Warning: This company does not stand behind their warranty. One of the reasons that we decided to go with Solar Source was their 10 year warranty that was promised with their system. $25,000 is a big investment and we knew that we didn't want to have to shell out more money if one of the pieces of equipment failed, as I had heard was a problem from other solar customers. We've had our solar system for about 6 years now and have been generally happy up until a few months ago when, of course, one of the pieces of electronic equipment failed. We contacted Solar Source and they sent out a technician who checked our Envoy computer and deemed it defective. He then explained that this particular unit has been problematic and that the component was only warrantied by the manufacturer for 5 years. In the end, Solar Source required us to spend an additional $650 on the new equipment and an additional $250 to install. When the new component arrived at our house I called them to schedule the installation and was told that they would call me back to schedule. They never called me back. I ended up installing it myself, which consisted of screwing in four wires and calling the manufacturer to get it activated so at least didn't need to pay them for the installation. All in all not a great experience with a company that I initially chose because of their warranty. read more

We started our solar journey using SCE's service to match us with contractor--everything was going okay until they called and said we needed to move our electrical panel and do other work that added 50% to the cost of our project. They then threatened to sue us for not going forward with project. A friend referred Jarrod and Solar Source. Thank goodness! He came out went through our needs, including adding A/C after completion of the project. He presented our plan and we were under way. Because we live in Long Beach we were stalled for a looooonnnngggg time with their archaic permitting process, but Jarrod stayed in touch letting us know what was going on. Once he got the permit we worked out the schedule and Solar Source stuck to it. The workers were clean, polite and answered and and all questions. By clean, I mean everyday after they were finished everything picked up, swept up, and like new. We are thrilled with our solar, after one year of being in service, we know that Jarrod calculated the right number of panels we would need to run new HVAC system using electricity, so much so that after a year SCE owes us a couple hundred dollars. I sold my business to retire and had a big tax gain and needed a tax deduction so I decided to install panels for the tax credit. The job had to be finished before year end because I didn't need any tax credits the next year. I selected a large, highly rated solar company in my area to do the job. Solar Source was a little cheaper and seemed OK, so they were my second choice. But the big company, despite all their sophistication and fancy estimating technology was very slow in getting back to me about what was and wasn't required in terms of permits, was trenching necessary or not, etc. They kept dropping the ball. There were so many people to deal with and it seemed like they didn't communicate with each other. Jarrod, the owner of Solar Source, however, was very experienced with all aspects of solar. He told me he started out as an installer and worked his way up doing it all. Jarrod was able to answer all my very detailed technical questions right off the bat. Time was running out and the big company kept dropping the ball so I finally decided I couldn't trust them to get it done in time and went with Solar Source. I was still stuck on the idea that they were second best, but as it turned out, the big company was wrong on a key part of the process, telling me I wouldn't be able to get permits for installing panels on my detached garage. Revised on 7-20-16: I will continues to update all correspondence so it is visible to all who read my experience I have been called repeatedly by a number that claims to be associated with this company. That number is 415-520-7631. Ironically, when I have tried to call this person back it is a number that can't be reached at this time. Each time I speak to them I politely ask to be removed from the list, with no avail. I did confirm with this person that they were associated with solarsourcepower.com. When I asked for the address of this company, he said he would give it to me after I answered more of his questions. His questions were really his continuation of trying to sell me his services (don't really care if there are out of pocket costs or not). I expressed to him that I have asked multiple times to be removed from his list, yet he still continued on with his pitch. He did notify me that the call was being recorded so hopefully it will be reviewed. The fear of the unknown kept me from getting solar for a long time. I finally made the jump after seeing a good friend of mine had solar on his house. My representative, Mike, was great. He was very hands-on with everything and walked me through the process step by step. Being an LADWP customer, there were a few more hoops to jump through, but we did it and got the switch turned to Solar. I am now 2 bills in with my solar panels and I have paid the forced minimum charge of $22 per bill for my 1st 2 bills. I'm looking forward to my next $22 electrical bill. If the cost of the unit is scaring you (I purchased my panels), ask Mike to help put you in the hands of a great solar financing company for your purchase. I recommend purchasing the unit (when you purchase the panels, you are putting equity in the house). If you lease the panels, you're putting money into their pockets instead of your equity. Act quickly because there are rumors of the solar rebate being non-existent after 2016 taxes. If you are contemplating getting solar, do not wait. Going solar can be a nerve recking experience. Brian was awesome he was never pushy nor trying to push you into making a purchase. He was patient and explained every process and took the time to answer all the questions I had. The installation team was great also. They explained the process and took the time to listen to our needs. In addition they took there time and ensuring all was done right. They also allowed my to give them some guidance as i really wanted very little conduit showing especially the front of the house. I will break down this review into two sections. First I will talk about how I chose Solar Source and then I will talk about the process of installation and the service that was provided. I was initially referred by coworkers about Solar Source. Before I took their advice, I wanted to do more research on my own before going with them. I got proposals from both Solar City (now Tesla) and Sunrun (through Costco). Both are good companies but I decided to go with Solar Source. Solar city seemed like it was good but I didn't like that they limited you to 90% of your annual power usage. I also didn't like that the person I spoke to was in Nevada and not a local rep. Sunrun did allow us to go up to 110% of our usage but they were much pricier and the perks that they offered did not appeal to me. After speaking with Solar City and Sunrun, I called up solar source and spoke with Bryan. He was the most responsive and helpful among the 3 companies. I remember Solar City took almost 2-3 days before they called me back to answer my questions, definitely not a good sign when they are trying to earn your business. Solar source actually specified the type of panels and inverters they used while Solar City didn't mention it at all. I had to dig a little more to find out the types of panels and inverters that Solar City and Sunrun used. As it turns out, solar source had superior panels and inverters. They are really trying to provide you the best solar equipment out there in the market. So I chose Solar Source because they had the best customer service, price and product. After I signed a contract with Solar Source, Bryan was still very helpful and responsive throughout the process. He made sure all my questions and concerns were addressed in a timely manner. Bryan also came out to our home to explain the entire process and was nice enough to work around our schedule. We were always in constant communication by phone, text and email. Once we signed an agreement, our panels came really quick and the work started very soon after Solar Source had received them. I had requested Bryan to get it done before the end of the year so that I can get the tax credit for 2016. As the installation was going on, Bryan made sure that the installation was done properly. He was very proactive in notifying us about locations of the panels, and how the wiring was going to be done. There was constant communication with between Bryan and I during the entire installation process. After the installation was done, it was pretty quick before we started receiving power from the panels and eventually permitted by SCE to operate. This process happened without us having to do any paper work. Our electric bills are now less than $5 a month. I have just completed an installation of 64 solar panels which was done turn key by Solar Source. I discovered this company from a friend who is a well known local architect well respected in our community. He had completed a similar installation and recommended them highly. My experience was no different than his. Everything about this project was handled professionally from the salesperson to the finance department to the actual installers. Bryan Amburgey, our salesperson, was knowledgeable, professional and accommodating. All of our questions were answered as he painlessly walked us through the process. The workers and electrician who did the actual installation were terrific. I am currently generating power that we are selling back to SCE. My monthly electric bill has gone from $1,000 to virtually nothing. As I am in the commercial lighting business and some of our products include solar lighting, the bar I set for this experience was high. I went with them since they gave me the best deal for my solar panels and introduced me to micro-invertor which other solar dealers here were not advertising. The workmen described their planned approach, suggested options if needed, and addressed our concerns in every way. They are very bright, and were pleasant to deal with at all times. I had Solar Source install a 16 panel system on my house last September 2015. I couldn't be happier with the system and my $3 monthly SCE bill (down from $130-160). So the $250 referral check that I got in the mail today as a result of one of my neighbors choosing them is just icing on the cake! Dealing with Mike was a no pressure experience- unlike the door to door shills that make inflated promises with no follow through. I've got nothing but good things to say about Solar Source. After taking a couple of other quotes for solar, including one from Peterson Dean, which was quite expensive, I decided to call a local provider in Long Beach, Solar Source. The Solar Source rep, Bryan came out right away and spent a good long while with me explaining the various options and the difference in having DC lines with a single converter vs having micro-invertors to convert power to AC on each panel. Bryan was also able to shop around for various panels and manufactures to give me the best options for how many panels we wanted up on our roof and how much each could generate. Solar Source was able to give me a great price on some 325 Watt panels that were comparable in price to 275 watt panels from other manufactures, which definitely gave me more watts for the buck and a couple fewer panels for a better looking array up top. Solar Source was even kind enough to install some protective barriers, which I purchased. The timeline was good and the workers knocked out the job in a very professional manner and on time. The best thing was that after changing over to net metering, I paid less than $2 for a $200 Southern California Edison bill.
