I suffered with debilitating back issues/pain for several years, floating from doctor to doctor, looking for any type of relief. I was lucky enough to get an appointment rather quickly with Dr. Halamendaris. Within 5 minutes of meeting him, and his review of my most recent MRI, he opined that I can continue to do the things I am trying to make work, but nothing will "fix" me without surgery. I said let's do it. Surgery was done 3 weeks later and I woke up from surgery and have been 100% pain free from that day. I am so appreciative of Dr. Halamendaris and the outcome of this surgery. I cannot recommend him strongly enough.

Since the beginning of this year, I have been trying to schedule an appointment. Instead of helping me move forward, the assistant told me that Dr. Holamandara would not see me until I had an MRI. She instructed me to ask my primary care physician to order it. That made no sense because the specialist is the one requesting the MRI and should be responsible for providing the appropriate referral or coordinating the necessary steps. Because I had previously seen Dr. Pativanda for the same condition, I was then told that they would contact Dr. Pativanda's office to request the MRI referral. That was over four months ago. Since then, I have called both offices every couple of weeks asking for an update. Dr. Holamandara's office and Dr. Pativanda's office are located directly across from each other in the same building, yet no one seems able to communicate or provide answers. Neither office has followed up with me, returned my calls with a solution, or taken ownership of resolving the issue. The lack of communication, coordination, and accountability has delayed my medical care for months. As a patient, I should not have to spend months chasing down referrals and repeatedly calling multiple offices just to get a simple answer. Patients deserve timely communication, clear guidance, and staff who are willing to help instead of passing responsibility to someone else. I hope this office improves its patient care and communication because no one seeking medical treatment should have to go through this experience.

I had major spinal reconstruction from him divided into 2 parts which were planned for 2 days apart. Just as the first part was beginning, someone in the OR failed to read the computer and put chlorhexadrine all over me, to which I am allergic. 2 days later, when the 2nd half of the surgery was to start, Dr. Summa checked on me first but did not check my back. A severe rash had encompassed my whole torso. In the OR, i showed him my back, and he recommended that i wait 2 weeks for the steel rods to be put in. i trusted him and said okay. 3 months passed, and my scoliosis reasserted itself. By the time the rods went in, they had to go in bent to go with that bend in my back, which was not there after the first surgery and would not have been there if the 2 weeks later operation had come true. Now steel rods keep that bend there for the rest of my life. Still, i was better off and emerged with less pain than before the first surgery. He told me to go to physical therapy, which caused the pain to come back. he told me to hold off a few days, then start again. This went on for weeks with the pain getting worse all the time, but when I saw him next, he said to try 6 more weeks of PT. After that, the pain had settled in. When I saw him next, he said exactly the same words as the previous time and it was evident that this was a standard recommendation. He did not comment when I said that he had just said exactly what he had said 6 weeks ago. He seemed not to recall the previous visit or realize that his recommendation had made things worse and that he was repeating it. I have never recovered and am in far worse pain than before the whole surgical project began simply because the surgery promised in 2 weeks took 3 months to happen and he did not see that the PT was ruining the good results he had created. For the sake of his other patients, I tried to explain what had happened many times to him over the following years, and he would never take responsibility for any negligence. I am in intolerable pain, much worse than in the beginning, and there is nothing anyone can do. He does not show any recognition that patients would benefit if he paid the same acute attention to aftercare and keeping schedules that he dos to the actual procedures. Also, do not expect understanding even though it seems to be there. When I let him know how much pain i was in, he said that he himself has back pain to the point where he can't run marathons anymore. Best of luck.

The tear had begun four years prior and was not diagnosed during an MRI at another doctors' office when I was living in Boston. Dr. Hohn was extremely competent in handling the diagnosis and performing my surgery. Following an MRI to confirm our suspicions that my meniscus was blocking my knee, Dr. Hohn talked me through my options and the potential outcomes of surgery. Worst case scenario: he couldn't fix it and the torn tissue would be removed. Best case scenario: the tear could be mended and I'd have better function in the future. Fortunately, Dr. Hohn was able to repair the tear! I'm 3 months out from surgery now and am feeling great. The knee feels very stable, and my only limitations are from the remaining muscle atrophy. I highly recommend Dr. Hohn. While I am not an MD, I am a PhD in biology, and I can say from my interactions with him that this doctor has a firm grasp on the most modern methods and research in orthopedic surgery. That said, his demeanor can be a bit academic and reserved, so he may be off-putting to some people (see the previous review). If you know the right questions to ask, Dr. Hohn has the knowledge and patience to help you understand your particular situation.

It was clear they were running badly behind, and from the amount of people waiting, it was clear it's wasn't just one doctor running late. At 4:30, I asked the check-in desk how it was looking. There were 3 people ahead of us and they just took in the 3:15 appointment. It could be 30 minutes, it could be 45 minutes. "Depends if the people ahead of you have a lot of questions or need an X-ray." Um, are you hoping for people who ask no questions about their own medical condition? No explanation of how they were going to see us well after their closing time. No "sorry," which I guess would've been hypocritical anyway. By that point, I had checked Yelp and found it was par for the course, and sure enough, it was just another day of grossly overbooking the place at the expense of patients' time. We canceled soon after and left without being seen for a painful injury. Wish I could send them a bill for our time.
