Pho in Mexico- a little questionable right? WRONG! Sokuna exceeded all of my expectations and will definitely be a restaurant I'll be returning to if I'm ever in the area. FOOD: -Pho (4/5): Let me preface this review by stating that I live in the San Gabriel Valley where there's a plethora of Vietnamese restaurants (and I grew up eating Viet food). With that said, I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious the pho was. The broth was very rich and flavorful, and the beef was soft and tender. Presentation was 10/10- look at my photos and tell me if you've ever seen pho plated that nicely!! -Spring rolls (4/5): These were probably the biggest spring rolls I've eaten in my life. The veggies were plentiful in these! PARKING/INTERIOR: -Street parking. This restaurant is located right in the heart of Rosarito, and is in walking distance to Papas and Beers. -Interior was gorgeously decorated- this aesthetic restaurant feels like one you would find in DTLA. SERVICE: -A-FREAKING-MAZING!!!!! The owner of the store was extremely hospitable and generous towards my friends and I. (Wish I remembered his name- it's been a while!) He gave us the backstory of his restaurant, and made us feel at home. He also generously gave us all tequila shots ON THE HOUSE.

Let's get something straight. The service here was AMAZING. Our server, claudia or something to that effect, was amazing. She has braces. She was fluent in spanish and english. That trickster. I'm vegitarian and let me tell you, you can have anything on the menu. Just ask for tofu instead. Any dish, literally, just ask for tofu instead and wa-la. I had the phö with tofu. I split it with my gf and with that delicious dish alone I was stuffed. Bring on the spring rolls with 2 dipping suaces. Wow. Come on. So delicious. So much freaking food. Let's fast forward to our vegitarian stuf fry that I forgot I ordered. Bomb. I was very inebriated to say the least. Come and have fun! Bathrooms are nice, relatively. The ambiance is secluded, private, and very asian. Nice place for a date. Or hang with friends outside and enjoy the famous "mojitos." I cant Express this enough, our server made our night.

A good Asian spot in Rosarito. Weird mixture of a menu but it works. A lot of things you can find here. This time we tried the pho and the wings. Both very good. Pho wasn't autorice flavor (no cinnamon or anise) but had a great flavor. Will come back to try other stuff. Very cute place too.

We'd been looking forward to coming back to Sokuna. We discovered this spot on a visit in 2019. Since then they've remodeled a bit placing a coffee bar in the front. They've closed off what was the cozy romantic back section of the restaurant. The decor remains very cute. We're not sure if the ownership has changed. Part of the charm we remembered was the friendly owner and staff. We came during the day and it's possible the vibe could change in the evening. They no longer offer a vegan/vegetable pho. We had the Tom yum with only vegetables and vegetable spring rolls. Both were really good. I was craving soup and this hit the spot. Josh had the pineapple fried rice and said it was just as he remembered it. We were both happy with what we ordered and would definitely come back again.

    Great atmosphere and service!

We have been waiting for a good Asian restaurant in Rosarito! This place is amazing! The basil mojito was soooooo good and the curry is the real thing! Spring rolls are to die for. We are happy to give this place 5 stars plus! Try it! Keep coming back! Make sure they're successful in RB!

Me and my husband came to Rosarito on a little getaway and came across this place! We're vegetarian so it's been a bit tough to find options but the food here is beyond DELICIOUS!! They have numerous plates that can be made vegan and the atmosphere is so cute inside! The customer service was amazing! Our waiters name was Israel and he was very attentive making sure we were happy with everything!! Don't forget to try to the basil mojito with cucumber!!!

Thank you for representing the Khmer (Cambodian) culture in Mexico, Sokuna! Inspires me to visit the Angkor Wat temple one day!

Other reviews are accurate. Service is slow but it also reminded me where am I trying to go in such a rush. Sit down, relax. Beef Pho was different, the 6 pieces or so slices of beef I had in the pho was absolutely delicious and tender. The flavor of the Pho was more sweet than herbal. I forgot to ask for jalapeños and basil for my pho... The pineapple chicken fried rice dish flavor was amazing but the rice was mushy so it was a bit hard to swallow. A matter of opinion and preference on the consistency of the rice. I had high expectations for the matcha Pina colada to be sweet from the coconut flavor but I could only taste just the matcha no Pina colada. The Thai Tea was made to perfection.

We happened to be looking for a place to have some soup, this showed up on yelp, the reviews seemed really good and it was close to where we were staying. There is parking right outside we arrived early before it started getting busy. The decor is really nice and the staff is really friendly. Everyone Speaks English. We had the pho, the spring rolls and the skewers! every bite was amazing. We will definitely be back when we come through town. The prices are reasonable and the service is excellent.

The best spring rolls I've ever had

The food is so fresh and delicious! We had the spring rolls, the Tom Yum soup and the plum spice lobster. The spices were very unique and well done. Run by a nice family. The atmosphere is chill and the attention to detail in everything really shows.

Spring rolls - best I've had in Mexico

Omg the food was delicious. So authentic! Been looking for Thai food in TJ & Rosarito and so happy to have finally found it. Definitely recommend this place. They have a variety of Asian dishes, such as Pho, Tom Yum, spring rolls, Vermacelli w beef, Thai pineapple rice and so much more. And all dishes are available in vegetarian/ vegan option, which was great as my boyfriend is vegetarian. The service is very nice & welcoming. Great atmosphere. Place is very clean which is also a plus. Nice up to date background music. Nice mural artwork which reflects owners background history & culture - was very interesting to learn.

When I arrived, the restaurant was packed. I had to check in and take a number, but they managed to seat us in under 10 minutes. If you're not into crowds, I would definitely avoid Sunday's. My usual visits are during the weekdays when they open first thing for lunch. You get first pick of the buffet offerings and it's much more enjoyable without the crowd. My faves are the Chow Mein, Teriyaki Beef, Fried Rice and Honey Walnut Shrimp. So....if you have a craving for AYCE buffet, check it out!

The place smells decent, decently easy to find so no issues there. Cleanliness: the Buffett definitely needs some upgrading and cleaning. The rug smells and feels sticky to walk on, the counter area was clean but the ice cream section needed a deep clean, the cones were out of the packing and stale. The sprinkles were covered in ice cream and all over the place. The machine was covered in dried ice cream and caked on. I did not go into the restrooms, so I am not sure Food: cold. Everything except for the hibachi I got was cold. Shrimp, pork, chicken, all cold. They have an okay variety of deserts but other than the coffee and orange ones they were pretty bad. The flavor of the food was good, but the temperature of it was what really grossed me out and worry about food poisoning. It was during dinner at around 4pm so crab legs were included. My daughter devoured them and so did I. Best part of the buffet. Customer service: the waiters were very nice and kept our table clear. As soon as they notice we had our empty plates they would come around and grab them. I did notice and maybe it was just for that moment but we did get different waiters just grabbing our plates. Maybe they are doing a system where everyone waits on every table. Whatever they were doing it worked! We did mention at the end that our food was cold after we had paid and all because we were asked how we liked it. She did apologize and told us we should have brought up sooner so they could warm it up. That since it was slow the food gets cold. It was nice she apologized and all, but working in the food industry myself it is not any of the customers job to remind you to keep an eye on food temps. And you're supposed to keep food hot. Regardless they were nice. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? No. $60 for two adults $9 for my 4 yr old and $5 for my two yr old. So basically $80 for a family of 4 for cold food. Flavor was good though. So if you want to try it maybe you're lucky and get hot foods

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice. Oodles by the Noodbar has such a large and diverse menu so I would highly recommend coming in to try them out.

The unassuming exterior and simple but elegant interior greeted us with low lighting and quiet atmosphere. We sat at a table of 6 and immediately knew we were in for a treat. We all had the 10 course meal and although I can't do justice to describing each item- let's just say every bite is a treat for the tastebuds. You could do substitutions and add ons. I added wagyu for additional 55$ but I'm sure the duck would of been just as good. The pork too surprised me as my family raised pigs as a kid and I don't usually eat but the pork dish- with pigs that were raised with special diet and spa-like treatment/ well... the stories added to the dish. Things like pine were unexpected delights. The drinks were all amazing and we tried mixed drinks, sake, and something I rarely see and is worth noting- great mocktails. The service was outstanding and everyone was friendly, polite, knew their job, and quietly was there between each course with fresh silverware. All was completed with a sense of effortlessness. My daughter mentioned to her dad she was waiting on a drink and the manager heard and without hesitation said it was on the way/ and on the house. We chuckled as the bill of course was more than we had ever spent on a single meal, but enjoyed every minute. What struck me about ambiance is we felt as if we were the only ones there although I saw several tables on other side of restaurant. In addition although 6 of us in a circle - we were able to converse with each other with ease. Come with an open mind and be prepared for the best meal you may ever have. Pricey but worth it if you want to create a memory sure to please.

Made reservations online for the tasting menu $225. The place is in the middle of nowhere, from the outside you'd never guess it was fine dining. We started off with a trio of little bites, a tile fish gungakn roll, fried mochi threads, and an acorn cracker filled with camembert cheese. The raw tile fish gunkan was ok, the mochi threads were nice and crunchy, the camembert cheese was too pungent for me. Hamachi/Raspberry - slices of Yellow tail and raspberry in a ponzu sauce. The ponzu stood out most and gave it a salty profile i couldn't really distinguish between the hamachi and the raspberry as the textures were similar. Artichoke Kohlrabi gyoza with a bri sauce. This dish was very good though i thought it was more like ravioli than gyoza. It even looked like ravioli. I think they just called it gyoza to make it fit the Japanese theme. Shrimp tempura was delicious! it was lightly battered and fried and put in a shallow bowl of shrimp broth. They said it came with dynamite sauce but i think it was just kewpie mayo. Very good and one of my favorites of the evening. Chicken wing stuffed with scallop, part of the wing was deboned and stuffed with a Hokkaido scallop. It was very tasty, the scallop was very sweet and tender. I wish the skin of the chicken wing was crispier. It was quite charred but did not crack when bitten into it and a little rubbery. Tile fish had a very crispy skin and came with a beautiful sauce of i think apples and apricots and a walnut butter. I really liked the sauce that was spooned on the plate. another one of my favorites of the evening. Duck done 2 ways; roasted and a fried tsukune meatball. They both came in a light carrot sauce. The fat on the roasted piece was nicely rendered and the duck meat very tender. The tsukune was nicely fried and crispy and still rare inside. The palate cleanser was a pine ice cream with Aloe Jelly, The pine ice cream was quite refreshing and smooth i thought the aloe jelly was a bit strong tasting. I think flavor came from the geranium but something had a strong taste to it. The dessert was also one of my favorites White chocolate with hokkaido milk powder on top of miso ice cream and slices of tangerine. It was supposed to be reminiscent of a creamsicle. The Hokkaido milk power was magic on the shards of white chocolate, the miso ice cream was very smooth and dense and when eaten together with the pieces of manderin orange did remind me of a creamsicle. They gave us a trio of finishing dishes a trio of bites; Castella cake, Kokuto jelly and raspberry mochi. The castella cake didn't really stand out, it wasn't the sweet dense cake that im used to. The kokuto jelly had that deep brown sugar taste but was too stiff in my opinion. The raspberry mochi had a strong raspberry flavor which i loved and had a good chew to it. Service was exceptional, water was filled many times almost every time the water glass went down 1/4 it was filled to the top. Each course was preceded with the proper utensiles and were cleared after each dish. i must have had at least 4 forks and 4 spoons. Definilty 5 star (Michilin style) service. Food was very good maybe 4 stars. Value was ok maybe 3 stars. If you divided the courses by the price it came to $25 per course. If you looked at the ala cart menu, many of the items were there and could be had for less than $25, of course not all the dishes on the tasting menu were available ala cart. But i feel if you sat at the bar and ordered a cocktail and maybe 5-6 dishes you't still pay a hefty price but it would be much less than $225. I feel like thats the way to go instead of the tasting menu. Come here if you want exceptional service.

The new-new nood bar called Hom Mali. - FOOD: delicious - PRICE: fair (their website shows outdated and cheaper prices) - SERVICE: good - AMBIANCE: nice updated esthetics It's been awhile since I've ate here and the last time I did it was just The Nood Bar now known as Hom Mali but still shows as The Nood Bar. They updated their decor and like it much better with its refreshing white and green interior giving south-east Asian vibes. The menu has quite a lot of good offerings it was hard to decide but feel not matter what you order here it's going to be delicious and authentic. They did keep several items from The Nood Bar! :: ORDER :: RED GUAVA ICE TEA ($5.95) - Oh my goodness, so yummy and refreshing. I'd say the caffeine level is very light on this one and I am ok with that. After stuffing my face I took a nice nap for someone who is caffeine sensitive. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GARLIC BUTTER NOODLES {$20.95) - Grilled lemongrass-marinated pork shoulder served over steamed soba noodles tossed with soy sauce, fried garlic, garlic oil, and butter alongside steamed botchy, finished with cilantro and a side of plum sauce. THIS WAS SO FLAVORFUL and yummy. I don't often eat garlic butter noodles so any garlic butter noodle is delicious to me. I did NOT see any fried garlic in my meal and felt it was only garlic oil that was present with the garlic profiles. The noodles were very garlic-y and butter-y. The pork shoulder was also perfectly marinated and dipping it in the plum sauce which was a mix of sweet and tangy paired well with the marination of the meat and butter-ness of the noods. It also came with ONE bakchoy sliced in half to appear as two. And I wish they some how incorporated the cilantro and carrots more into the dish instead of garnish to give some more herbal flavor. Even though, this dish was spot on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Service was great! Did feel awkward when they handed me the machine to tap my card and leave a tip... they stood there watching you press the buttons. No being discreet picking up plates or looking away... just looking right at you. I know it's a thing with many restaurants now but it's awkward and don't feel like I have privacy. I will def be back! So many yummy dishes on the menu to try. Until the next slurp....
