She is largely found by word of…read moremouth and we have now run into countless families that have worked with her over the past 20 years (with nothing but amazing things to say). When my son started with her we had tried several group classes and he hated water and wouldn't even get his head wet. She warned that he would cry the first couple classes (both before booking and as the session started) but that it would get better. He screamed so bad the first class, I thought she was going to ask us not to come back. She reassured us that it was normal and sure enough by class 3, maybe 4, he was obsessed. Classes are 15 minutes/ twice a week. it's just long enough to keep their attention and learn something. Although if Michelle's next client is late or she has a free few minutes she'll extend the session, if the child is having a good time- this is truly her passion and not her job and it shows. We've been going for over 9 months and I have tried to move him to a group class setting just for maintenance because he can swim now but he won't leave coach michelle and honestly I can't blame him. Coach Michelle is kind and gentle. She explains absolutely everything to the kids so they know what is happening and they aren't scared. She's patient, kind, and understanding. She has built a personal relationship with my son and talks about life outside class and he talks about what he is going to tell her at his next class. We're beyond swim class at this point and i'm not sure how we'll ever leave her. luckily I have a 1 year old we'll be starting soon.

After the 3rd lesson, which were all supposed to be 15 minutes, (she cuts it to around 10- complete waste of time) she was late and had her gate locked. I called multiple times with no answer and she came running out ten minutes late. The kid after us, she books every 15 minutes, shows up literally as we're walking in. All she did for 3 lessons each time was slam my sons head underwater repetitively. He screamed his head off the entire ten minutes. I asked if she could work on something else the third lesson that didn't include dunking his head the entire lesson (that is literally what she did for every lesson, dunk his head 3 to 5 times and then he was done, screaming). I told her I didn't wish to come back because he was making no progress and he hated pools even more now. She lied and told me she would give me a refund and demanded my address to drop it off, and then goes on to say I will have to wait over a week for that to even happen with no specific day. I asked what day and she rudely responds, "I have had enough of you!!!" This woman is rude, unprofessional, and a liar. Why should I have to pay 225$ for three, ten minute long lessons? Why LIE stating I would get a refund and then blatantly ignore me, and get annoyed when asked for a refund you claimed you would give? She is clearly broke and waiting for her new victim customer to pay her, or plans on not paying me back at all. Disgusting behavior. I guess she would rather get blasted in every South OC moms group with her true colors (I come with screen shots!!) and get dragged into small claims court. You're not stealing my money, I will bring you to court you THIEF. I highly recommend you read the only other bad review, because apparently nothing has changed with this shady thief in 4 years. I unfortunately didn't check yelp before going and was stupid enough to hand her cash.

We first discovered Aloha Swim a little over 4 years ago with our now 7 year old son. We have our 4 year old who started a year ago. Lots of unhappy parents to remember all their names. I have all the emails and proof we were at your school in 2023, his name is Ezekiel or "Zeke" and you scarred him for life. You are a horrible human being Joy. This review is long overdue- it's actually been 4 years since we were here but my child is STILL scarred from his experiences with Joy. We were swimming today in a pool and he said, "remember when Miss Joy made me get out of the pool and stand there in front of everyone." It reminded me how terrible she was and I thought I should help people out with a review. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Joy should not be anywhere near children, let alone teaching them. RUN, don't walk away from here with your kids. She lacks patience, kindness, and professionalism. She is skilled at swim instruction, I'll give her that- but NOT with children. She should be an adult instructor only. We had swim instruction with her for several weeks and she was VERY rude and harsh with the kids. We finally had the last straw when My son who was 4 years old at the time, (a Covid baby) and still learning to swim had a moment he has never forgotten. Joy YELLED at him and called him a "brat" when he made too big of a splash getting In the water, she made him get out of the water in front of his peers and stand there cold and crying while she made "an example" out of him. She told the other kids, "see if you misbehave like this boy, you don't get to swim." Thank God my husband stood up to her and told her how he felt as she just let my child cry on the steps. We never went back and didn't even bother asking for a refund as I knew we wouldn't get it.

It's a little bit unnerving when you have about 10 people from this business staring at you while you're in the pool every second. When I'm a full grown adult and certified scuba. I understand their rules, but it feels a little bit looming and uncomfortable. They tend to suck the fun out of everything at this pool. No inflatables even if they're small, closing on odd days even if you have a membership. And no nighttime swimming if you want to use the Jacuzzi. Like I said a lot of potential and it seems like a decent place to take kids. But not everybody has kids and would like to enjoy it too, without people yelling about rules every second. I understand that this pool has lifeguards and that's fine, but I think they take their job a little too seriously especially if I'm the only one in the pool. Lol

I figured we might stick with it a month or two and then move on if I couldn't see measurable results. Over four months into classes my daughter is thriving in the water thanks to Evolution Swim Academy and her fabulous instructor, Jack. Here are a few things I loved about my experience with Evolution this summer: 1. Jack took time to learn my daughter's name and her favorite parts of different activities/songs. Even though she is too young to really communicate with him much he really saw her as a person and wanted to make sure she was getting the most out of her experience. I love that. 2. When my daughter progressed to a point in her back floating that was more advanced than many of the other kids in her class, Jack still took the time to show my husband what to do next and he made sure my daughter wasn't being held back by other classmates who were younger or newer than she was. 3. Jack had a tremendous amount of patience with crying children and he offered parents real encouragement by sharing his own story of how he was afraid of the water as a baby and went on to become a competitive swimmer, water polo player and lifeguard. While I wasn't so sure about Parent & Me classes a few months ago, I am completely sold on the value of this class now. Evolution Swim Academy has exceeded my expectations. Even their littlest swimmers get personalized attention. My daughter will be back next summer--and I hope Jack will be too. Thank you Evolution and thank you Jack!

My biggest three gripes were that we were watching younger kids come into the class and we essentially became the co-trainers. My son was so bored he just goofed off and didn't listen anymore because he could already do everything at that level since he'd been in the same class for over a year. We had asked her and she said she could move him up but she had to find spots in her other classes and she kinda seemed like she preferred the parent staying because it would be less work for her. Which goes to my next gripe that the other families in our time had been with us since the beginning! Yet she was willing to move all of our times, while they were still infants, to their nap time but she couldn't find time to transition them to swim by themselves. Since going, we've had the time changed 4 times all on Saturday. As any parent can attest to, messing around with nap times is a huge PITA. You could make the argument that she was being cautious not letting him swim without his mom because she felt he wasn't ready. However, he had been swimming without my wife for over a year already. We had been going to another swim school because she stated there weren't any slots open and weren't seeing much progress with her. The last complaint I have is that we never got what we paid for. The class started 10 minutes late and ended 5 minutes early. For a 30 minute class that's essentially half the class she spent chatting with the class prior, snacking, or ending it so she could snack. That's very unprofessional and should be something she baked into her schedule versus taking time in the class.
