The fact that there is a parking garage was a huge plus for me. The fee to park here is $3/day within the hours of 4am-3pm. Any time outside of those hours is free. Payment can be done through the BART app, where you will need to link your Clipper Card number and license plate number. This is to ensure that you actually entered BART and aren't abusing the parking spaces reserved for BART riders. When paying for your spot, you input the number you parked in (located on the ground of your parking space), add your payment info, and you're good to go! It should be a pretty smooth and speedy process. I parked on the far end of the parking garage, so walking to and from the BART entrance was a bit far, but it was definitely doable. Like all BART stations, this location is equipped with kiosks to add value to your Clipper Card. There are escalators that take you to the upper level which is where you enter the train car. The train car had a frequency of 15 minutes during the time we were there, so it came pretty fast. Once we got in we were on our way!

It's a family atmosphere and nice people. You can park on the streets or in the parking building for free. During this visit, I decided to check-out their Thursday's Music and Market event from 6:30pm-8:00pm. I was amazed how many families and dogs (on leash) having a fun time. It was a like a big picnic for the community. It had an electric vibe. The live music was great. There were food tents lined up with different cuisines and other vendors. I decided to stop by the Asian Snow Ice tent and ordered their Mango icee. It was refreshing. I will be back.

Two lanes of guest traffic flow into the garage and you take a ticket as you enter. The first time I pulled in, the ticketing machine on one guest side wasn't working and it took a few minutes for the car behind me to figure out that I had my reverse lights on for a reason. They gave me room to back out, then pulled up themselves to the broken machine instead of following me to the other side. Ha! Parking rates are really reasonable - $1/hr, and you can pay quickly with your credit card as you exit. Don't lose your ticket. (And perhaps you can ask for validation, depending on where you are going?) Guest parking has a lot of "compact spots" and our Altima is more of a mid-size car, but fits in the little spots pretty nicely as long as the surrounding cars aren't on the line (which they always seem to be). It's a convenient garage for visiting friends in the Bank of America corporate building, and a short walk to Todos Santos Plaza. The garage itself is really pretty on the outside with green vines decorating one side of the building. The stairs are clean and there are also elevators to move between floors. The doors are automatic so push the big button to walk out of the garage - but do NOT push on the doors themselves. (There are signs to remind you of the auto feature). And don't forget to pay attention to where you are when you park - it's a big garage with many levels.

Downtown Pleasant Hill has lots of entertaining options - alas, parking is not one of them. At…read morepeak times, street parking can be nonexistent, and strict time limits await those that try to sneak in from the large retail store lots nearby. This leaves downtown Pleasant Hill's "across from the movie theater" parking garage as the #1 choice. Literally located across from the Century Theater on Crescent Drive, this parking garage is free, with some untimed spaces, and other spaces featuring decent time limits (enough to see a movie). Entrances are both on Crescent Drive and Contra Costa Blvd. The downside: this may be your #1 parking choice, but it's also the #1 choice for most other Pleasant Hill visitors and virtually the only choice for movie theater patrons. So at peak times you may have no better luck finding a space here than on the street. A prayer to the Parking Gods is always in order before a downtown Pleasant Hill visit.

That's a bit unfair, frankly. The Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre BART station benefits mostly from its easily accessible location and the fact that it sits squarely between the Dub Creek and Concord, making it just a bit closer to a lot of restaurants, shops, and residences. Overall, it's just another train station, but it does offer a lot more options to folks nearby.

The lanes are tight, and every turn felt like I was one move away from scratching another car. The "compact" parking spots are really compact -- to the point where a lot of them aren't even usable. As we drove up to the fourth floor, we saw several spots that were partially blocked just because the stalls are too narrow, not because people parked badly. That said, I'm still thankful this garage exists, especially in downtown Walnut Creek where parking can be a mess. The free first hour is also a nice perk. Overall, it does the job, but it's definitely not my favorite place to park.
