I'm extremely picky when it comes to glasses, so I've been looking everywhere for the perfect pair. I walked into this little shop hoping I'd find something. They have a decent variety of all sorts of glasses (modest to some very colorful styles). Both Roger and Michelle were so helpful (and patient) in helping me pick out a pair that looked good on me...it was like having my own personal stylists! They wrote down a few pairs that I liked, and I will definitely be coming back in with my husband to make the final decision! read more

I was really impressed by Dr Woodring. His staff was really nice and he was the most thorough eye Dr I've seen. I love that they carry the glasses without rims that way about 2 grams. My order of contacts and glasses have not come yet so I'll give an update on that when they are in. read more

I am not impressed with their service. No, I didn't get further than the receptionist's desk. Without an appointment I couldn't even go into the other room to look at frames-- yes, this is their policy! (I already got a new eye prescription elsewhere.) What do they think will happen if they let unescorted people into the other room with all the frames? The receptionist didn't bat an eye when I said that I was stunned--she said she understood and was sorry. And no, they didn't have any appointments for the rest of the week, and this was Monday. When I think of how many other optometry offices with frames have I frequented in the decades that I've worn glasses and have never encountered this before, I still can't get over it. All I could do is think about the positive reviews I read and glance through the window at the frames. read more

Hello, I am yelping this office because they provided quick service with no notice. I work at an optometry office in petaluma. We had a mutual patient and I had to call them last minute for information because the patient forgot her prescription. They were able to assist me right away and I really appreciated that. The doctor is OK, the receptionist are nice. But the glasses I bought here did not work very well after three months. I bought a pair of frameless eye glasses in January 2012 for about 300 dollars here. It looks nice. After three months, the lens started to move up down and not tightly connected to the frame. I brought this pair of glasses back and the associates asked me to leave it with them for a few days to fix. When I picked it up a few days later, I saw very obvious scratches at the connection point of lens and frame. And the lenses were still not tightly connected to the frame, keeping moving to a down position in my face. Three months later, I finally gave up and picked up some contact lens to replace that junk and threw them to as garbage. I bought a pair of glasses from Costco four years ago for about 150, and I am still using it. When I talked to the ladies in Cost optical, they told me these frameless glasses are not very good, so Costco even does not carry it. So the bottom line is that the frameless glasses here suck. When I had questions and talked to the gentlemen there today, he was very rude and the call were interrupted for at least 4 times. read more

I first went to an optical shop across the street, but the owner was in a rush to get out of his store because the weather had been unseasonably hot that day. So I walked over to Solano EyeCare, where their A/C was pleasantly cool, and received a warm greeting. I asked if they could help fix my sunglasses by replacing a screw that had fallen off. Roger was attentive and friendly, disappeared for a short while, then came back with my sunglasses fixed, and shined up. He did this for free, and with a smile. The man deserves a raise! I have been using these lovely people for years. From scratched corneas to annual exams they have keep close track of the health of my eyes. Today, Roger was able to expertly align my mangled frames which had been stepped on. So nice to have such great optometrists in the neighborhood. read more

This office has corrected problems of the past and now is one of the top shops in the east bay. Dr. Chen is wonderful, the staff are friendly, and their frames are the best quality available. They stand behind their work and are always available for a quick adjustment. If you are looking for Makita or other hard to find brands try Solano Optical. read more

The service is wonderful here! The receptionist is always willing to work with my schedule and the opticians are friendly and very helpful. I brought my son's glasses in to be repaired and they were finished earlier than expected. I just wish they had more selection, but besides that you can't beat the service here. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Woodring and now Dr. Chen for over 20 years. My service now is every bit if not better, than when I started. I really appreciate their consistent professionalism and their thorough care. I was given a notice that my contacts arrived and I'd need to make an appointment. I was in the area so I just stopped in. Nicole at the front area asked me to wait and she would see if she could get me in. I was continually updated and as soon as Dr. Chen was finished with her patient, they squeezed me in. I was interrupting their normal schedule, and it was not ever conveyed as such. Decided to try Solano eye care out as we moved to Berkeley, and driving to my all time favorite in the city was a bit much. Bottom line: Dr. Chen is great, Roger is friendly and you get fantastic customer service with him. If you can tolerate a couple of young women behind the front desk and their absolutely terrible customer service, then this is the place for you. I have been lectured both times I have dealt with the receptionists and that was it for me. They take away from what would be exceptional customer service and an otherwise pleasant group of people. News flash: my running out of trial contacts before I schedule a follow up is not the end of the world. It blows my mind that they think it's ok to be condescending to their clients. Solano eye care is hence, not my cup of tea. Moving on. read more

This is my favorite annual appointment. Every time I see Dr. Woodring I learn something new (he teaches Optometry at UC Berkeley.) I like how the staff really do seem to have your best interests at heart (from reception to the retail section) but are not pushovers. I've witnessed some pretty rude clients and they've handled them gracefully. Appointments and parking can be hard to get - if you're finding the wait too long, take a look at their eyeglasses selection (bonus: they really DO know how to pick glasses for your face shape.) read more

I've been a patient here for nine years and just had an experience that convinced me it was time to move on. I had a situation regarding my glasses and insurance that a little bit of caring and effort could have resolved, but they were so intent on quoting me a price, and not caring about my situation that they didn't help me find any of the possible solutions I needed. After I found the solution and brought it to them they were quite unwilling to acknowledge that they could have cared more and tried harder. The people here were friendly, and my glasses did come in within the estimated 10 day- 2 week period, but there was a problem with the frames when they came back with lenses in them. I had bought the frames elsewhere, so it's possible that the original problem had already happened, but when, upon leaving this store, I looked more closely, I noticed that the frames around the left and right lens were noticeably asymmetrical relative to each other. But when I came back into the store to point this out, their rep. (or someone who looked very, very, very much like him) denied that he could see the difference. I don't blame the store for the initial problem, but this man's denial did not inspire confidence. I would not go here again. There may be some small town dynamics here; hopefully this isn't indicative of the service everyone gets. read more

Dr. Chen was extremely professional and thorough. I had a lot of concerns with my contacts and she listened carefully and addressed each one individually. They handled my insurance concerns wonderfully as well. The office has a pleasant atmosphere and they play decent, unobtrusive jazz music at a tastefully low volume instead of that usual soft rock drivel. I have seen many optometrists, and not one gave me such wonderfully corrected vision as Dr Woodring. I am an artist, and where other optometrists told me to learn to live with the blurriness, Dr Woodring was able to correct my vision to 20/15. Incredible! Wow. This is probably the *best* customer service I have ever experienced from any business...ever. Son breaks my only pair of glasses around 3PM on Saturday. I call over to Solano EC, where I have never been before, and they fit me in for an appointment in an hour. After the most thorough and professionally conducted eye exam I have ever had (in 20 years!) and great assistance from Jennifer on the staff in selecting frames and working w/my insurance, I decided that what I really wanted was to switch to contacts. By now it's 4:15, but they fit me in to do a contact lens fitting right there, with a follow up in a week to make sure they're the correct fit -- and I walk out with perfectly corrected vision and a new set of contact lenses. Time from frames breaking to complete resolution of the problem: 2 hours. Honestly, I hardly ever post on yelp, but I have to comment on a place that really went the extra mile to save the day for me. read more

i've been going to Solano Eye Care for about 10 years. i've tried another spot in the past year because SEC didn't cover my health care provider's eye glass coverage. i will never try anywhere else again. SEC is the only place that has fitted me perfectly - the level of my graduated bifocals is perfect - something no other eye center has ever done. Woodring and Roger are perfect. Roger's sense of style and what looks good is on me is right on. you won't be sorry - their selection is great and their service is excellent. read more
