Been here quite a few times, 90% good food (most of the time good service). I'm sitting in the restaurant now for happy hour with my family, food came out quickly and was good, drinks took 30-40 minutes for 4 drinks from the bar. And the waitress was absolutely disrespectful about our feelings about that. We ordered drinks behind the ones that hadn't come out yet anticipating a long wait time again, and she laughed at us for doing so. Then our second round of apps came out and one of our plates was cold and she rolled her eyes at us. I have never sent food back but today was the day and I am not happy at all about it. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. It was very busy for a random weeknight so we had to wait. We got seated outside. Thankfully they had heaters. However we were right next to the entrance that js open so still very chilly. The food and drinks were great. However the service was very slow. I always go with old faithful, the Mojado burrito covered in queso and filled with chicken, Spanish rice, pinto beans and pico de gallo. This giant portion is $11 all day long every Thursday. Yum! My family and I came to Myrtle Beach for a short vacation and wanted to fulfill our "tradition" of eating getting mexican while we were here. In the past we have dined at Abuelos, but unfortunately we weren't impressed with Abuelos our last visit and wanted to try something different this trip. I read decent reviews about Sol y Luna, so we took a chance. The interior and ambiance is very lively and it is decorated with modern Hispanic art, etc. the restaurant itself isn't huge, but they do have outdoor seating. We dined on a Friday night and were seated quickly. I will say while we were seated quickly, we had to wait about 10 minutes before our server even came out and asked for our drink orders. The water that the four of us ordered took longer than expected to arrive. And by that time we were ready to order our food after reading the menu. The complimentary chips and salsa came out after our orders had been placed. The chips were good (not greasy) and the salsa was fresh and salty. For our appetizer we ordered the shredded beef nachos supreme. Our server gave us small plates for our nachos about 5 minutes after we ordered them. We thought we'd be getting them soon because of that. But we ended up getting them about 10+ minutes later. They were attentive when it came to replenishing our chip supply. When the nachos arrived we dived right in. They were great! The shredded beef was very flavorful and the jalapeños added an ice kick. The whole table enjoyed them and would recommend. About another 10ish minutes later our entrees arrived. My father ordered the beef chimichangas and he enjoyed the Spanish rice that came with them. The rice wasn't the typical Mexican restaurant rice and was packed with flavor. Overall he said it wasn't anything "out of this world", but it certainly wasn't bad. My mother ordered the seafood veracruz dish with mahi mahi, mussels, shrimp, and clams in a queso crema sauce with white rice and broccoli. She really enjoyed her meal and was surprised with the amount of fish that came with the dish. She really enjoyed it, and again, they didn't skimp on the amount of fish. I tried some of the mahi mahi and it was very flavorful! My sister ordered the birria tacos. They were massive! They came with a flavorful consume to dip the tacos in. The beef in them was so flavorful and juicy. They were packed with lots of cheese as well! Overall a really good dish and again, the portion was quite large. I ordered the seafood enchiladas. I knew I had to try these when reading the menu. They were 3 corn tortillas stuffed with sautéed peppers, calamari, shrimp, and crab. SO FLAVORFUL! I'd never had seafood enchiladas like this before. They were smothered in the same queso like crema the seafood Veracruz had. They were amazing and the corn tortillas made the dish even better! The portion was large and filling. I opted to get the pinto beans instead of the rice that came with them. They were not refried, but they were very flavorful and not too heavy. Overall the service was slow and our server wasn't the most attentive. But the food was decent, will return when we come back to the beach in the future! read more

We had lunch there today and asked for a little more pico de Gallo which can in a tiny container and to our surprise we were charged $1.75. That is unexceptional and you should be ashamed for gouging your customers. If nothing else, the bartender should have informed us of the additional charge so we weren't so surprised and had the option to decline the outrageous charge. read more

All in all this was a pretty good restaurant. I got the Mexican fries and street corn appetizer to go with carne Asada tacos. The tacos were awesome and the street corn as good too. Not overly crazy about the Mexican fries but that may just be my taste. The main issue here for me was the service it was very slow and non-responsive. A couple was seated as we got our food and they ended up having to ask for the waitress to come take their order since they had been sitting there for about 10 minutes with no one checking on them. We only saw our waitresses once after she took our order. The food was good enough to go back though so when in doubt, check it out! read more

Another wonderful delicious meal. We tried something new but started with 2 favorites lightly floured friend calamari with tentacles and shrimp and shredded crab meat ceviche (I do prefer lump crab and more of the cilantro and lime flavor than they had). We had the Vera Cruz dish and the sauce was excellent. The Manager Alexandro introduced himself and Our Server A was great with checking on us without being intrusive. Also the mojito was not watered down with too much ice and had the right amount of mashed fresh mint and their Sol e Luna margarita was on spot. Thank you for another wonderful dining experience. Oh and since we were there last they added a upper divider to the booths for more privacy from the bar as well as hanging plants to absorb sounds so it's not as loud sitting inside which was a nice touch and positive atmosphere to the ambience of the restaurant. We ate lunch here and although my fish tacos were fine, my wife's however was not. She had steak tacos and quite honestly when the steak came out it looked like leather. Cooked too long. There was seating available inside the dining room as well as outside on the patio. We opted for the AC! Our server promptly took our drink orders. He was very friendly and delivered top-notch service throughout our visit. He worked with us to ensure our son's order was gluten-free. The food was delicious. I preferred the salsa to the guacamole. The rice and beans that came with our meals was so flavorful. When we paid the bill there was some confusion about the pricing due to the Taco Tuesday special. I was not sure what to expect upon walking into Sol y Luna as I had driven by the day before and decided to come in not knowing much about the menu, etc. My mom and I were quickly sat and checked out the menu. She quickly decided on their chicken burrito and I took a while but decided on their tacos with all beans. Our waitress showed up and took our orders. I decided for a starter to get some guacamole. That came out first and it was so good! Super smooth and just the right amount of thickness. It paired so well with the tacos and beans. I got one of their el pastor tacos and a fried avocado taco. The El pastor was full of flavor and super delicious--the pineapple popped! The fried avocado was not my jam, as the batter over took the taste of the avocado. Everything else was delicious though as the beans were hearty and flavorful! I love that the tacos came with a side of mixed tomatoes and onions! So yummy! One star down for the greeter who was not the warmest or friendliest person. Our waitresses made up for this as they let us know upfront that they were running behind due to just having one server. If you're ever in Myrtle Beach, definitely check this place out especially for happy hour. I'd recommend making reservations since space is limited. Happy is throughout the entire restaurant, not just the bar or patio area. Our waitress was Taylor who was an awesome foodie and had excellent recommendations. My FAV: EMPANADAS! Oh em ghee. The dough had to have been some sort of corn meal or masa deep fried! Sooo bad, but ohhh soo good. My daughter prefers a thin layer of dough. These were fluffy and ratio to dough and filling were perfect. I ate it along side w/ the fresh made salsa. Goodness. I would go here just to order these on a cheat day. Glad I don't live close. Salsa was great & the tacos also seemed to be a hit. Steak bites reminded me of fajitas on a plate. Stir fry. Not bad. Wings were a little bland for my taste, but the little ones tore them up!! This place is called Sun and Moon.. but after ordering from here over the phone, this place should be called Sun, Moon and Stars.. because that's what you see after enjoying their amazing food.. you see the stars !! Yes.. that good and delicious. Visiting from Miami everyone had their Hispanic taste buds in full affect so we looked around for a Latin place close to our hotel.. and thank goodness for Sol Y Luna. With the current situation most locations are taking out, curbside, etc. unfortunately we were all too tired and wanted to stay in and eat, otherwise we would have eaten here. For starters, usually food loses some flavor when you the it to go, portions are small and you don't get the full experience with the dish. However, this restaurant completely blew that myth away. Each plate was loaded with quantity and quality.. period. The rice was unlike any Latin rice I had, it was packed with flavor, moist and really left you with wanting some more.. the red beans felt like home cooked, simmered, seasoned beans.. and the main entrees like the pork chop was the kicker to the whole plate. I ordered the ribeye and shrimp.. and again typically the food may be overcooked and dry, but not in this case. I've never had a ribeye taste this good on a takeout order.. they stunned me.. so much I did a double take when I but into it.. it felt as if I had just gotten it off the grill. Needless to say, the corn was the added bonus with the sauce, cheese, and tenderness.. just wow.. My only disappointment was not getting a dessert and NOT being able to eat here again before leaving. Many open tables but took 10 minute to sit my party of 3. By the time we were sat it took another ten minutes for our server to come to take our drink order and thankfully we placed our appetizers at the same time. House margarita was not good, barely any flavor and was mostly ice. Appetizers were good (street corn and queso with chorizo). Main course was terrible. One person in my party got the chimichangas and was unable to eat them because the ground beef was rock hard. The birria tacos I ordered were very bland and had a weird texture. We also had a child with us and ordered a cheese quesadilla for the child but the child didn't eat the quesadilla as the cheese was not even melted. Server rarely checked on us and had to be flagged down for refills and didn't check on us once food had been brought by a different server. Used to love this place but unfortunately won't return. I can't seem to get away from the two dishes I always order here: Politos burritos (lunch menu) which is stuffed with steak, pineapple, mushrooms (I skip those) and other goodness and smothered in yummy queso. It's served with rice and beans, and for like $12 at lunch, I always get two meals. The rice is usually in need of the beans or a little salsa to moisten it up, but still good. The Pastelon is a thing of beauty-it's a plantain lasagna. It's an explosion of flavor, made of plantains, seasoned meat, some kind of red sauce that picks up a touch of sweet from the plantains, and topped with cheese. Also a to go box entree! When the craving hits, nothing else will do. The past two times I stopped in, they didn't have it, and the waiter told me they hadn't made it in a bit. I hope it's a temporary thing. That and the fact that it's kept cold inside are my reasons for the 4 stars. Go for lunch-portions are plentiful and it's quite a bit less expensive! read more

Sol y Luna was the Mexican restaurant I didn't know I was missing in my life! Their chips & salsa are some of the best I've had - for sure homemade & a mark of a good Mexican restaurant. My Margarita was strong & yummy so no complaints there. We also had generally excellent service :) My only issue was that our food came out without the queso that it is supposed to be topped with & when we asked about it we were told they didn't have any. Food is always good. Husband and I frequent this restaurant and like the daily specials and the happy hour food and drinks. These items are cheaper than the same item on the regular menu. I also like their Shrimp Avocado salad. Portion size is enormous and I always take at least half home and it's still good the next day. I have one other favorite and that is the beef empanada. Service is great too. They are almost always busy. During tourist season there is a long wait. However if I get to the restaurant around 5 I usually get a table immediately. Decor is cute with the sun and the moon theme. Multiple TV screens around the restaurant with sports on it. I highly recommend this restaurant. I always bring my guests here and everyone I brought here like it as much as I do. read more

This was my first time dining at Sol Y Luna. My family raves about this place and they go often. We arrived around 6:30 on a Friday evening. Of course there was a wait, but we didn't mind and grabbed a happy hour margarita at the bar. It was not my favorite margarita, but I didn't complain as it was only like $5. Once we were seated it took several minutes before our server came to the table. She asked about drinks and then disappeared for several more minutes. Half of our table of 5 decided to do the Friday fajitas for two special. BIG MISTAKE!!! I only received two very small scraps of chicken/ steak, four pieces of shrimp and a mound of veggies that seemed to be cooked last week! The person I person shared the fajitas with received a few more pieces of meat than me, but honestly not much more. We told the server about the lack of meat and she proceeded to point out the scraps of meat on our fajitas plate. She did bring out a small of bowl of steak which resembled boiled meat. I forgot to mention my toppings plate was missing cheese and sour cream! Word of advice do not get the fajitas - especially on Friday nights! The other person at our table ordered ground beef chimichanga. It was unlike any chimichanga I've ever seen, not much more to say. Finally, it came time to get our bill. This is where I went from 3 stars to 2. Our table ordered one large cheese sauce however we were charged for two.. The other person in our party who ordered the chimichanga was charged four dollars extra for ground beef, although that's not listed as an extra on the menu nor did the server advise. We asked to speak to the manager, and he proceeded to come over and argue with us about prices. In the end, we everything was resolved, but we still had to pay extra for ground beef. The manager even acknowledged that the menu was incorrect. Honestly, I think he just made it up. I may give this place another try, but it's going be a long time before I do.
