When we first met with Dr. Gollogly it was a brief and slightly cold meeting, but he seemed to know exactly what to do and was confident on how to correct my husbands lower back pain of 15+ years. Dr. Gollogly suggested an endoscopic approach and we scheduled the surgery for 9.4.2018. We volunteered to get another MRI done (as the one we provided was a year old) to make sure the doctor had the best information - we had that MRI done about 2 weeks prior to the surgery date. Dr. Gollogly looked at the MRI just the day before the surgery because we called and pushed for an update on it. With him looking at it, he changed the surgery to a microscopic surgery the day of the surgery so the cost was a question now but nonetheless, we went through with it and for the first week were thrilled we did it as the pain he had been experiencing was almost completely gone. We went in for our first post op appointment and the doctor didn't even look at the incision on my husbands back or do any kind of physical examination which we thought was odd. We left with the doctor saying everything "looked fine" and to keep him posted if any pain occurred.  On 9.10 we notified Dr. Gollogly that my husband was getting a lot of nerve pain down his leg whenever he moved. We were told that was normal and he sent us a video about Dysesthesia after microscopic surgery. We accepted this response and moved along with assurances that it would go away in about a week. It never went away, in fact it got much much worse. We repeatedly reached out to Dr. Gollogly and his assistant Brandi, only to be met with either complete dismissal/ignoring calls and messages, or a cold response that someone will call us back for an appointment. This went on for two months.  Finally in November 2018, after several complaints of severe pain and a request for a cortisone shot, the doctor agreed to provide a steroid pack. This was taken starting on 12.4.2018 and provided very mild relief, for about one day. We again requested the cortisone shot to try and alleviate this pain and were again told by the doctor his assistant, Brandi, would schedule something. The pain has gotten so bad that he cannot walk right, or bend over, or even sleep without constant pain waking him. This new pain is almost worse than what he had before the surgery and we cannot get any information from Dr. Gollogly or Brandi - not even a return call or taking our call when we try to reach out. We are constantly ignored.  Weeks had gone by and still no one contacted us about an appointment so we went around Brandi and scheduled one ourselves, with a different assistant in that office. We were thrilled we got one on 1.14.2019 for the cortisone shot. My husband went in that day to get the shot, paid his copay, and was told by Dr. Gollogly that Brandi would have someone call him to schedule the shot. He paid his copay to have NO EXAMINATION AND NO RELIEF. I don't even know why they saw him or how they can justify charging us with another appointment as they did anything at all. We have pushed again for an appointment and they have now passed us on to a new doctor, Dr. Chang also with Monterey Spine & Joint. I have no idea how care will be with him... but I cannot imagine it gets any worse than what we have experienced with Gollogly and Brandi.  Perhaps Gollogly is a good surgeon and something just went wrong with my husbands surgery. I cannot say for sure. But I can say that the after surgery care we have received to date has been negligent, careless, and cold. I would never wish this type of frustration or pain on anyone. And without question, Brandi should not be in a service field, a medical field, or any field that requires care, attention, or kindness.  I strongly discourage anyone from going to this doctor - at least until he gets a new assistant or better organization. Maybe there are some good doctors at Monterey Spine and Joint, but the combination of these two is a neglectful and painful disaster. Be cautious!! read more

Dr. Gollogly 9/1/17 Do you have Long Term Pain in either Leg, possibly from your lower Back possibly down to your feet or numbness? I Had Serious Pain until I met Dr.Gollogly and he did Microscopic Surgery on my spine. I was Blessed to get in touch (another story via my wife) with Dr.Gollogly after many months of unbearable Pain. I was unable to get help from other surgeons I had contacted and with newer Surgeons, first visit appointments were 1-3 months out. I thought my life had been changed forever because of the Pain I had been in for months. He was so sure he could reduce my Pain that I had to wonder. When anything sounds too Good to be True you have to be on the lookout for what else is there that you are not aware of? My Pain had been so Bad for many months; I was desperate to try anything ASAP. The next day I hobbled into Surgery, 4.5 hours later I walked out 95% Pain Free, Amazing. Dr.G had me txt his cell at 8 pm with my condition which was still very good. Another U-tube video with a verbal update of my surgery was on my email when I got home that evening. Please note Dr.G 100% accurately stated what my surgery outcome would be before surgery and he was correct! It has been 11 days since my surgery and my surgery recovery is going extremely well. Dr. Gollogly is amazing. I had been to 2 other Spine specialist and they said that surgery was not recommended, and cortisone shoots would be the only thing that would work for me. 3 cortisone shoots later, not one helped. So finally I went to see Dr. Gollogly as my 3rd opinion, I was at my wits end. He listened to what I had to say, he looked at my MRI and explained how and why he could help me. He told me he could go in and clean up my L5/S1 disc area from where the disc was torn and stuff was spilling out. He could help me get off the pain meds because he could fix it to where I wouldn't be in pain anymore. I was worried, why was it that he felt he could fix me when no one else thought surgery was a possibility. But I felt like this was my last hope, so I scheduled surgery. Dr. Gollogly was very helpful, he sent me a video where he went over my MRI and pointed out the problems and how he was going to fix it. It made it much easier to explain to family, I could just have them watch the video. His office was always available for questions. His medical assistant Brandi was the best, if I ever had any problems with appointments, prescriptions, or just had questions she always got back to me and helped with what I needed. Surgery went great. I was in a lot of pain after just from all of the inflammation around the surgery site. But I managed it well. I did my physical therapy at Monterey Spine & Joint, and it went great. My Physical therapist Carie was amazing. I can honestly say that I am not in pain like I was before surgery, it was all day everyday. I am 3 months out from surgery and I have some days where my body tells me that I am doing to much and I get some of that nerve pain, but I know its from inflammation and I do my exercises that I learned from physical therapy, I take some anti-inflammatorys and it gets better. "Dr G" stands for genius. I could wax eloquent about his exceptional hand skills, but I'm focusing this review on his wizard-like ability to hone-in on the most important details of my story and distill down a myriad of symptoms and potential solutions into a thoughtful and accessible solution for me. I've been suffering from excruciating sciatica that keeps me up at night and immobilized at times over the last 15 Years since a college injury. It's progressed in severity and developed into corresponding weakness of my leg. Desperate, I'd seen countless physical therapists, chiropractors, and surgeons about how to make the pain stop. Multitudes of inscrutable professional recommendations and years of frustration trying to run the formidable healthcare gauntlet left me empty handed. A literal and figurative pain in the neck. I took matters into my own hands and paid for an MRI to get at the (spinal) roots of the problem. If you are even considering some kind of pain relief through surgery for your spine, then this is the doctor you want to see. I had three very bad discs in my neck that I dealt with for years. I put off going to see anyone because I was afraid I would come out of surgery worse than I went in. Isn't that everyone tells you? Or told if you just lose some weight, come back then. I went ahead and took the plunge my oncologist suggested, the Monterey Spine & Joint. The doctor who I was assigned to was I think the best doctor there! He was very concerned, listened to me intently. I had already had an MRI done and he followed up with a few x-rays right there at his facility. We talked for about 20 minutes and at the end of that conversation, I said, sign me up. The procedure that some folks are just right for called infusion-less surgery was for me. He said you need surgery and you are too young (66) to have your neck fused. Oh, was I re-leaved. But then what does that leave me in the way of options? Fusion-less surgery. Yep, fusion-less! I said, OK, how long will I have to stay at the hospital? Oh, we do it out patient! I was flabbergasted. I checked in one morning and was out in the after noon. The incision was made on the base of my neck in the front, about 3 inches long. They went in and microscopically removed the herniated part of my discs and stitched me up. Now it was quite that quick, but I can tell you that once out of the anesthesia I could already tell my previous pain was gone. Dr Gollogly from Monterey Spine and Joint did an anterior cervical discectomy at the C6-7 level followed by a cervical disc replacement on me in October 2017. He is an awesome doctor with a fantastic staff. I suffered for many years with spine pain, numbness & tingling down my arm and fingers. I was told by other doctors that I had to live with it because it was part of aging. I tried Acupuncture, Chiropractors, physical therapy and finally Epidural injections again. Another Doctor from his office recommended Dr Gollogly and introduced him to me at my appointment. Dr Gollogly looked at my MRIs and immediately recommended surgery. The awesome part of this is Dr Gollogly put together a video presentation and emailed it to me that afternoon, so my husband and I could see what he was going to do and if I wanted to proceed with it. I am 61 years old and for the past three+ years I have been unable to work due to suffering from sciatica, arthritis and spinal stenosis. I was told by two other back surgeons that my only option was spinal fusion. Spinal fusion only has a 33% success rate and requires a hospital stay. Luckily I was referred to Dr. Gollogly who gave me the option of Outpatient Microscopic Spine Surgery! People from all over the world are now going to him for this highly successful, minimally intrusive alternative to fusion. The entire procedure took less than two hours, from the time I was admitted to the Surgery Center to when was walking out to go home was less than five hours. The only pain I experienced was from the 1" long incision required and was relieved with Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Because I didn't need opiates for pain mediation I was able to drive the next day. I still have a few herniated lumbar discs but I will hopefully be able to treat them with physical therapy. Sohrab and his team gave me my life back. I was fractured my spine in a mountain biking accident after which my activity level was minimal due to lumbar pain. A year later I developed a foot drop, leg weakness and severe sciatica making life intolerable. Other specialists in Bellingham WA and Seattle recommended a 9 hour fusion after which I was to avoid activities that would stress the joints above and below the fusion since eventually they would fail. That meant no mountain biking, kitesurfing, skiing, etc. And what Dr. can concentrate 9 hours on a surgery, plus 9 hours of anesthesia? And then the recovery. After review of my MRI, Sohrab offered me a micro surgery, done in Outpatient surgery, that took around 2.5 hours from the time I walked in until I walked out. Anesthesia and surgical time probably just over an hour! The facility and staff were great. I was home that night (versus hospital) and although not recommended, I was not only walking but also riding a road bike around town in 2 days. I am now doing everything I was before my accident. I still have tolerable arthritic low back pain but no weakness or sciatica. I couldn't have asked for a better experience or outcome. And, a fusion is still an option should things deteriorate. I had surgery with Dr. Gollogy in April 2017. I had previously suffered with foot pain for over 8 years. 8 years prior I went to a Podiatrist and was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis. I purchased orthotics and every type of hideous shoe possible to find relief. This never happened, regardless of the type of insert. Dr. Gollogly is one of the most intelligent individuals and talented surgeons that I have ever met. He specializes in all of the newest endoscopic spine surgeries, and believes that most fusions can be avoided. He has developed a digital MRI review program which allows him to interact with patients through video. Once you upload your MRI to his digital platform (www.sohrabgolloglymd.com) he records a review of it on his computer. This video goes over the important parts of the MRI or x-ray and he shares any complications. He then lays out the different options for moving forward. I had terrible back pain and dysfunction due to herniated discs, pinched nerves, and an unstable vertebra. I had trouble even walking half a mile. I went to Dr. Gollogly after going to two university orthopedic surgeons recommended spinal fusion. I told Dr. Gollogly I did not want spinal fusion so Dr. Gollogly instead performed a Spinal Decompression and now most of my back pain is gone and I am much more functional. I can now walk well over four miles whenever I want to. I am very happy that Dr. Gollogly fixed my back, and did so without the sometimes problematic fusion surgery. Dr. Gollogly, is a professional and the finest expert in his field! I have been treated by several Doctors prior to seeing Dr. Gollogly, and each Doctor had their own (and wrong) interpretation of my condition. These diagnosis ranged from needing hip replacement surgery to nothing can be done! However, Dr. Gollogly simply asked me to identify where the pain was resonating and then after my response he confidently proclaimed; "L4 and L5!" He pulled up my MRI, zoomed in on L4 and L5 and without hesitation pointed out the pinched nerve! He explained in very easy to understand language how he could correct the problem. I had two bulging disks and was having a really tough time going to work. I was literally unable to get up off the floor and had intense pain going down my leg. I uploaded my MRI to Dr Gollogly's website, and he did an incredible video review which was emailed directly to my email. He discussed the options I had to move forward. When I saw him in clinic he fitted me with a brace, took me off of the narcotics that were making me nauseated, and turned me on to this amazing secret - Tylenol + Ibuprofen is super effective for pain without all the harsh side affects. He encouraged me to see a physical therapist and reassured me that most people in my situation are able to find relief without surgery. One week later I was back to work, and three months later I can do everything that I could do previously. I had back surgery for spinal stenosis on 9/6/17 at the Monterey Surgery Center with Dr. Sohrob Gollogly if the Monterey Spine and Joint Center. To say this man is a miracle worker would be the understatement of the century!! I was up and walking after 3 hours, off of major pain meds after 2 days and cleared to drive and go back to work when I felt ready. I will probably go back in a week just because I need a little break. I start physical therapy in the next day or two to get me back into tip top shape and prepare me for full readiness to continue work and life. DO NOT get another epidural or suffer needless pain. The front office is still trying to get their act together, but once you get past them, Dr Gollogly and his team are definitely 5 stars. I had a microdiscectomy, then had severe pain 2 days later (not uncommon.) Dr Gollogly was available 24/7 to help me thru it. As other reviewers have said, he takes the time to explain things in a way that non-medical field people understand. He looked at the MRI with me, took the time to make sure all my questions were answered, and made sure that I was comfortable with what we were doing. Let's just say Dr. Gollogly delivered on what was promised! By the time I came to him for answers, I was unable to do basic things like standing, sitting, walking, sleeping without unbearable pain from my L4-L5 disc issues.
