Found a little Venezuelan gem hiding in an unexpected corner of downtown Myrtle Beach. Bachata Restaurant is on Seaboard Street, tucked into the more industrial side of town between 10th Avenue and 501, and between Highway 17 Bypass and Robert Grissom Parkway. It's outside the usual Myrtle Beach restaurant and tourist zones, which is honestly part of what makes finding it fun. The restaurant recently changed ownership and is now serving Venezuelan and other Latin food during the day, with a nightclub in the back at night. The dining room is small and intimate -- maybe five or six tables -- so I can imagine it filling up quickly. There were a few people eating when I stopped in, but I had plenty of room. I went specifically hunting for fried pork belly, and they had exactly what I wanted: chicharrón. And they absolutely did NOT skimp on it. I got a big box of thick, crispy fried pork belly along with tostones -- green plantains smashed flat and fried until crisp. For the price, I was honestly surprised by how much food I got. They also gave me fresh pico de gallo that tasted like it had been made right there in the kitchen, along with house-made guasacaca, the traditional Venezuelan green sauce. Between the crispy pork belly, tostones, fresh pico and that guasacaca, this was seriously good eating. There was also a hot case in the dining room filled with Venezuelan grab-and-go snacks and pastries, including stuffed fried pastries with meat and cheese. Those definitely caught my attention for the next visit. There was a small language barrier when I ordered, but Google Translate took care of that in about 30 seconds. Everyone was pleasant, we figured out exactly what I wanted, and I left very happy. While I waited, I looked over the menu, and there are a LOT of things I'm going to have to go back and try -- especially the empanadas and some of the traditional Venezuelan dishes. If you like discovering small, locally owned restaurants that aren't sitting on Restaurant Row or surrounded by tourist attractions, Bachata is absolutely worth checking out. It has that great little hidden-neighborhood-restaurant feeling, despite being right in the middle of Myrtle Beach. Sometimes the best food is hiding in the places you'd normally drive right past. We didn't have any food since it didn't look like any was available during the "club" hours. But the bartender was nice and sent us a round for my sister's bachelorette. We went two nights in a row and it was really empty. The Friday night DJ was especially great! He was from Puerto Rico! My only complaint was the women's bathroom was so hard to flush. read more

Food tasted ok, but they charged us for an extra juice and charged us for an extra empanada. When we showed them the receipt and explained in English and in Spanish, they acted like they didn't understand and couldn't fix it. Food serving is large. Price is reasonable. I liked the beans and white rice the most. I ordered to go so I did not have interaction with the staff. However, food was packaged well. I tried the pork cho and fried pork with skin. It's tender and flavorful. I tried the empanada & fried plantains and thought both were very bland. This was some of the best Caribbean food I've ever had. I don't quite understand stand the other reviews. I had the Pechuga a la Plancha. Another person in my party had Mofongo de pollo. As some who has grown up eating Puerto Rican and Dominican food, it was very good. The Mofongo was perfect. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and the plantains were perfect the perfect amount of garlic and chicharrón. The Pechuga a la Plancha was perfectly seasoned to the point it needed no sauce whatsoever. The arroz habichuelas (rice and beans) were exceptionally. Rice was perfectly made and the beans were incredibly seasoned. All though the restaurant is out of the way and quite small, it made me feel the authenticity. Our waitress was amazing. Yes she speaks English and Spanish. She was so kinda and made us feel at home. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I was in the area and was looking forward to some good Dominican food. So let me start out with the good, the service is excellent. The server that we had, he was very attentive and I'm always looking for that. The food was decent, which is why I rated it a three. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't meet my expectations. The place was clean and the ambience was good because they had traditional music going. The million dollar question is if I would come back, and I would have to say unfortunately no. I am a Puerto Rican descent, so that may be why I'm a little more picky and looking for some specific things in my Caribbean food. read more

We absolutely loved this restaurant! The food was excellent. Some of the best Caribbean food I've had in years. We had cubanos, mofongo de pollo, oxtail and beef stews all delicious. The service is super friendly. We stopped in once after Broadway at the Beach and once again before checking out the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Was actually looking forward to eating there, it occupies the space where a favorite resturant of mine was, the local corner resturant. We arrived @ 11am on a Saturday and the place was empty which should have been clue, but then again it was raining. The first thing I wanted to know was if they had the Chuletas Kan Kan, which is advertised on their website, which made us come here. When the waitress came over, it turns out she doesn't understand English which was alarming. Luckily one from our party spoke Spanish. She didn't even know what it was, which became daunting. So we ordered large beef patties, large chicken patties , large ripe plantain's (Maduros) large fried plantains (tostones) mangu w/ 3 golpes (mashed plantains, egg, salami, fried cheese) we asked only for the mangu and fries cheese, 1 empanada salad w/o chicken and 2 sancohos (meat soup) plus a coke a water and large morir sonando (orange/cream drink. Where to start with the food. The sancoho's were actually pretty tasty, it only had a little pork and a little beef with some yuca and corn. They didn't clean the yuca or cassava they used because it still had the stringy things attached, which was annoying any place I've had sancoho they always cleaned the yuca. They must have thought we didn't know this food because they bought us the large order of sweet plantains which were half were sweet and other half weren't (I guess they ran out of the sweet) the mangu was like plaster. A big glob of mashed plantains with no flavor, what a disappointment! The chicken and beef empanadas were flavorless. Just filled with chopped up chicken and ground beef. They're must better in Miami. the tostones where actually good. But how can you screw up those. I guess this is one place I can cross off my list of resturant I will not return to. read more

Tasteless and small portions. No thank you! We ordered a carne guisado and i would be embarrassed to serve that. It was like 5 pieces of very small cubed beef. And ton of white rice. Not only was it small but it was tasteless. There were no potatoes or anything else other then that little bit of beef. The only thing that was decent was the cheese empanada. Oh. My. Goodness. This was absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and attentive. It's a very tucked away restaurant in what appears to be a warehouse district, but don't let that scare you. The front of the house is unassuming, and then you go through a little curtained area to where there is a larger seating area, bar, and small dance floor. While we were there it was Latin music videos playing (mostly salsa) but apparently they also have live music on the weekends. I wish we lived in Myrtle Beach just to come back on a weekly basis!! read more

If I could take all my stars from every other restaurant review and give it to this business I would. This gem is in the cut on a side road. The aroma while walking in was amazing so we already knew. We were greeted with big smiles and had amazing service throughout. Inside was well lit, Spanish music played of course and was told there was a bar side too. By the way, I love a menu with pictures, show me what I'm getting myself into. We ordered fried fish which comes with rice, beans and salad. Wow wow wow soooooo good! If you're in South Carolina and want flavorful, Latin, feel like Gramas house on Sunday, home cooking, come HERE! I had the skirt steak with onions. That also came with rice, beans and salad but I added a side of fried bananas with ketchup mayo sauce. I live 15 hrs away and will drive down just for this food. We have lived in North Myrtle Beach for the past 3 years. We are transplants from NY . Since moving here we have been looking for authentic Caribbean food. I think we finally found it at Bachata. We had lunch there today. The staff are extremely friendly and genuine. My wife and I had an assortment of items that we shared including pasteles, Pernil (roast pork) with rice and peas, mofongo and sancocho soup. All was excellent! We brought home enough leftovers for another meal. The total bill was $46. We will be going back soon. read more

Was disappointed by the food and service especially. The owner was very nice, but I can't say I loved or really liked anything we ordered. Nothing was bad either; just ok at best. The waitress seemed really new and not very knowledgeable or ready yet- she was pleasant and tried, to her credit. I hope things will improve overall so I can give this place a second chance when visiting Myrtle Beach again. read more
