I spent a month training at SoHo strength lab while visited NYC and loved all the trainers there! The vibe is so relaxed/chill and everyone is so friendly. I learned so much and had the opportunity to work with three different trainers which exposed me to so many different exercises and approaches. INCREDIBLE WORKOUT!!! Went there this weekend on a Saturday for the sweat class. This was my first time going to a group workout. I run about 20 miles a week, so I am by no means in amazing shape. The class was about 10 people, it was very challenging but not impossible. Andy the instructor was amazing at giving you pointers for making the circuits harder or easier depending on your level of fitness. I will definitely be going back, it is an awesome way to break up the monotony of a workout routine, i.e. running. Also if your a fitness maniac, there were some people training there who were in ridiculous shape. read more

I did 3 personal training sessions with ***. Training was solid. Trainer was great. The gym is really barely ok. I get what they are going for but it does get pretty hot and cramped in there. If you live close enough to come and go in your gym clothes it will be much better than changing there. I would have continued but the cost, for me, is prohibitive. read more

This review is for the 39 Spring Street location. I just joined ClassPass as I want more variety and time flexibility in the classes I wanted to take. The first class I picked from this platform was Angela's Athletic HIIT. What an awesome class! Angela's routines were very well thought out and planned and everyone got a great workout. There is good camaraderie and group energy which added to the greatness of the class. Definitely will return. Update 10/22/2019: As of yesterday 10/21 SoHo Strength Lab has left ClassPass. And so my fitness studio crawl continues! I signed up for the "Speed Lab" through ClassPass and was pleased with how HARD yet satisfying the workout was. I'll be honest, it was really intimidating to walk in and see people who looked incredibly fit, with bulging biceps and pecs of steel (maybe I'm exaggerating). I was also surprised by how male-heavy the class was. The studio was smaller than I imagined and didn't seem to have a designated changing area, so keep that in mind. Also the front desk wasn't too helpful when I signed in. I'm used to getting a tour whenever I'm new somewhere or at least a brief rundown of the place, but the woman seemed like she didn't know much about the studio. I asked if there were lockers and she said, "I believe so." Huh? There ARE lockers both upstairs and downstairs, an astroturf section, kettlebells, weighted balls, and the SLED. Oh, the sled. The fear wore off quickly as we got started with a light warmup and then went straight into the different circuits. Since it's a cardio-focused class, there were a lot of sprinting exercises, lateral shuffles, hopping, and pushing that damn sled (a heavy contraption that works your whole body!). It moves very quickly, with little rest time in between each circuit, and Andy demonstrated each move and offered modifications - thank goodness, cause I'm ALL about modifications. I work out fairly often (4-5x a week) but the 55 minutes at Soho Strength Lab truly challenged me. My heart was racing, I sweat like crazy and gasped for breath at times. Andy had us race against someone toward the end, and as a former high school sprinter, that really ignited the competitive spirit in me. I feel like Speed Lab is geared toward people who work out consistently, because I could imagine barfing if it was my first time doing cardio in a long time. It's not my all-time favorite workout and I wish there were more amenities, but it's a good one! read more

Went to the Speed Lab class a few days ago for the first time. I wanted to throw up after the class... In the best way possible!!! The workout was intense and the instructor was very encouraging. I'm still sore and it feels great! Not the prettiest of studios but definitely one of the best workouts. read more

SoHo Strength Lab - SSL - Trainers Near Me - New York, New York

Holy crap I love this place. I mean, not when I'm 3/4 of the way through my workout, when I'm sweaty and tired and kinda want to die, but isn't that the point of working out? I've been to a few types of classes and they all follow a somewhat familiar routine (warmup, a few circuits, finisher) but they're all slightly different, butt-kicking and include a nice mix of cardio and strength (ugh and that damn sled) no matter which type it is. Classes are relatively small (8ish people) which I like. The best part is the instruction - Andrew does an awesome job of demonstrating the moves (hooray for no injuries), offering modifications (making it appropriate for bth hardcore athletes and us regular schlubbier types) and most importantly, is super positive and inspiring. I hate places that try to scream-shame you into working harder, and Soho is the opposite - you feel so awesome about how you're doing, you just want to do even better. You'll leave feeling accomplished, happy and, yeah, maybe in a bit of pain. read more

Went to my first class via Classpass last week. What drew me to the class was that the description states that the ab exercises wouldn't just be the usual traditional ones and also it was just 45 min long. Upon going, I looked up SSL and used the address listed (Mulberry St). I went in and put my stuff down and it took at least a few min for someone to come up to me and ask what I was here for. I said it was for the class and it turns out it's in a DIFFERENT location. So first timers...beware. Make sure you check the address and go to the one listed in the classpass e-mail. I was not aware there were two different locations so I didn't think I would have had to check both sources for the address. As for the Spring St location, I like that the layout is very sleek and minimal. But the turf (?) is extremely uncomfortable especially after more than several minutes of exercises where your arms and hands have to be in contact with the floor (they have mats avail if needed). The class itself went by very fast...the instructor was very friendly and came by to correct form or help out anyone who needed modifications. But the structure was a bit more lax as another reviewer mentioned so I wish that there was some sort of clearer timer to countdown each exercise. After class finished, I asked where I can put the used towels away and the girl at the front desk was super confused and said we could just leave them on the desk. Which was a bit odd because you would think that they would know since they work there? read more

Chris is the best instructor! I'm not in the best shape particularly when it comes to cardio type workouts and I was very nervous trying TRX for the first time. Chris took his time, explained and demo-ed each exercise. He gave me great alignment cues and took time after class to give me things to work on at home. I will be coming back! read more

This place kicks butt!! Andy, a former fitness model, is the owner and teaches class himself. I came with a serious knee injury and he was very careful with icing me adjustments. His exercises are innovative without being too overwhelming. Took the Endurance lab and it's a combo and stretch and strengthen. Swear my knee feels better after his class. His partner running with resistance band is really cool. Definitely coming back!! read more

Forced myself to wait a few days before I wrote this review to make sure it wasn't just the endorphins from the workout talking and that the workout was as good as I thought it was. Three days later I can say it was! About me: consider myself a wanna-be gym rat. Have been lifting weights for over 15 years and do HIIT cardio two to three days a week so I consider myself in pretty good shape. Getting bored of the gym and wanted to find some different workouts to do. Class I attended: Sweat class taught by Andy. Facility: very different from your typical gym. Not a lot of equipment on the floor but plenty of toys on the perimeter. Everything was very clean and organized. Class: Very well organized. Andy has the class structure fine-tuned to really push you hard, but give you a recovery period when you need it. Only 10 or 12 people in the class and that let him give people feedback and instructions. Instructor: Andy was very personable and organized. The class structure was well thought out and his instructions were very clear. He even included ideas on modification if you needed it. (He also gave a warning to start slow and not wear yourself out the first time through. Was good advice.) The workout: Freakin' tough!! After the 10 minute warm up I already had a good sweat so the class was well named. Andy gave good very supportive comments throughout the workout and corrections to form if he saw someone having issues. I wear a heart rate monitor when I workout and Andy had me going well above my previous max heart rate. It was a tough class. Overall: Wish I could rate it six stars. Am definitely looking forward to the next class and trying some of the other ones they offer. read more

On a lazy day I was googling gyms in the area. I signed up on line and thought I'd give the gym a try. Well it was a great idea. I had had some great training. The staff is really friendly. No work has been the same twice. I got some awesome nutritional information and help. I am stronger, leaner, healthier, smarter and getting in better shape all the time.
