I can hands down say that this is my favorite surf shop! It is located in a SUPER cool historic/Victorian looking house in the heart of downtown Carlsbad, and packed full of all the surf, sand, beachwear that your heart could desire. My husband and I both purchased hats and got Reef sandals for our kiddos. If our kids weren't with us, I would have spent a lot more time perusing because their inventory was so impressive! Newly remodeled womans section is great, but it's too dark. Also, they added those high racks so clothes are not reachable. They need to have enough staff to help customers. I was there yesterday and there was one girl working and she had a lot of people to deal with. I walked over to the men's side and it's huge, well lit and employees just standing around. Also, please put hooks in the dressing rooms! There is absolutely no where hang clothes and I had to put them on the ground. read more

I am a member of Sun Diego and was on the way to the beach to relax and needed some swim shorts yesterday July 30 around 3 or 4pm. I found a really nice pair of shorts and and went into the dressing room and that's when the bloodshed happen. Due to the negligence of risk management, I stepped on a security tag needle that was in the dressing room floor, the puncture wound went deep into my heel. I limped my way to grab an associate. I was alarmed as there was no proper first aid available, I was given a dry Clorox wipe, paper towels, and bandaids to tend to my wounds (Clorox wipes shouldn't be used for wounds). When I pulled the tag out, a pool of blood came out of my heel. There was no sense of urgency and care. No incident report was done and I know it is standard Procedure to do so because I work in the medical field. I had to cancel my Beach day to tend to my injuries. I am very upset with my care at Sun Diego and will be talking to their HR and manager to resolve this issue. read more

They asked how we were doing and chatted about how amazing the day and weather was. PRODUCT - This store was huge compared to other Sun Diego's we have been to. I love that there were so many options of different items. The back where the surfboards and skateboards were was pretty rad. Having a Sun Diego that actually sells surfboard is a great option. Carries an extensive range of my favorite brands - check Friendly Staff - check Wide variety of sizes/styles - check Cool aesthetic - bonus points All the above would make me come back. However, the reason for a review (which I rarely if ever take the time to write) is due to DJ's response when I had to return an item from the east coast. DJ's professionalism and follow through exceeded anything I would have expected from even a luxury retail spot. He took the time to find my receipt in his system and facilitated the return with a positive "don't worry, I've got you covered" attitude. She went through great lengths to make out time shopping there amazing. They talked color, size, brands...Mariah made herself available to my daughter and helped us so much. One of the biggest and best surf shops I've ever been to! I came in looking for a new wetsuit and left with what seemed like everything but the original item I was shopping for. From fun socks to boards shorts and even a Yeti cooler...it was a bunch of purchases I hadn't exactly planned on, but felt totally fine with after all was said and done. I was in the mood to go surfing after work one day and realized I didn't have my wetsuit with me. However, I also felt that I needed a new one anyway, so I decided to check out this place. It's located next to Land and Water Company restaurant (which has delicious food, by the way, try them for happy hour!) and once I got inside, I was debating between rash guards and wet suits. The guy there didn't pressure me to get anything but more along the lines asked me questions that I didn't bother asking myself before deciding. In the end, I walked out of there with a rash guard shirt, a pair of sunglasses, booties for surfing and more wax for my board. I'll definitely have to come back and get a board here whenever I'm tired of my old one. read more

My family visited this shop while staying in Carlsbad and spent about an hour in store. It's a skate/surf shop located in a historic building. Lots of clothing options for men and women, not so much for kids. The service was great and there was always someone available to ask questions. I asked for some restaurant suggestions from the staff and they were all so happy to recommend (and the places they did ended up being some of the best we had while we were there!). The manager was very on top of making sure everyone got checked out quickly, great customer service on that end. HOWEVER, when I drop $250 and I can't use your restroom it's very frustrating. I understand things are unique with COVID but they referred me to everyone else who only gave restrooms to customers, as they should. I really don't understand how you can let me use a dressing room but can't let purchasing customers use the bathroom. Not impressed with that.
