After eating two cannolis and strolling the North End on a beautiful day, I walked by Sol Optics. Ray Bans?! I could use another pair. I walked in and started scanning the display case. A man comes up next to me and smiles, "Hi. You're really beautiful." I smiled and looked at him. Then glanced over my shoulder, cocking my head to the right and say, "I bet you say that to everybody." "no, I don't" he sincerely replied. "are you from California?" Is he psychic or what? "how did you know?" "Because you smile a lot. People from Boston don't do that", he winks. Joe as it turns out, owns the shop. Sure, he was probably twisting my arm so I'll buy a pair of sunglasses from him. He doesn't need to: all his collections are impeccably chosen from top name brands in the business like Ray Bans, Prada, Oliver Peoples, Maui Jim. The display case is spotless and I try on several pairs before investing on Gucci sunnies. He approves of my choice. He carefully cleans my new pair while we talk about Martha's vineyard and Nantuckett. He offers me additional discount if I choose to shop online as well. The man clearly has passed Marketing 101 with flying colors. He hands me back my credit card and says, "Janice. My mom's name is Janice. I'll never forget you." Moral of the story? guys, give compliments and say them sincerely. It's good for my self esteem. And apparently, good for business too. ;-) read more

He is very warm and caring as we just went in to have a pair of glasses repaired and wanted to let him know how much we appreciated his kindness and expertise. Found this place on Yelp while in the Boston area. They have the largest selection of Maui Jim, Costa, and Ray-Ban's that I have ever seen. They also have other high end sunglasses like Smith. Came here after dinner at neighbor Giacomo's....i was intrigued by the window displays of earmuffs and beanies..and i saw designer sunglasses! pheeew. they were still open..so we decided to take a peek.... The associate was friendly...and wasn't too nosy as to what we were pulling out from the displays...we were trying on beanies and ear muffs and sunglasses...and she let us be.... Girls... And so, i ended up buying a red with a hint of orange ear muffs, and my friend was able to score a plaid hat. Super cute...not to mention...reasonably priced..... Although.....that same night, i got too wasted at Mcfadden's and lost my newly bought earmuffs. Such a sad story. Thank god it didn't cost me a fortune. read more

I came to Sol Optics in hopes of repairing a pair of Prada sunglasses (a gold screw had fallen out somehow) and could not be happier with the friendly service and repair! I have been to stores in New York City and they immediately said to contact Luxottica to have them repaired which would have taken months with no guarantee I would get my sunglasses back. Joe repaired my sunglasses within a matter of minutes with great care. I tried to compensate him somehow, but he insisted it was all out of good will and so I could enjoy wearing my sunglasses again. They also have a nice selection of high end sunglasses. My boyfriend and I happened into Sol Optics in the North end to look for a pair of sunglasses for him. The store owner and sales associate that was working were immediately welcoming and so helpful. The store was clean and everyone was very friendly, but no pressure to buy anything. They were very patient and accommodating as he tried on sunglasses for probably 15 or 20 minutes. My son bought a pair of expensive Persol sunglasses at the Mashpee Commons Sol Optics store about a year ago. Due to some type of "mishap", the one of the lenses started to pop out of the frame. Since my son was away at college, I took them into the Sol Optics store in the North End to see if they might be able to help. When I walked in I was greeted by two friendly employees. I told my story and asked if they might be able to fix the glasses and the store manager, Joe, quickly and happily obliged. After several attempts to pop the lens back in, his persistence paid off and he succeeded. Thanks, Joe! This was a great example of outstanding customer service and standing behind the products that they sell--even though the glasses were not actually bought in that store. Interesting that the most recent review had an issue with the return policy. I just logged in to YELP to write a review and saw that...I was quite surprised because my experience was completely different. I just purchased a pair of Maui Jim's in June and I found an issue after I got them home. I called the store and since it had been within 30 days of purchase they offered me the choice to bring them into the store and they would give me an exchange ...on the spot.... or to send them back at their expense and they would send the new ones out right away. I, for one, am very happy with their customer service. read more

I spoke with Joe on the phone, as I was searching high & low for a very specific pair of Miu Miu sunglasses. Joe went out of his way, spending a total of probably 2 hours via phone, trying to locate this pair of sunnies. He even contacted the vendor and explained to them that the particular pair of sunglasses had 2 options for a lens color. Joe was able to get to the bottom of everything and even overnighted my glasses, as I was heading out on vacation the following night!
