Only on Fourth Street will you find hippies with money who think they are better than you...no matter who you are because you know they are crunchy still and drive an EV. I will never shop here again. I'd much rather deal with the folks of San Ramon or Marin, the Peninsula for crying out loud,shoot even dog eat dog San Jose; just not this location! Let's be honest here, Warby Parker isn't meant for the simple, "I'm using my vision insurance for glasses kind of purchase." Instead, it's a moderate to expensive store for fashionable glasses and it's meant to serve the markets they populate, I'm no fool. However, I do love fashion and didn't mind the à la carte style here, so we bought two pairs of glasses from Fourth Street's Warby Parker. When I found the glasses originally, I was in San Ramon and I was helped by a wonderful salesperson whose name I unfortunately forgot. Once I had my prescription I went to the Berkeley store, out of convenience; big mistake! Especially, since the first salesperson in Berkeley confused me and apparently herself with my prescription, (progressive), and I ultimately ended up with single vision lenses, Instead of progressive. Something I was told only when I returned to a second salesperson in Berkeley Let me tell you about this second salesperson though, cause they were quite rude and judgmental. In fact they seemed to assume I made my purchasing decisions based on cost. No, no, I made my decisions based on confusion! In fact even after a second salesperson and two opticians I am still unhappy and will make sure I go back to corporate with these comments to make sure I get EXACTLY what I need and want. The first optician was nice, but super fast and didn't say much; so I was again a bit confused. The second optician was more verbal but just as rude as the second salesperson. I decided to try an eye exam and to update my contact and glasses prescription here for the first time. I have purchased glasses from here before and have always liked the selection of frames. They have lasted about a year and so, which shows good quality! The eye exam was quick and easy to book. There were plenty of appointment times available, but it is best to book ahead. I came into Warby Parker feeling genuinely shaken after a very upsetting experience at another eyewear chain on Shattuck Avenue. From the moment I walked in, the difference in care and professionalism was clear. Mira really listened and handled my high prescription with confidence and transparency. She took careful measurements, explained my options clearly, and helped me find frames that actually worked for my face and prescription -- no pressure and no rushing. When I came back for adjustments, James and Karen were incredibly attentive. Karen's final adjustments made the glasses perfectly balanced and comfortable. The difference thoughtful adjustments make is huge. Not only all of this the glasses look great and I have been getting complements not an easy feat considering my high prescription. I'm able to feel like me in the eye wear that means a lot to me. Great job dispensing! My glasses were ready quickly, fit beautifully, and most importantly, I can see clearly again without distortion or discomfort. I left feeling calm, confident, and relieved. Sadly I have to update my review a bit because I still don't have my glasses! I placed my order on Aug 3 and it is now Aug 27 and I still don't have them. I was told they'd be in hand within 10 business days and I never received a single update via email, text, or call, to explain or notify me of the delay. I think there is a pretty big customer service issue between placing the order and picking up the glasses. I even called last week and spoke to a human to have the glasses shipped to my home instead of the store, and she assured me the address would be updated. But it looks like they are being sent to the store and when they will arrive.... who knows. :( read more

I needed to get a pair of prescription sunglasses and glasses and knew Warby Parker or Jin's would be a good place. Sadly, Jin's in sf has closed down (probably around covid?) so I found this place in Berkeley instead. It's centrally located in the cute Berkeley shopping area with restaurants, clothing and small mom and pop stores. I walked in and tried all the glasses possible. There were quite a few people in there getting fitted so I just went around the store until I found the pairs that I wanted. When you buy two, you get an extra discount as well. I saved $51 and left happy. I don't remember the person's name that helped me but she was efficient and fitted me before shipping my order. It took about two weeks for the glasses to come in and they were packaged in the case and a box to prevent damages. With two glasses, the total came out to $289 and I used my FSA to get reimbursed for it. The store was clean when I went, it seems pretty small at first but they had so many selections and around 5 people helping at the same time so I didn't feel like I needed to wait that long. I've been getting eye glasses here since they opened several years ago. I find the frames to be stylish and comfortable as well as reasonably priced. My local optometry stores in my neighborhood offer designer name frames at the same price as I can get similar looking frames AND lenses at WP. I've experienced a couple of hiccups in ordering over the years but by and large it's an easy process with friendly knowledgeable staff. read more

Came in for a glasses adjustment again, it's been 3 times in a couple months the screw keeps falling out and difficult to tighten with general tools. Still sitting here 30 minutes later as they will help walk-ins prior to the ones on the waiting list. Not sure how that works. I went to this location on a Friday about 4:00pm. Parked on the street at a meter and went inside where there were several customers working with staff. I was immediately greeted by Mara and I assumed she was going to just add me to a list. But no! She walked me through all of my options and we were quickly able to pin point the glasses that worked best. She was amazing: friendly, extremely knowledgeable and efficient. I didn't purchase the glasses (they were close to $400) and needed to check how much is covered by insurance. She wrote everything down for me and I was in and out in less than 30min. We recently found out that our two-year old daughter needs glasses, so we decided to visit Warby Parker on 4th Street in Berkeley to let her pick out her own frames. We were pleasantly surprised by how patient and friendly the staff was with out energetic toddler. They engaged with her in a warm and welcoming way, making her feel special, which made the whole experience enjoyable for her and for us! When our daughter became a little antsy, the staff went above and beyond by providing her with pens, colored pencils and paper to draw on. She was also given the option to pick out stickers which she loved! Choosing glasses for a toddler could have been a stressful experience, at at Warby Parker it was actually a lot of fun. Our daughter had a great time in the store and we couldn't be more grateful for the excellent customer service and their thoughtful approach to dealing with a two year old. We will definitely go back to Warby Parker for our future eye ware needs and highly recommend Warby Parker, especially to parents with young children who need glasses. We were grateful that what could have been a stressful experience turned out to me easy and enjoyable. read more

The staff were courteous enough, but I'm quite unsatisfied with the outcomes of their policies. They had to reschedule my appointment with me, which happens. It is not easy for me to get away from work, and that initial time slot was worked into my schedule weeks in advance. On the day of the rescheduled appointment I rush out of work and with about 20 minutes lead time on the appointment start, when it becomes apparent that I will be late, I call the location and let them know that I will be 10 minutes late. When I arrive I am unable to have my appointment. I won't be giving my business to Warby Parker again. read more

She was cordial and efficient with prescribing my optical need. Another young woman took time to get me the frames that fit my taste, even brought out the winning frames from the back, in a different color. He was cycling through, multi-tasking with a half-dozen customers in a very polite fashion and still didn't take him very long to fix these even though the metal hinge was wildly out of sorts. My "perfect eyes" tested me when I drove to Tahoe at 5am and couldn't see a darn thing. My Spidey senses knew this might be an issue so luckily I packed my glasses from 10+ years ago. After this drive, I knew it was time to update my old frames to something new and more "me". I was always hesitant about wearing glasses. #1 I never thought it looked good on me. #2 I didn't know which frame fits my face. #3 I thought I was fine without them. But when you're driving and the signs are a tad blurry and you're sober, you know its a problem. Warby Parker was my go to and the only option I wouldn't to check out. They have a variety of glasses varying in different colors, styles, and shapes. And most importantly, they're inexpensive. I tried a few on and was pleasantly surprised how it looked on me. The staff at this location was great! It's been over 8 years since my last exam and I don't know if it's the technology that has evolved so much since then or if WP is particularly up to date compared to other optometrists, but I was astounded and stoked about the difference! The doctor took the time to walk me through the images of my retina and explained what she saw to me. I love it when medical professionals take that extra step. The people that helped me with the pre-exam steps and the sales associate were both kind, responsive, efficient. We all know Warby Parker offers an awesome, relatively affordable variety of glasses. But what stands out the most is the exceptional customer service. I've been here many times, and every employee here -- from greeter to optician -- has been friendly, professional, and helpful. They've helped me pick glasses, handle returns, and adjust fits. Whenever I'm there to get new glasses, I actually really appreciate how gracious they are about tightening up my older WP pair and making sure they still fit me well. This sort of touch goes a long way and keeps me loyal as a customer. And of course -- the wide variety of beautiful frames! There's seriously a frame for everyone, no matter the style. Conservative or eclectic. Old-fashioned or modern. Sophisticated or funky. Your biggest problem will be narrowing down your options. It's convenient too in many ways. If there's a long wait for you to see someone, you can leave the store and they'll text you when someone's available. You can pick up your glasses at the store, or they can ship it to you. I had one of the most disappointing experiences at this clinic. Last week, my son had an eye exam and was given a 4 pair of trial contact lenses. We were told his full order would take time because he has astigmatism, which was completely understandable! But today was unacceptable. My son ran out of his trial lenses, so I came in just to get two or three more to hold him over until the order arrives. They made me wait 1 hour and 15 minutes, only to finally tell me they were "out of stock." If they were out of stock, why wasn't I told that immediately? Why let a parent sit there for over an hour, only to give an answer that could have been shared within minutes? This isn't the first time their communication has been this poor. What makes it worse is that they acted like they had no way to help -- no backup trials, no alternatives, no urgency, nothing. A clinic that regularly deals with kids and medical needs should show more responsibility, respect, and basic courtesy. At the very least, they should value a patient's time. I left extremely frustrated and disappointed. This level of service is truly unacceptable, and I will not be returning. read more

Need an eye exam or glasses? I highly recommend Warby Parker. I have Kaiser, my insurance does not cover vision, which I think is ridiculous. I think the exam at Kaiser would have been about $220 or something like that. I went to Warby Parker in Berkeley, the exam was $85. Everyone one that I talked to that worked there was friendly and helpful. I ordered glasses that were mailed to me and they arrived within a week. If you dont need an exam but need glasses you can go into their store or order online. They will even send you up to 5 frames to try on at home, you then return the samples and there is no charge. You can also try frames on virtually. And when you buy a pair of frames they donate a pair. read more

Damn. As a long standing Warby Parker eyeglass wearer I hate giving such a negative review. But this isn't so much for the product itself but moreso the location. It took three very terrible experiences for me to actually take the time to come on here and cry about it but this location really needs to do better. I've attempted to come in three times to get my eyeglasses adjusted AFTER work hours so between 6-8 pm. The first time I showed up at 7 pm and they had sent the optician home an hour early because it's "often slow". The second time I called customer service to ensure someone was there before I made the trek and they could not connect someone to this actual store so they said they would get the optician schedule emailed to me so I could ensure someone would be available however, no email was received. Showed up tonight at 7:10 pm as Google showed the hours until 8 pm to which I was met with a "we closed at 7 pm tonight and the 8 pm closing hours begin tomorrow". I asked if the optician could just adjust the pair I was wearing really quick to which he responded no. All this to say, if I can't rely on a brick and mortar store to help service the frames I order, why am I paying the added cost? I've bought similar frames for MUCH less but continued to pay the premium for the added benefit of fitting and adjustments. At this point I'm convinced I'd get better service at LensCrafters or maybe even Costco optical. Insanely disappointed. read more

Remind me to never buy glasses at Warby Parker again. You buy them and when you come into get the adjusted so they don't fall off your face it takes FOREVER to get them adjusted. Every time I come in it's been a 25 + minute wait to get the glasses I bought adjusted for a 2 minute process -- what a huge waste of time. Better off buying local. Since the year is ending eyeglass places seem to be pretty busy with everyone trying to use up their benefits in time. I looked up online to see if they were open or if I needed to schedule an appointment. I called and the general line said they were open so I came on a Sunday afternoon and parked closer towards University under the overpass away from all of the foot traffic. There was a socially distant line to check in where they take your info and allow you to go shop around the area before they're ready for you. There's a sanitizing station upon entry. The host was also very friendly and I loved looking at all of the workers eyeglasses. So I gave my info and had about 30-45 minutes before I had to return to check out glasses. Once you get the text and return they're all ready for you and you get briefed by an employee. They give you a tray to try on any of the glasses which are organized very well from size and I think material and if you looked online for frames (like I did) too could just ask them and they could take it out for you. I had a whole list I chose online but of course it's so much more different than when you try it on. So you can touch and try on as many as you'd like in the store with your mask and then I just created an east discard pile for the ones I for sure didn't want. Then you can take about 5-6 pairs outside with a handheld mirror so you can take your mask off and see how they look with them. I'd like to give a shout out and an A+ to the person that helped me, I didn't catch his name and the recommendations of the optician since I have a very high prescription. They were not pushy at all like other optical shops I've been at and they made honest recommendations. I couldn't make up my mind so I chose 2 sets of glasses and they ensured that if it didn't feel right or anything I can come back within the first 30 days. The transaction was really easy and pretty contactless. Now I'm just waiting for my eyeglasses to arrive within 10 business days at home. read more

Have any of you been burned out from eyeglass stores like LensCrafters which charge too much for eyeglasses? As someone who used to go to LensCrafters per a previous company's vision coverage, I found Warby Parker to be a breeze by comparison. Not only are they significantly better than LensCrafters, they also know how to serve customers better. -The eye exam is cheap, even if your vision coverage doesn't cover it. -Eyeglass frames are affordable, even if your vision coverage doesn't cover it. You pay for the frames, that's it. That's the cost of your glasses unless you want addition options for your glasses. -Eye exam was quick and straight forward. -Customer service is super friendly and willing to help with any questions you have. -Warby Parker ships to your home with your eyeglasses in reasonable amount of time. In the past I got mine from eyeglass stores in a week. Warby Parker got me mine in a day less than how I'd normally get it. And if that's not enough, my eyeglasses came in perfect condition along with a great, secure case. Warby Parker really knows how to deliver with eyeglasses. I plan on sticking with them. Great glasses and more importantly, amazing customer service! I already have sunglasses from WP; my partner wanted to use his insurance benefits (out of network) on some new glasses. He tried on a few (they allow you to take them up front outside so that you can try them on maskless), selected his favorite, and checked out very seamlessly. Now I want glasses!! Customer service was great - they were well-staffed and attentive. We also mixed up the credit card payment and they easily cancelled and redid the order. Lastly they also fixed my partner's old (non WP) glasses so that they're no longer crooked. The service was truly top notch!! Parking may be tough on the weekends so expect to circle around a bit! read more

He explained in detail how to order glasses and the options they offer. He was very knowledgeable and patient. Warby Parker is by far one of my favourite brands. As someone who has bad eyesight with a constantly changing prescription, Warby Parker is a lifesaver to ensure I don't spend all of my disposable income trying to buy fashionable glasses. Definitely glad there is a physical store here. As much as their home try-on is nice, if you have a face that is not average, it is challenging to find a pair that both fits well and looks good. For this, the physical location helps a lot to try on a dozen frames. Friendly staff. With COVID it can get a little busy and I ended up having to wait outside for a bit, but the wait is almost always less time than they say it is. This location is part of the shiny 4th Street shopping district and you could spend all your money on SoulCycle, pressed juices, glasses, Lululemon clothes, Apple computers, and a bunch of other millennial things here if you wanted. read more

Disappointed with my most recent visit. Purchased new frames for a new prescription. Asked to put new prescription in a Warby Parker frame that was less than 2 years old. They told me they could not replace lens due to COVID? I don't understand this at all. This seems very suspicious, a ploy to sell more frames? Having worn glasses for many years, I've come to realize a few important points. Of course, the correct optical script and lenses are essential, but if they don't fit right, it's trouble. Even with the many styles WP offer, I find that after a few weeks my frames need an adjustment. I've been pleased with with the opticians here and there desire to help you get the right fit. My second set of glasses from WP. First time did it all on line. This time, since this brand new location is close by, we used it as an excuse to head to fourth St in Bizerkely. Obviously clean modern and plenty of help all around. Looks a lot like the Mac store in style and approach. Less crowded than store in Hayes valley. Picked up some sweet sunnys with the help from Xavier, all told it took maybe 15 minutes. Why so quick??? Because I down loaded the WP app on my IPhone and browsed in the comfort of nearby Peet's coffee. Once I settled on a few looks it was just a matter of getting thumbs up or down once they were propped on my pie hole from Bae and we were off to the next stop... Brunch! read more
