I recently purchased a 6'6" Blue Plow Egg Surfboard. It is the best surfboard I have ever owned. First, it is a work of art. It's so beautiful, that it's almost a shame to put wax on it. But I didn't buy it to hang it on a wall. Second, it has a perfect combination of paddle power, stability, speed, and maneuverability. Tyler patiently showed me different fin set-up options. I decided to start out with quads and have appreciated the looser feel. To contextualize my comments above, I have been surfing for four and half years. After moving here from San Francisco and getting a place closer to the water, I was looking to get a new board, tailored to the level of surfing I am at and want to expand to. The first couple of boards I bought were second hands through Craigslist and two surf shops in PB that are probably great for getting accessories (sandals, sunnies) but I just find the young guys working there to be elitest (if you are that good kid....why are you working in a shop?!) and unhelpful. At $700...who can afford to make mistakes on such things?!! Even if you can sell a barely used on Craigslist, you are taking at least a 20% hit when you eventually move it...IF it is a desireable size and shape. So anyway, I feel lucky to have found these guys after only 3 boards and near $2000 spent. My buddy had one that I was able to borrow for a day at Scripps....I had one of the best days yet...middle of the day, sneak swells make a difference but I grabbed over a dozen good rides on his 6'2" fun shape!! He has had it for a while and durability is a big factor for a new purchase as well. I finally called them after seeing the brand around a bit more (not a label whore, it's just a reassuring thing.) When I reached them on a friday, after a decent bonus had my wallet feeling loose; I went by their office. Tony showed me their inventory (which was pretty sizeable!) and after going nuts with all the cool shapes, settled on a fishy looking 5'10" with wings and a cool yellow color. I was lucky they were trying to close them out and got mine for $350...fair price considering the $700+ that I have seen for other similar models whose bodies feel much more fragile than the one I picked up from Solana. When the waves finally got good a week later, I struggled a bit initially adapting to a new size and shape but it finally kicked in when the tide improved and I found my position on it! So stoked and so stoked on the care and patience those guys showed me in finding it!! It has been my go to for the past three weeks! Like I said though, durability is an issue and I will post back after a few months...the board goes in the back with bikes, tools and grip equipment (sorry it's just the way it goes for a working guy) and dings will be unavoidable but this baby seems to stand up so far! read more

I bought a blue triple stringer-9'6 Noserider and a blue 6'4 Hybrid fish. I have used the blue hybrid fish nonstop and have ridden some hidden pearls. 6-8 foot swells, peaky. I worked with Tyler to set up an appointment to come take a look at some boards. He was very responsive and flexible with my schedule. I was originally looking for an epoxy fun board to take out to the Cliffs, but after talking with Tyler for a while I was drawn to a 6' mini longboard with a thruster, single fin, or quad fin set up. I have ridden this board about ten times now, and I am in love!!! The board has a carbon fiber layer, so it combines the lightness and flotation of an epoxy board, but still cuts through the wave like a regular poly board. I've ridden it in 1-2 ft. waves to a 4-7 ft. day and I have been super pleased with it. Plus, I got it at cost! Very stoked with Solana Surfboards. I've been raving about them non-stop in the water!
