistake), but he also gave me extra layers in my hair without asking and now I hate my hair... I ended up paying $55 for a hair cut that I didn't want + a blow out that was not communicated to me. He didn't show me the back of my hair like most stylists do. He was very kind, but I didn't appreciate that he gave me extra layers without asking & charged me a ridiculous amount without communicating. Plus, a cockroach was roaming around the salon & no one seemed phased by it. Do not come to this salon. read more

Kent is the best!!! I moved here a year ago from Tampa Florida and I had had the same girl do my hair for 40 years. I was very nervous to let someone else do my hair but he made me feel very comfortable and did a great job with highlighting. I would recommend him anytime any day to anyone. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. Do NOT EVER step foot in this place. First of all, there's no website where you can see any of the prices, that's a big red flag. This man charged me $55 just for cutting off an inch (without blow drying). With blow drying it would've been $70. I think he's just ripping people off since he doesn't have a website to list the prices. On top of that he has no manners and he's just plain rude. He's just so rude and demeaning and has a very forceful personality. He may know how to cut hair but I give his customer service skills a big fat zero. I will never return ever again. read more

Our experience with this salon is pathetic , today my wife had an appointment for the hair cut and highlights at 11 but this person when we reach there Salon it was still not open we waited there outside for almost half an hour and kept calling him but no answer. If he was having any issues he should have called up in the morning and we could have rescheduled it but he didn't have any call and we wasted are time standing outside. read more

I rarely write reviews, but after trying 6 different colorists between here & Plano... I came here upon recommendation. I finally got the color I wanted! Kent actually listened to what I said and did it. It is a no frills salon, but I'm happy with the results so it doesn't matter. New to the area and finding a stylist that you like is never an easy task. I live a block away, so the location is very convenient and I decided to give them a try. I have been attended to by both Kent and Hortensia - the two stylists at the salon and have had a mixed experience The first time I needed a hair color touch up, I set up an appointment with Kent and he was able to fit me in the same day. Kent consulted with me on colour preference and began right at the appointed time. After colouring, he had his assistant wash and blow dry my hair. It was close to their closing time, and the lady didn't dry my hair well enough (let alone style them), and I had to get out in the cold with a head full of partly wet hair. On reaching home and drying out my hair, however, I noticed that the colour hadn't quite covered my grey and I called back to let Kent know that he didn't get any of the roots and the colour wasn't to my satisfaction at all (the color looked like it had already faded and was a bad shade of burnt orange). Kent casually mentioned that that could possibly be because they hadn't processed the color long enough and that I could come back and he will re-do it. While I appreciated the fact that he was accommodating and ready to rectify the problem, I would rather that a stylist/colorist be more attentive and get it right the first time. However, I was willing to give them a second chance given they were pleasant and apologetic. The second time I called Kent to make an appointment, he was out of the country and I asked Hortensia if she could take me in the same day for a cut and colour. The colour worked out fine, since I told her to colour it closer to my natural darker brown. The cut was alright but nothing to write home about. She used a razor rather than scissors to layer my hair, which wasn't exactly what I was hoping for. I have noticed that their colour starts wearing off much sooner, after just two washes than when I get my hair colored elsewhere. They are moderately priced, not expensive for the area and you can quickly get in - mostly the same day ($100 for cut and colour). However, the technique or attention to detail is not the best you can get. I might go again if I were in a hurry, but I'll continue to look for a preferred stylist. read more

I just got home from my first visit to Soho Salon. I explained to Kent what my concerns were and what I thought I needed. When he made his recommendation I honestly couldn't imagine how it could possibly work, but trusted his opinion and told him to go for it. I'm very happy I did. It has been a very long time since I have been so happy with my hair color. Kent is very talented and honest. He could have sold me a more expensive procedure, but offered what worked best. My experience with Hortensia was not good. She is not talented at layering short hair, making the layers too long, having the hair stick out instead of feathering back. Not worth her $45 price! This place should be called the So-so Salon! read more
